2 things: Peter didn’t just change his motivations after saving a random kid on a bridge. He started to doubt himself during the dinner scene, when Captain Stacy started to explain his actions, and why what Peter was doing wasn’t actually protecting anyone. THEN it was the Bridge Scene. Then right after was the great shot of him staring at his mask on the ground. That whole sequence of scenes was to show his contemplation of what he was really doing. It’s called “showing-not-telling” He then went after the lizard because he felt responsible for helping Dr. Connors create the lizard, and didn’t want innocent people to get hurt. Also The Lizard didn’t fully change back to Dr. Connors multiple times. Yes, he changed back to human on occasion, but he still had the influence of his Lizard half. So him saving and protecting Peter at the end was to show that he was FULLY restored.

It does make sense that Peter focuses only on revenge after Uncle Ben got killed, after all he felt responsible plus it’s also the first thing he did in the comics, he was hellbent on killing his uncle’s killer. Personally I found it interesting that Spider-Man simply started out as a way for him to get revenge only to then realize he can use it to help people and in so having a moral obligation to do so. Neither Toby or Tom focus on the spider bite too much either, it’s something that happens and then there it is, if anything they emphasized it more in this film. Also I simply don’t understand how people hate this suit, it’s the most unique one and it’s honestly gorgeous to look at.

Things that were accurate in this movie was Peter making his webshooters, Gwen being a love intrest before MJ I believe, his humour and trash talking and his parents being super spies. Andrew's Spider-man had great early career Spider-Man take Toby's 1 and 2 had good Peter. Tom's is a good mix but also feels like a new generation. Is defiantly a great teenage Spider-Man. I feel they rushed so much of the start of Andrew's character development because it was relatively recent to Toby's and they didn't want to release a movie that had too much recycled content. They wanted to hit the ground running (or swinging). I also think thanks to Toby's series Spider-Man's character was as well known outside of comic fans as Superman and Batman at that point. So they took the gamble in rushing what they could. It's where I feel they've done better with Tom.... I understand wanting to see iconic moments but if they have been done and are still fresh in audiences memories, I feel they've got 2 choices, deliver the same thing in a different way and possibly have audiences give a review saying "You can skip the first, it's a recap" OR don't do it and assume the knowledge and reference it, something I feel they have/are doing with Tom's Using names of the actors for understanding here, actors are all great, the pitfalls of any of them mostly comes to writers and directors.

I'm actually surprised there was a backlash about Spiderman's suit in this movie. I thought this suit was the best suit out of ALL the spiderman movies. I like the darker color eye lends, I'm not sure what you would call it but the bumpy look the suit has all over looks kind of cool. I think it gives it more details rather than just looking like a smooth cheesy spandex look. So it shocks me that people hated it so much. The writers were the weak link in the Andrew Garfield movies. The cast did amazing and as much hate these movies get I think they are underrated. They have issues no doubt but I do genuinely enjoy them.

The fact that you think this is better because the classic design is cheesier is everything wrong with the appeal of this movie in my mind. This movie specifically tries to to pander to people *who don’t like Spider-Man or comic books.* It feels like Bryan Singer made this movie; it doesn’t want to be a good Spider-Man movie at all. It just wants to ride the success of The Dark Knight by making everything edgy and gritty and realistic and modern, except without any real meaning behind it. Movies-especially comic book movies-should either be escapist entertainment or about a message. The older Spider-Man movies were about messages; life lessons like responsibility, perseverance, being steady, forgiveness. This film isn’t about anything; it’s just a darker and more edgy origin story that actually-disgustingly-tries to copy some story beats from the original. Lastly, CBMs shouldn’t be afraid to have fun with themselves. As if comics aren’t chock-full of MCU humor. Just go camp; it’ll pay off. The original Spider-Man movies went camp, and it worked. This movie doesn’t even work as a big dumb action blockbuster because it’s trying way too hard; it’s taking itself way too seriously. Peter quips in like two scenes, but other than that, he’s a broody James-Dean-type character. *THIS MOVIE CHANGED ITS MAIN CHARACTER BECAUSE IT’S ASHAMED TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH HIM.* But that’s just my two cents.

They literally built an entire New York city, practically, on a sound stage. Pretty much everything you see that takes place in the city was shot on set. That sort of film making is something we don't see much in a lot of blockbusters especially something like the MCU as much as I love it.

@Grand Generic You're right in a sense that it isn't CG behind the scenes (besides Iron-Spider suit), however they definitely overlay the whole suit in CGI to cover all the wrinkles that actually make it look real. Actually, regarding the “Great Power comes Great Responsibility” line… That’s not exactly a line that Uncle Ben says. Is something that Peter says to himself after he stopped the thief that killed Ben. However, I have to point this out: When this Uncle Ben confronted Peter and talked about Responsibility and stuff, there’s actually some lines that are copy-paste from the Ultimate Spider-Man comic books. I actually read that comic and I still have it, so knowing that they gave a wink to the Ultimate comics there made me appreciate this movie better.

