I take you to frigid in-field conditions for this episode of "Is It Still Awesome." Temp is a balmy 15º, the Titan with its Baja Designs LED lights provides the lighting, and Chad from KelTec is here fighting to stay warm. This Floridian freezes up quick and has to retreat to the heated cab. Sean the TNPr is helping me do this KSG shooting as the snow flies. Lots of rounds fly and some surprising developments ensue... we're always learning. Thanks for the krazy video. Typical winter night in North Dakota! The first accessory I bought was a bunch of dummy shells from Brownell's. This system requires a lot of dry fire to maintain your competence and safety. The Hi Tech accessories like the extended shell tube selector help. Add their lower rail mod to reinforce the pump handle for safety. And their aluminum vertical forward grip. It won't snap off like your plastic one did. Don't try to over run the shotgun. You don't want to blow your support hand off it it slips in front of the barrel! And you pull the trigger! This is why there is a hand strap on the Mossberg Shockwave! Cheers

I really think you guys make loading the KSG way harder than it really is. Get a bandolier to start, that's a good 50 rounds easy to access immediately. Also, put a solid foregrip on that thing and an extender for the mag changer. Get a 1 point sling, attach it to the rear or above the grip. Run the left magazine first, and when you run dry, just slap over to the right until you have a reload moment, slap it back to the left, leave the gun against your shoulder downrange, held by your left hand on the foregrip, draw with your right hand from the bandolier, and slip the shell right on in with your thumb. I mainly use the right mag as an auxiliary.

I sold my KSG, but I still love it. Only reason I sold it was because it wasn’t going to be my primary home defense gun anymore. I would have kept it around in case I needed to arm up someone else in a pinch but it’s just too finicky for some who isn’t trained on it

There was a guy whose grip broke off like that while running it hard, and he blew most of his hand off. The pictures were going around a few years back. Much better to use an AFG or hand stops.

My thoughts exactly. I started getting worried when I first saw the vert grip but I definitely wasn’t expecting a near reenactment of the ksg automatic hand removal. I’ve never winced that hard in my life. This is exactly why trigger discipline is of upmost importance

This form factor works because it's a pump shotgun. If you made it automatic you would need to have more room in the back for bolt travel and a recoil spring. Unless you made some kind of rube Goldberg device which would be stupid and pointless. That's why guns like pancor jackhammer and tavor ts12 all have a fat ass. I love when people who have no clue about basic firearms design childishly proclaim "make me X gun with Y feature"! Usually these people then never actually buy the gun anyways and drive the company out of business.

Operator error. A wise person wouldn't pull the trigger until it's ready to fire, excluding objects they are not wanting to blow off from being in front of the barrel. It's a pump shotgun, not a machine gun. Strange how that's hard to grasp from people who try to prove something by trying to run it like one.

Another bullpup pump shotgun is the DP12......its actually double barrelled and the gen 2 just came out Its heavier and more expensive but also shots 2 rounds each pump and holds more rounds should check it put

Kel-Tec makes like every gun I want to buy and their handguns they're great brother stuff a couple of my buddies have had issues but in the last five or six years their quality control has gone through the roof remember you can carry a 32 ACP Kel-Tec on your ankle as a cop in any agency in the country

The KSG’s bottom rail isn’t good for mounting a forward grip. As nutnfancy found out. He’s lucky he didn’t lose a hand. The remedy I came up with was to put a metal rail on then a hand grip. The metal rail provides a stronger mount for the grip but more leverage on the plastic rail.

One feature not mentioned I think is the ability to switch between ammo tubes, so fire three or four #4 Buck and switch over to the other tube with slugs and carry on slug or switch back to #4 with the flip of a switch. Also as you saw this is NOT a shotgun you can short stroke and expect it to go bang.

Hi Nutnfancy, can you please ask Chad if they ever make a gen 3 of the KSG if they can make it so that the shell feeding alternates from one tube to the other with each pump, or the empty tube switches to the other full one by itself when it runs empty.

No new idea...Mossy 500 bullpup was 1980s design that was same format. only difference is dual tubes so really does that matter in actual combat...probably not. I have both KSG and KS7 and use Aguila exclusively

I bought a ks7 and went shooting with it the other day. First shot four shells ejected out of the magazine tube. Reloaded it and a few shots later two shells shot out of the tube on a another shot due to the recoil. What a pos, i do not plan on ever buying another kelcrap gun again

Its a great but quirky gun. They really need to put a metal rail or reinforced mlok onthe pump. Those few broken rails from people abusing them haunt what is otherwise a wrecking ball of a shotgun. They have a rail cover as well. I just put a grip that covers like two inches of rail to minimize torque. Lol and his grip snapped off....
