I can't believe how few people understand the point of this song. It's not a damn love song, you're not supposed to find it romantic or think it's the singer's idea of romance. It's about the tragedy of an abusive relationship.

No Adapple, this song is a cover of 1962's HE HIT ME AND IT FELT LIKE A KISS by The Crystals. The song was wrote by Carole King after she found out that the nanny they hired to take care of her children was constantly beaten by his BF and when they asked the nanny why she allowed that, she replied that he hit hr bc he loved her; you should listen to it. The nanny was Little Eva, who sang the famous Loco-Motion, also written by King.

I have never been in a physically abusive relationship, but this reminds me of being young, and being dumb enough to think my boyfriend's jealousy and attempts to control me was a sign of how much he loved me. Don't fall for it girls!

G Juat because you perceived it as manipulation doesn't make it so. What it really meant was insecurity and probably a feeling of undeserved affection. The way people act out isn't always congruous with the particular issue they face.

This song was written in 1962 by Carole King and her husband. They wrote for an all black female band called The Crystals. It's not promoting domestic abuse just stating the point of view from women who are victims of domestic violence and how they rationalize being hit, beaten. Something some of us will never understand. I'm glad I have never experienced domestic abuse. I always wonder how could a woman put up with being a man's punching bag and still say, but I love him. The lyrics to he hit me, kind of give you an idea of the mindset of women in abusive relationships.

Easy to look down on other human beings from your high horse. Here's to hoping you can empathize without learning how women and men get trapped in abusive relationships. Most women are killed by their partners when they leave. Cops don't care about DV. It's nearly impossible to get a restraining order, let alone cops and courts to enforce it, and then they get off with probation or a few days in jail. My best friend was murdered. Stay in your goddamn lane.

chloe peeti Pretty infamous song. Written by Carole King and Gerry Goffin after finding out their kid's babysitter, Little Eva of 'Do The Locomotion' fame, was being beaten by her husband. She legitimately said that he hits her cause he loves her. Phil Spector supposedly forced The Crystals to sing and record it cause he wanted out of a contract and knew the song would receive heavy criticism and backlash. Great song though.
