Holdfast Nations at War 2023 Review: After 3000 Hours

Is Holdfast: Nations at War still a good game in 2023? In this video I review Holdfast, as well as share a bit of my experience playing the game over the past 3000 hours. What made Holdfast my most played game far and above everything else for the past three years? What problems does Holdfast face? And why am I still not very good at melee? I'll answer all of those things except the last one.

Excellent game. I started playing in 2018 and it’s one of the only shooters I’ve ever really enjoyed. You hit the nail on the head with your positives and negatives (although from my perspective the toxic element of the game has greatly improved at least compared to how it used to be). I actually might look into the line battles now as I’ve only ever played public and naval.

You really hit a lot of good points why the game is so much fun, i am also almost at 3000 ingame hours. I've only been playing it for so long purely because of being in a regiment where i've made a lot of new friends with people all over the world. For me as well when i joined a reg (77th) i was a 17 year old guy who spoke very bad english. Then i got the chance to become a nco and learned how to lead lines, lead trainings and host debriefs, which helped me with becoming comfortable in speaking in groups IRL. Basically buy holdfast, find a regiment with awesome people, and you're in for the long run! :)

As for the video itself I have never played this game besides seeing the meme videos people make of it. Great job and keep it going dude, you lay out your points clearly, besides the volume of your voice you speak very clearly. If I didn't already have my hands full of time vampires I'd give this game a shot based on your videos.

Hello! I used to be very active in the Holdfast regimental community, I was a co founder of a still running reg that has had moderate success. Note was because drama lead to me stepping down, but it was a fun time while it lasted. In my personal opinion private line battles can get boring quickly, for me public is the best way to play. Also what reg do you lead because I think I remember you from when I was active in the community, great video!

Game has a lot of potential but it just bugged as hell or have bad mechanics for me ( like cav ). There are some unfinished like Naval mode. WW1 is really unbalanced and barely anyone plays it. But yes thanks to community, regiments etc the game get its players

You should add some very soft background music IMO. I can hear a bit of background noise in your audio. While this might be solvable using the Audacity "remove background noise" feature, that could decrease quality, so the easiest option (besides buying a better mic) is to just add some background music and be done with it.

I’m of the firm belief that toxicity, memes, and micspam are what made and still make Holdfast memorable. Clans trying to play “correctly” is like trying to drain the entire ocean.