Andrew's depiction of Peter reminds me of Peter during the Michael J Straczynski comic run of Amazing Spider-Man. I personally like it best and feel it's overall more accurate to comic Spidey in general. Tobey's Peter feels like a dude who's never left the house. That's a little too extreme for a dorky kid imo. As far as I can see this one have a different Peter but a more acurate Spider-man. In the comicbooks Peter gained some charisma under the costume and that´s exactly what I get from this Spider-man. Tobey´s Peter in the other hand was more identical to the original source material. I love the Raimi Spider-man but in those I felt the only fuel that Peter needed was MJ and ant May and in TAS Peter looks emotionally connected to everything, his parents, his uncles, Gwen, Captain Stacy, etc. That was more appealing to me. 33:12 You can argue that his motivation wasn't to kill and get revenge for a murder rather he just wanted to catch the person who killed Uncle Ben instead of letting him roam free. In my opinion, I don't think Peter would have killed him if he managed to catch him. Edit: Also, in Raimi-verse, Peter started out by exploiting his powers to get ahead in the wrestling match at least for the fight we see and then he also "hunts" for Ben's killer and lets him die.
@Smoicast3 жыл бұрын
It did start out as revenge though. He goes around beating up random thugs to find the guy. He even says to one of them after he checks for the tattoo “This would’ve been a whole lot worse”, he was probably gonna kill that man or at least give him the beating of a lifetime before turning him in. In the Rami one yea he hunts down the guy but he doesn’t go around to every thug in New York. When he finds him yea he beats him around for a few seconds until Peter breaks his arm and he trips out the window and dies. But Peter learns his lesson that same night. He’s on the top of a building crying because yeah he may have gotten the guy and now he’s dead but Uncle Ben is still gone and nothing has changed. And after he goes home to comfort Aunt May and they talk about Ben and that’s when he takes to heart what Ben had said about great power and becomes Spider-Man. Andrews Peter doesn’t learn his lesson about what it means to have the powers he has until the bridge scene which from the montage I’m guessing maybe a week has passed since Ben died. He finally becomes Spider-Man a few days to a week later. And yes I saw the Andrew films before the Rami ones and I prefer the Rami movies. So I have no “Rami Bias”

Your viewpoint makes sense and is def valid but if bully maguire didn’t catch the killer I’m sure he would have done the same and would have gone to any and every thug he could find checking to see if it’s the right one. It gave both versions a very small character arc but it shows each way. Although, the actual reason for Andrew to hunt for the killer is to show the audience how he develops the suit and web-shooters while sticking to the story through a montage. If we got a similar version of tobey building his suit we might not have seen Andrew go around beating people up. (Hopefully that last point was clear it’s kinda weird to write it idk)
@Smoicast3 жыл бұрын
@@antoniolandos1650 no I get it but the Andrew montage we see of him making his suit and the webshooters (it’s nice and funny scene don’t get me wrong) but he’s purely making them to go out and beat up thugs to find the guy. Tobeys montage yea we see him magically have the suit he drew a few days ago but in his montage after getting the suit he’s doing good stoping criminals and saving ppl. And he’s doing it to honor what Ben wanted Peter to be. Idk I think I also just blame the fact that Amazing Spider-Man came out after the Dark Knight and then every movie after during that time had to be dark and gritty. That’s another thing too, a minor complaint, but you’re gonna take Spider-Man a character with bright red and blue colors and only make him fight at night. Peter isn't broke (he's certainly not rich but) in this movie, he does have money. It was 2012 and he was a teenager, cash or nothing. No cards, no swiping your phone.

I feel like they’re blinded to nostalgia, legit all the criticism they make can be pointed at Toby as well. Also Peter is supposed to be a nerd who is confident. Man has games.

I feel Jen enjoyed this Spiderman more than the first ones, but she doesn't want to hurt Holden's feelings. Garfield is a better Peter Parker and a better Spiderman, the suit in the first ones is better because it's a slightly more bright red and blue, and the eyes are not so dark in the Raimi trilogy. But this Spiderman showed the story why his Mom and Dad died, which gave the story more depth. Gwen and Peter had awesome chemistry (no wonder they ended up dating in real life) clearly better than Mary Jane and Peter in the first trilogy. The villain was not as good as Dr Oct or Green Goblin, that was the only criticism you can have really. But he still gave Spiderman a tough challenge. Aunt May here was more like an Aunt, instead of a Grandma like in the Raimi trilogy. Don't really get Holden's criticism of Peter starting off wanting revenge as he gets his abilities, Toby Mcguire did the same thing he went to go fight instead and wanted to beat someone half to death. Overall 8/10.

in holden defense i guess its because it lasted longer in the webb flim but it seems doggy of a arguement to make
@siriuslymeva3 жыл бұрын
@@jadenbryant9283 definitely, it can also be argued that Tobey's Peter was actually successful in his search for revenge (as he essentially caused the death of the person he thought to be his uncles murderer) while Andrew's Peter ended up ditching this thirst for revenge and didn't actually cause any permanent fatalities

I hope Holden takes a lot of what we said here and includes it in their TASM2 reaction. The main difference between Andrew's Spidey to Tobey's Spidey is that Andrew's has that quippy and witty nature side of Spider-Man that Tobey's Spider-Man lacked, even Tom's Spidey is getting wittier by the day, and to Matt's point Andrew's Spider-Man throwing jokes seems "Deadpooly" is because that's what it is supposed to be like they are 2 heroes who are exactly alike in quips but still different in nature kinda like 2 sides of the same coin, even the comics acknowledges this and they have both characters having some playful banters on the same panel. Also, I hope Holden discusses the Gwen Stacy situation in the next movie and compares it to the Gwen Stacy situation in the 3rd installment of the Raimi Spider-Man trilogy.

“That line was so Deadpool”…. Deadpool was based off of Spider-Man… Deadpool’s pitch was basically “let’s make an r rated Spider-Man with guns”…. So technically Deadpool’s lines are so Spider-Man…
