Tha window drops when the door is open to allow it to clear the rubber seal. If the battery has been disconnected it needs reprogramming before it will go back up on its own accord. A fantastic deal. I am the proud owner of a 2003 XKR and love it. Yours is not a 2004 as you state in the video. Round about 2002 the triple dials in the centre of the dash were replaced with a nav screen. You didn't mention any minor electrical issues which means you are either extremely lucky or haven't bothered to check all functions yet. With mine the driver's seat electric headrest does not work. The 6 CD changer also stopped working after I owned the car for about 3 yrs. When you look into these matters, they are very common with the X 100 model. The headrest is apparently fairly easy to fix but I just can't be bothered. The X 100 is from an era of better reliability. Beautiful cars.

It's a fly off handbrake, to keep it down out of the way, even when it's on. So to disengage it, push the button, and pull it up, and then lower it, and that disengages it. 4.2 XK8 would normally do 0-60 in about 6 seconds....so fairly quick for 20 years ago.

@SBOReeves3 ай бұрын
Great video. I have a very similar car and had to laugh when you unlocked the door with the key - I was counting down until the alarm started to go off. I also suspect you may have driven home with the handbrake on as it's designed to fall to the floor after application, just as the XJ-S's one did. A 'Jag' man would have known that, but I certainly don't hold that against you😆 Rust around the Cat Converters is also to be expected. I notice that the headlining is beginning its inevitable journey south as they all do after about 20 years. The central locking is likely to be a coupe of things - either the car has 'forgotten' the association with the fob - there's a video on KZbin about re-associating the fobs (you have to do both at the same time) - it's a case of turning the ignition on and flashing the headlights. If the range of the fob is very short then this is a known issue with the central locking ECU, and can be fixed - the aerial is in the rear window so try holding the fob near the back of the car and see if it works. These are absolutely fabulous cars to own and shouldn't feel slow - I suspect having the handbrake on didn't help in this respect. Certainly once they're over about 50 MPH they come alive.

WD40 on the ignition barrel, there’s a flap where the key goes in, it registers the key being present via a contact and jams up with grime. Might solve the locking and programming issues 🤞

I think you did OK with it selling for £3600. It clearly requires a bit of tlc to the body work and central locking after that it should give someone a lot of pleasure. From experience of owning two Xj's when they are running correctly they give you a level opulence that few other cars can match, but you need deep pockets to maintain them. Jaguar experts don't do cheap repairs.

The reason it wasn’t quick was because you left the handbrake ON! There is a knack to using the handbrake. They ARE quick 6.4 seconds to 60 is still quick. They are generally very reliable cars too.
@superchargedxjr5 ай бұрын
Having had XJs...V12s, Straight 6 (xjr), V8s (n/a & xjr) I would comment that your XK8 should pull like a train. In my experience, they all need regular use and almost constant maintenance. Clean the throttle-body meticulously, change the MAF, ensure no leaks (however small) in the plastic air box & inlet trunking. Get the engine blasted with "walnut shells", install a K & N air filter, and finally put in 30 quid of Shell 99 or Tesco Millennium (99) and I promise you, she will pull just like an average XKR!

The handbrake handle is always fully down so that doesn't help you determine whether it's actually on or not. I've had mine for 25 years and it often gets an advisory because the tester doesn't know how to engage or disengage the handbrake. I then have to sit around whilst they issue a new certificate. Bought for 7G in 2020 sold for 1.5G four years later and probably spent a bit of money on it in between, so with running costs and maintenance someone has said goodbye to 10G over 4 years or around 200 good old British pounds per month for something that stands around most of it's life not being used. Having said that I think the new owner got quite a nice car at a reasonable price. Yes you made money on it but you deserve it. You took the risks, did the necessary to get it reasonable and of course your company carries warranty liability.
