My husband was convinced he was having a heart attack. We went to the ER and they rush him back to an exam room so they can save his life. He gets hooked up to all kinds of machines and there are people rushing in and out of the room. After a couple of hours of this things have calmed down and I'm waiting to talk to the doctor about next steps. The doctor comes in and says "good news you were not having a heart attack. Bad news you just spent $12,000 to pass gas." So Kim I think our husbands may be kindred spirits.

About 15 years ago, I felt a large lump on the left side of my abdomen. After a few days it went away, but then it came back. I made an appointment to see my dr, but he was booked so I saw his colleague. He couldn't feel anything. He said it could be a cyst on my left ovary. After a few weeks, I still kept feeling it and I made an appointment with my regular doctor. He examined me and told me that because I was thin, I was able to feel my stool through my colon and abdomen. He said that's why the "lump" comes and goes. I was so embarrassed. I wanted to disappear. At least it was just a Dr. visit fee, not the ER!

My husband demanded we take our 2 year old daughter to the ER (side note: he is a paramedic) because he thought she stuck something in her nose. I was so embarrassed I didn’t go because I felt there was nothing there. He came home with discharge papers stating she had a booger in her nose. 🤣

@@AnnabellaRedwood When my son was about 1.5 yrs. old, he came to me pointing up his nose and told me he stuck a pea gravel up it. Took him to the ER and the dr. said there was nothing up there. I told him, that if my son said what he did, then there is a pea gravel up it. Dr. then took x0rays and sure enough, they found a small stone up his nose and proceeded to take it out. That was a very serious situation they were going to dismiss. I on the other hand started have chest pains on a Sunday and they proceeded til Thursday. Then I went to the ER. I was in the middle of a heart attack and they rushed me into a room and started without anesthetics, so I was able to see on the screen the wire that was going up me. I have a reverse. A few years ago we were in church singing and my dad couldn't catch his breath but he thought nothing of it. On the way home we passed a hospital but he refused to go. When we got home we ate then he started watching the usual Sunday NASCAR race in his room but he said his chest hurt. Mom went and checked on him but he started getting mad because he said he was fine. She then started sending me and my sisters in. The last time my sister said that he was laying on the floor watching the race but he said he felt fine. This was towards the end of the race (4 or 5 pm). Mom convinced him to go to the hospital which he never does. They ran all the heart protocol because of chest pain. They were thinking maybe it was a bad case of heart burn but they still had to do the chest x-ray. After the x-ray they came out and asked him if he knew he only had one lung. He said as far as he knew he had two. That is when they figured out his right lung was 100% collapsed. They told him he had about 10 more minutes left before it would've killed him and that they have never seen anyone deal with the amount of pain it caused. It moved his heart 2 inches and it was starting to collapse. So it became a joke that it was a good thing the race didn't go into overtime. He smoked for several years 4 packs a day which has caused all his breathing trouble today. Which has taught me one valuable lesson on why not to smoke. He hadn't smoked in over 15 years when his lung collapsed so just goes to show the choices you make when you are young truly affect you when you get older.

Been through that. I had one fully collapsed lung and the other partially. Work sent me home and said don't come back without medical clearance. Doctors office misplaced my xrays (no, I didn't go to the hospital.. I'm a guy.. Only went to the doctor 'cause of work.) 3 days later I get a phone call sending me to the hospital. They couldn't believe I was still alive. That was 17 years ago. My wife doesn't remember me being sick. Being that we live in a civilized country, it didn't cost me a cent.

I had a ruptured appendix and my mom drove me into the ER. The admitting staff sounded skeptical I was in pain and asked if I had a history of ovarian cysts. I told them no so they begrudgingly admitted me (I think also by law they had to accept me to the ER?). Yeah, 2.5 days in the hospital post surgery because the damn thing ruptured. I slept on the discomfort for 24 hours and only went in when I stopped being able to roll over, and I even took a shower before going in >.

