Thanks so much! I have had a pair of jeans that I wanted to do this to for a couple of months...but wasn't completely sure how to get the look I was going for. 10 minutes later they are done and I love them!!!

Hey, thanks for your help. This was very useful for my jeans. They were fraying out on the sides.

I have a favorite pair of jeans with a lovely hole just waiting for a cool patch! What a great tutorial! Thank you! Could you show how you mend the tough seams on jeans-where there are many tears..
@KnotsKneedles9 жыл бұрын
Kahna Emery Thank you. Are you talking about around the pockets, just on the outside of the seams or around the leg seam? I'm not sure, but it's a good idea. I'll consider the possibility. :)

Good idea! Mine were the bulky kind, but kids' jeans might have simpler seams...maybe?

i want to do this for my 4 yr old son's jeans, i don't know how to work the knee portion inside the sewing machine (if you understand what i mean, hard to explain)..any pointers on that? thanks for you video :)
@KnotsKneedles11 жыл бұрын
Well, I imagine your child's jeans (4 yrs old) would be quite small (skinny leg openings, etc), so I'm not entirely sure you could get to the knee on your machine. I had to remove my extension table to do my own jeans (straight leg), which made the "table" part of the sewing machine much skinnier, which made it easier to slide my jeans onto. If all else fails, you could forget the sewing machine and just sew it by hand.

Wow. I tossed a good pair of jeans out in frustration. I wish I had seen this first. I bet this could be handsewn too.
@KnotsKneedles8 жыл бұрын
+Mary Finn I'm sure it could, but the stitches would have to be small and secure to keep the fray in check and survive all the washings. :)

I'm gonna try this!! I have a lot of printed leggings that I don't wear anymore, so that's going to be my fabric

You can take the seam out of the inside of the leg...fix the area then sew the seam again. As long as that seam is a normal seam and not the double stiched kind.

Are you stitching from the right side of the jeans? The patch is on wrong side but you stitched from right side???
@KnotsKneedles9 жыл бұрын
grammieluli Yes. This was so I could allow the fringe around the hole in my jeans to kind of "frame" the patch. And as for the stitching...you can really do that any way you like. I prefer to use a color of thread that shows from the front to create color and texture around the hole. It's just makes it a little more chic and bohemian in style, but it could be changed up to include lace, embroidery, or you could also use a matching thread to give it a cleaner look.

Thank you for the reply and explanation. I will be trying this boho look today! Love it and glad I found this tutorial!

Did you cut that patch out of the middle of your fabric? Doesn't that waste a large piece of fabric that could be used for something else?
@KnotsKneedles8 жыл бұрын
+fiddler2u It was a leftover piece of fabric from an apron I made. I cut down in the bottom left corner of the piece, but when I made the cut for the patch, I think I cut a few inches in for the pattern I wanted to show through the hole from the patch. As you can see in the video, it had lots of colors and pattern variations throughout. I always use scrap pieces for patching, if I can. :)

Would fabric from and old pair of yoga pants work or would that be too soft/thin/stretchy? I'm just trying to patch my favorite jean shorts, which have become indecent from the size of the holes
@KnotsKneedles8 жыл бұрын
I would be careful if you use the yoga pant fabric due to the stretch. If you pull too much while sewing, you may create wrinkles or pucker. You could always try it out without using any adhesive, and if it doesn't work, just pull out the stitching and find something else to use.

Please tell me you have a side business doing this? I go through work jeans like crazy, and I haven't found anyone in my area that repairs clothing. So now instead of replacing nine pairs of jeans at $15 per pair, I decided to fix them myself... With glue :) There are plenty of men out their that are rough on their clothes. If you aren't advertising your skill, you're likely to be missing a nice financial opportunity.
@KnotsKneedles8 жыл бұрын
I do not. I already have a business, which leaves little time for anything else right now, but thank you for the idea!

There is absolutely no way to do this at least on my machine because there is not enough room to fit the jeans in/around the sewing machine. Only way it would fit is to sew through both sides of jeans which of course would not work.
@KnotsKneedles7 жыл бұрын
Matt Millions It depends on your machine and the size and style of jeans. I had to wiggle mine around too, on the machine.
