@@mannyplex yeah. I really think they mishandled the black suit/venom storyline, but if you put that aside there's still a lot to love
@cerberus19943 жыл бұрын
@@mannyplex It also probably has alot to do with the fact we all know the MCU can pull it off if anyone can. They have an amazing track record and already have most the characters and stories built up over multiple movies but ya this movie gets more hate than it should haha
@johnwalker10583 жыл бұрын
There is a LOT more build up though. Doctor Strange had his own movie before this, so we got to know who he is and his story. As for the other Spider men, the first one got a whole trilogy to build him up, the second got two movies, and the third will have his trilogy completed with this movie. The multiverse practically had around twenty movies building it up with the whole Infinity Saga of the MCU, especially culminating with the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy towards the end of that saga. Finally, the six villains each are pulled from the previous Spiderman movies that built up the previous Spider men. So there is far more background provided and context given to explain each bit of what is going on and for fans to appreciate them accordingly. It's like how someone would not have been able to appreciate Infinity War or Endgame nearly as much if they did not watch the other movies of the Infinity Saga and just jumped straight into it. They would not know the characters or understand the deeper nature behind the conflict unfolding before them or its significance. - - - TL;DR - My point is basically this: You can have a lot going on in a story and have it be good quality as long as you provide enough preparation for each aspect of what will go on later. You can have a lot of different things going on as long as you adequately build up each one properly rather than just throwing them all together last minute.

Bit of a correction: In the comics, the symbiote had nothing to do with being brought back by Jameson's son. It actually emerged from a machine in Battleworld during Secret Wars. Additionally, it never actually corrupted his personality either. The ideas of the symbiote being brought back on a space shuttle and corrupting Peter are both entirely the result of the 90s animated series. Good stuff, fun to watch along with you guys! I'm surprised no one had mentioned this, so here goes: Holden mentions the origins of the symbiote - that John Jameson brings it back from the Moon. That story, apparently, is from the nineties animated Spider-Man show. The original origin from the comics is part of the first "Secret Wars" - way too convoluted a storyline to use in any movie just introducing Venom, of course ;-)
@Des_Zee3 жыл бұрын
45:16 that scenario Holden is describing didn't happen in the comics. That was from the 90s animated Spider-Man. In the comics, peter got the symbiote during the secret wars event.

Actually that's how Venom came to be in the cartoon. In the comics, Spider-Man brought it back with him after the Secret Wars.

I like the Venom origin from the animated series when it came from the shuttle, honestly. I never read the comics and and don't care to. Venom is an alien, so it makes sense that he would come from a meteor. But I could be judging the Secret Wars origin too harshly because I never saw/read it. lol
@johnnyskinwalker40953 жыл бұрын
@@pokemongamer7992 Venom is not an alien, the symbiote is. Venom is the fusion between Eddie Brock and the symbiote. Many people make the mistake calling the alien "Venom". The movie with Tom Hardy made that mistake as well.
@Elipson520083 жыл бұрын
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 really doesn't help that whenever the symbiot bonds with someone besides eddie, even though there is some variation to the name, they are still called venom.
@johnnyskinwalker40953 жыл бұрын
@@Elipson52008 yea good point. I think when it fused with Scorpion it was still Venom. In the Hardy movie the alien was literally called Venom before it merged with Eddie and the other symbiote had its own name as well "Riot". The two characters even looked the same and it's stupid cause it got that look by having been fused to Spider-Man and evolved into its more familar state. lol
@pokemongamer79923 жыл бұрын
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 Bro, no offense, but no one cares. Potato potaato. The symbiote is an alien, therefore Venom is half alien. No one ever assumed Eddy nor Peter was alien also. That's really dumb to say. Again, no offense. Don't argue with me for no reason.

seeing how Jen has "fallen in love" with all these movies, especially the mcu franchise, is honestly pretty touching (yes, might be sentimental). As someone who have watched these movies pretty much all my life, its amazing to see someone experience them for the first time..... On another note: cause Jen says in the 2 first Harry Potter movies that she wants those movies to be abit darker, I think she will absolutely love the Prisoner of Azkaban. Its my favoreite Harry Potter movie, partially to how dark atmospheric it was and how different that felt to the previous once. Cant wait to have Jen see that one.