LMAO! However, I completely understand. So when I was around 15 I was experiencing major discomfort in my mid and lower abdomen. We lived 45 min from the pediatrician. I had been doubled over crying most the morning so we drove to the Dr.s. My mom and I explain just how bad this is. They didn't say it but I'm pretty sure they thought I was having some type of pregnancy problem. They sent my mom out of the room and tried to get me to say there was a possibility I could be PG. I wouldn't do it so they sent me across the street for an ultrasound. I get there and the pain is intensifying by the minute, and we waited for what seemed like an eternity. Finally in walks the guy to do the ultrasound and I about died when I realized it was the hottest boy in schools dad, who was also quite handsome himself. Then immediately has me pull my pants to just below my pelvic bone. Now I'm not only in horrible pain but also now I'm completely mortified. He does the ultrasound and we're like what is it? He says he isn't allowed to tell us anything he just passes it off to the pediatrician who will do the diagnosis. So we wait another hour and a half back at the pediatrician office for results. When the Dr. Came in he was chuckling. "Your going to be just fine. You have a massive air bubble stuck. " My mom not picking up what he was laying down asked what that meant and how we fix that. "He said well basically she just needs to fart. Maybe get her some alkiseltzer. " We got in the car and aren't even 5 minutes away, and I ripped the longest, loudest smelliest fart ever. You would have thought the devil lived inside me. It was instant relief though, and regardless of the smell I had never felt so thankful in my life. My mom had to stop the car and get out. To this day my mom still thinks farts are for the bathroom only. But I know better. You just got to let it go. $100 Dr Visit $400 ultra sound Chernobyl style fart PRICELESS!

Ok, here we go.... So I had a hernia surgery in 2010. It was rough, the recovery was painful, but eventually I was fine.... Until 2015, I believe. I had a double hernia surgery this time. The mesh broke from the first one and a new one popped up on the other side. Now my groin has two incredibly painful hernias, one on each side. So I get both fixed the same day. I go home, I'm in excruciating pain. I remember from the first time how bad it was, so at first I wasn't worried, just hurting really bad. I talked to the doctor every couple days, and he gave me stronger and stronger narcotic pain meds each time. It seemed to be getting worse, so I finally went to the emergency room one night. No amount of pain meds did anything for me. In fact, while I was in the room at the ER, they gave me a shot of something called Dilaudid. I've heard stories from people about how powerful this drug is. It didn't phase me in the least. I didn't feel loopy, it didn't affect my ability to think or process information- it may as well have been a shot of water! Even worse, it did nothing for my pain... So, after a bunch of other tests, they take me upstairs for an ultrasound. Then they returned me to my room. After awhile, the doctor finally comes in and says "I've got great news for you!" to which I replied "I sure hope so!" or something like that... Anyway, he said the ultrasound showed an enormous backup in my intestines or colon, or wherever it was- I just had to poop and I'd feel much better. He suggested something called magnesium citrate. It comes in a little glass bottle, $1-$2, depending where you buy it. To this day, anytime someone is having issues, I tell them to use this stuff- it's so cheap and AMAZINGLY effective! So basically, the pain meds were causing constipation. As I got stronger and stronger pills, it made the issue worse and worse. What took several days to create, and several hours (and several thousand dollars) to diagnose, took only $1.50 and 15 minutes to fix! Those narcotic pain meds are no joke!!!!! Thanks Penn, for sharing your story in such a fun way! I love how you and Kim play each other's roles in this video- hilarious!!! Lol!!! 🙂😂🤣

Had a similar issue when in hospital. I had Celluitus on my left leg, shin to ankle. Dilaudid worked pretty good for me, until I stood up. Even the dose they gave me didn't stop the pain at that point and it wore off after about 3hrs. The antibiotics should have you going like a river, but the pain meds are an effective dam. Adding pain and discomfort to the pain and discomfort you are already having is just too much; especially since it was an easy fix to ease some of the pain and discomfort. Next time I was in hospital I warned them about last time and they started a softner that day. It made a huge difference.

