Matt! I made it a point to try to miss on the high side and always err on the side of taking more break than I think I need. First time trying it on course today and I made 3 25 footers. You're the best!!

Hi Matt, your videos are very enjoyable. Very personable. I feel lucky that I love the challenge of putting, whether I'm hitting 40 putts or 29 I'm still learning. I hit 29 (8x 1 putts) today with my old Mizuno putter and broke 80 with a 76. I've only been playing properly for 4 months.

very good tips. especially about hitting the start line. Great idea to do putting drills on a dewey green so that we can track the path.

I use the double gate drill all the time at home, a gate for the putter for contact and a gate a few inches ahead for the ball to pass through. Really good to work on both contact and direction at the same time. You can use golf balls instead of tee pegs if using a practice mat at home.

Hi Matt, awesome content again m8, I have those days like most where I 3 putt a couple of times in a round, but it’s so useful to understand like you just explained, simple but very affective ways to cut those putts down to 1 and 2 safe putts, excellent drills with a little more time over each putt 👍👍

Matt this might be a crazy question but is there any situations on the green where a player might benefit from hitting out of the toe or heel and what are the different characteristics of doing those two things. Possibly another vid to talk about that ty great instructional videos.

The 'Tiger' drill I do 1 and 2 handed from 6ft for 10-15 minutes before every round, helps massively

The 2 biggest things to realise and length is more important than line, and that there is always more break than what your eyes determine the apex to be. Dave Pelz and John Graham delve into this phenomenon extensively and John has a couple of excellent videos on KZbin

Its funny how guys will smash ball after ball on a range but you rarely see them do proper putting practice sessions. Or get putting lessons. Another great vlog Matt Cheers

I'm a good putter until I get the 3 to 4 foot downhill, big breaking, very fast putts. Our greens are very fast to begin with. If I hit it a little too hard and miss, I have almost as difficult a putt coming back. This leaves me very tentative on that particular putt. Any suggestions?
@diogeneslantern183 жыл бұрын
Downhill putts from that range should be tapped _just_ hard enough to get to the fall line and let gravity take over. Broadie's _Every Shot Counts_ and Pelz' _Putting Bible_ are phenomenal treatise on optimal putting strategies for every length and angle.
@sfink163 жыл бұрын
@@diogeneslantern18 Thanks! I do try to do that. However, determining the fall line on very fast hard breaking putts is unfortunately not easy. Especially playing early morning with wet green that later dry out when the sun hits them.
@WilsoTron3 жыл бұрын
Linked in with tip 3. If there is a break then you need to focus on a new target to the left or right and not the hole. Sounds obvious but alignment to account for a break does nothing unless the target you focus on also takes account of the break

Good tips. But for Tip #1: what difference does it make to miss it high or low? A miss is a miss regardless. A miss low is guaranteed. A miss high is still a miss. If it happens to go in, it wasn’t really a miss.

Funny thing is the "amateur" side would go in with a harder hit and the "pro" side would go in with a softer hit... A miss is a miss in my eyes

Missing high or low, short or long, it's still umm...a miss.
@Mattfryergolf3 жыл бұрын
But if always missing low it's a higher percentage that it will miss, if you get it on the high side then it has a chance all the way.
@WarrenVanWyck153 жыл бұрын
Hole more putts? The only way to do that is to play more holes. No matter how good or how bad you are at putting, everyone makes exactly 18 putts per round. Lawyered.
@tankeater3 жыл бұрын
So Pros overread breaks and amateurs underread breaks??? Just sounds like a bad read to me 🤷
