I feel this so much. my son use to tell me everything. I remember one time grudgingly listening to him talk about his favorite video game characters for two hours. Now he is 16. I ask how was school? Fine. what did you do today? Nothing. Getting him to form sentences feels like I'm interrogating a hostile witness. that keep pleading the fifth. I miss those days of endless chatter.

Let me bring some perspective. Two weeks ago, my 2 littles were the sweetest things ever. We watched Barney and The Elephant Show. I potty trained them and cried as each started Kindergarten. Literal yesterday, I picked up the 2 grandkids living with me from elementary school and dropped them off at Boys and Girls. Then, I visited a different grand at ER (she's okay), then picked up the youngest from daycare and took her home (mommy at hospital with the big sister). Talked to grand 3 of 5 after picking up her siblings from B&G. How did I go from 2 sweet little girls to 5 grandkids in 2 weeks. And, yes, they're 7 & younger and very much at the "then" stage.

You have to understand that Dads go through this as well, often in our own special way. True Story. My Mother used to make dresses for my daughters for Christmas, Easter, etc. It was my responsibility to get all of the measurements for the dresses (arm length, wrist diameter, etc.). One day I had my wife ready, with the daughters present, and her measuring tape in hand. I call my Mother on the telephone. We begin with my 12 year old daughter. The exchange goes something like this. Mom questions: Bust? Wife measures: 36. I relay information. Mom questions: Waist? Wife measures: 26. I relay information. Mom questions: Hips? Wife measures: 36. I (totally clueless and aghast) reply: When the Hell did this happen?