I was a nurse in the ER for many years and I can't tell you how often we see this. The "medical term" we have coined for this type of condition is "FOS" an acronym for Full Of Sh*t. But jokes aside it can become a very critical situation if left for a long period of time. Constipation can result in a bowel obstruction that cuts off blood flow to your intestines and needs to be rectified with emergency surgery. So don't let potential embarrassment get the better of you and make sure that you talk to your doctor if you have chronic constipation. This has been your PSA (public service announcement) for the day brought to you by a former RN who too has been diagnosed with FOS in the past.

This was a few months ago - I was pregnant with my daughter and I woke up in the middle of the night with pain in my abdomen, causing me to double over. I tried pooping, but nothing happened. Later that morning, we went to the ER. We knew it wasn't appendicitis because I had gotten my appendix out at Christmas for that 😅 anyway, it ended up being constipation. Ironically, just last week I had to again go to the ER for abdomen pains, but this time had to get my gallbladder removed! Just goes to show that sometimes it is medically necessary, sometimes its just a false alarm. You never know! 😄

With noses the doctor is going to have you to take your finger against the clear side if the nose. Then have you take a deep breath then put your mouth over your child's and blow hard. The problem will come out. Takes about 10-15 seconds.

Haha oh I've been there before! I'm a bit of a hypochondriac, too... but I've had numerous trips to the urgent care and ER for stuff like this. At this point, before any trip to the doc, i do the following. 1. Jump up and down. If you can still jump, odds are it's not your appendix 2. Drink a big glass of warm water. Not sure why, but it gets the guts moving so if it's gas, it'll pass. I've had gut problems for years, this is an absolute winner for most gut pain. 3. Drink some apple juice. We used to use that trick with one of our kids who used to have a hard time pooping. Apple juice gets things moving. But ultimately i agree with Kim and i would have been laughing, too 😄

23 years ago, when my oldest son was 4 months old. I was back at work full time but still exclusively nursing so lots of pumping during the day. Apparently I wasn’t drinking enough water. My belly started hurting mid day. By 8 that night I was in so much pain I couldn’t stand up. My ex husband called his mother to come sit with the baby and rushed me to the hospital...where I worked by the way...4 hours and several thousand dollars later I was diagnosed with constipation. The doc showed us the X-ray. Gave me a pain shot and some pills and sent me home. We get in the house and my former mother in law, all concerned, asks what was wrong and my ex husband says calmly, “nothing, she’s full of sh*t”. Spent the rest of the night and the whole next day in the bathroom. Learned my lesson and have never been constipated since...

So...this video was replaying in my mind yesterday, when I was on a business trip with severe abdominal pain... Except in my case my wife was texting me from the other side of the country to go to an ER... When I finally ended up at an ER (work health clinic told me to go get an enema an see them the next day, an urgent care doc said...we need see what is going on, and we don’t have imagery here). Had a CT scan that shows a 6-7mm kidney stone!

The same exact thing happened to me this afternoon. Thought I had appendicitis. After a urine test , blood test and CT scan. Turns out I’m constipated and had stomach cramps. I’m a nursing student. I told the nurse in the ER this was not exactly how I wanted to learn how to place an IV. We both got a pretty good laugh at the end of it all when we learned we both had the same lab instructor.

One time I went snowboarding and my boots were too small, but my feet were also very cold. That night my toes went purple and just stung for like 2 hours. We went to the er, and they were like “ yeah this is just very minor frostbite. Take some Advil your fine” then I ended up losing my toenails! Another time I swallowed a hard candy in a weird way and I thought I was choking and my parents called 911. 5 minutes later a cop showed up and told me to drink some water, i was fine, ten minutes later the ambulance made it and I was sitting there content and perfectly fine.

I didn't realize how painful constipation could be until I was pregnant with my son and my abdomen hurt so bad I would be stuck in bed some days. I had to take Metamucil and eat a Fiber One bar (the one with like 45% of daily fiber intake) every single day while I was pregnant to relieve the pain and poop.

It's called a "spastic colon:" (should be a song in there) essentially the large intestine stops working when you find yourself under stress; i.e., you are doing it to yourself; knowing that is half the battle. It causes excruciating, doubling-up pain and took two years before mine was properly diagnosed.