I dream of what the movie would've been like where the villain was just Sandman and his fight to keep his daughter alive. Maybe Peter finds out about his daughter at some point in the movie and is conflicted about stopping a man who is trying to save his daughters life. Be a cool root for both the villain and superhero movie. I still adore this movie though, even with all it's flaws I still find immense enjoyment from it.

I think the Black suit story was fine, we just didn't need the resolution of being Venom in it. I think if they dedicated the final 30 minutes to Harry and Sandman then have the Bell Tower scene be the last scene it wouldve been amazing

37:10 HOLY SHIT. Jen has to read Spider's Shadow. It's a What If series (the first of many more to come) in the comics (i.e. Earth 616, so you'll see people like Mr Fantastic and Capn' America) and it basically explores what would've happened if Peter kept the symbiote on for longer, and in the original comics the Symbiote Saga unfolds pretty much the same way it's presented here (except it's origin) so you'll know where the dramatic changes are. The story does come back to a responsible Peter trying to repair the damage he's done with the Symbiote but in the end it does shake up the Spidey status quo in a very interesting way. A solid read if you're looking for one.

I love the concept that Peter could have at any moment killed Harry. I'd hope most know by now but for those that dont... Spiders IRL can lift 170 times their own body weight. If you directly convert that to Peter's weight he would be able to lift roughly 12.5 tons. However, the spider's in the exhibit we saw were gametically altered to do what spiders do but much better. They took the jumping spider and now it can jump 5x as far as normal. They took the spider that spins the biggest webs and upped its ability to create webbing. And they took the strongest spider and made it stronger. So Peter can lift much more than 170 times his own weight. In the comics one number thrown around is he can lift 100tons. This means Peter is always holding back when fighting. He could literally punch Harry's head off... no no... he could slap Harry so hard his head would spin like the exorcist. So when they are fighting in Harry's place Peter could have at any moment killed Harry. When he shoved him through the window and out onto the balcony he could have shoved Harry straight through the window, clear over the balcony rail, and likely through the wall of whatever building sits across the street from harry's place.

23:30 both the serum that green goblin and Spider-Man have is basically base on the super soldier serum that oscorp was trying to replicate in different forms. Use that in insects to see new traits, one bit Peter and he is that. The other Instead of liquid formula it’s gas base to quickly take effect but side effect is the person mind becomes twisted. Also the Bruce banner also tried to replicate the formula with infusing gamma radiation to it which in the end lead into the hulk being made. You be surprised how many super powered heroes in marvel origins is tied to steve Rogers and being injected with the formula.

I've thought about Bernard not telling Harry the truth until waaaaay later than he should have for a while, now, and this is the best explanation that I can think of: Norman's final wishes were for Harry never to find out that he was the Goblin. He tells Peter this just before he dies, so I wouldn't at all be surprised if Bernard found the same thing out through either Peter or Norman himself (Whether from a will or personal conversation). In order for Harry to understand that Spider-Man wasn't the one to kill his father, he'd have to know that he was Green Goblin. Throughout almost all of Spider-Man 2, Harry doesn't know the truth about Norman being Goblin, so Bernard would have no reason to tell him. The thing is, up until seeing all of the damage to the rooms from his fight with Peter in Spider-Man 3, Bernard still probably doesn't think that Harry knows the truth about his father. In fact, in this movie he even had amnesia! Harry pretends that he still has it all the way up until nearly the end of the movie. It's never spelled out obviously, but that's what I tell myself every time I watch Spidey 3 so it'll stop bothering me. lol

@holden--I was confused about your Venom origin until I realized you were referring to the animated series! The original comic book origin is Spider-Man got the symbiote as a costume during "Secret Wars" not knowing it was alive, then when he learned it was trying to take him over he did the same thing in the movie and used the snoics of the church bell to get it off him.