I went to the hospital this summer. I had kidney stones before and was always able to pass them on my own. I went to the hospital to get a scan to see if there were others so I could be prepared. Thankfully there weren't others and I passed that one on my own. A few weeks later I had a 102.1 temp for 2 days. I was literally cooking! Then it went away. I was in some discomfort around my lower abdomen, but nothing bad. I called the hospital since that fever seemed strange. I went back to the same hospital. They did a scan and found out I needed an emergency appendectomy. I really wasn't in any pain. I thought of this video and said "well, at least it's not a $10,000 poop!" :)

I can attest that kidney stores are merciless and excrutiating---especially when you have two just-broken ribs at the same time. Heavy duty narcotics (the injectable ones, but only after I was admitted) were my best friend for a couple days. Ribs still hurt, almost a year later, though not nearly as badly. Stay safe and stay sane, my friends.

I heard the same thing at an ER last November. Told to go home and take stool softeners, nothing wrong with me - 7 hours in the ER, many tests (CT, x-ray, Ultrasound, blood....etc, etc, etc....EXPENSIVE) Made an appointment with another doctor, colon cancer..... $100,000 later and I am still not laughing. I hear your video and I know the embarrassment. I felt like I could not trust the way I felt and was some sort of hypochondriac. I would most probably be dead had I listened to the ER doctors.

I know your pain Penn. I can feel it even these 7 months after you posted this video. I no longer have my Gall Bladder because it was failing and only operating at 7%. Before they determined that they sent me to 7 different specialist who thought I had everything from cancer, to a hernia to appendicitis. 7 specialist who all ran test upon test and everything came back negative for 6 months. Four years go by and I would still have random pain in my abdomen that would have me over in pain. Back to thinking appendicitis and more test. Finally this one doctor started to listen to what was happening and ran some test that came back negative on gall bladder being an issue. I explain to him and he runs one more to test my gall bladder function (apparently it is different). Mine had been only operating at 7%. I believe the minimum you need is 20%. So they removed it.

This reminds me of the time before I was even born when my dad (who also is very overeagerant )told my mom his stomach was absolutely killing him. She brushed it off and said lay down and it’ll get better.two days later, I’m not sure what happened but they ended up calling the ambulance and he went to the hospital. My mom still thinking it’s gonna be the flu or something else small, finds out that he needs emergency surgery. The doctors tell her something(idk what) and then he got his GALLBLADDER REMOVED. It was really bad I’m not sure exactly what happened for it need it to be removed but now he calls his scar... he calls it his second belly button.... 😂

Had the same thing happen to me! Had gallbladder removed. Sent me home with Oxycotion. Did not know they cause extreme constipation. 24 hours later doubled up in the fetal position in terrible pain. Feels like I have appendicitis. Wife take me to ER. They give me codine for the pain and start running tons of test. MRI, XRays. Blood test. It was a teaching hospital so one doctor was there with four other learning student doctors trying to figure it out. Finally after hours and hours found out I was full of crap. But because of the recent surgery admitted me. So I have been up all night the night before all day in the ER and at 2 am they get me to my rooom. This young NEW guy nurse come in with my lactolouse(AK super duper anticonstipation med) and suppository. I shoot the liquid down and he is holding the suppository. I look at him and exhausted and still in pain. Do you do it or do I. Either way?!? I grab it lift my gown and swoop up it goes. I went to bed and 2 hours later holly hell broke lose which I had to call the poor nurse every time. Don't take narcotics for pain. It will mess you up. 💩💩💩💩💦💦💦🔥🔥💩💩👹👺👹👺🙈🙉🙉

Been there... it was a military hospital so I didn't get a bill, but like a nurse said, they ran a full rainbow of tests before giving me a laxative. It was a training hospital so... they had fun with it. In my case it was prescription drug induced constipation that was so bad my bladder was blocked too. Afterwards I went to my periodontist and told him after surgery next time he's supposed to prescribe a laxative too. The doctors decided it was a great time to get the interns trained even in giving pap smears. I later learned they turned in my sample for an STD check instead of cancer. 🤦‍♀️
