Totally agree.. In fact, exactly today I thought about 90s music, after having seen a concert yesterday, where they played several 90s rock music.. And i thought "wow, I hated grunge in the beginning and 90s rock music, for it erased the previous hard rock scene... Then I realized, that in the end of the 80s all rock bands looked like drag queens pretending to play rock musuc, when it was all love ballads and acoustic stuff covered in glitter and leather... The 90s came with a whole new scenario of nerds and weirdos, who were really sad and angry, for they didn fit in the picture, but had alot to say.. I mean smashing pumpkins, nirvana, all those people were more like me, than Whitesnake or Stryper... And then I started to drive and put on Gish by the Smashing Pumpkins and I thought "wow, this is Emotional Angry music..." I can understand, that slot if the audience felt this way as well... Not fitting into the world, looking fir someone, who talked about the negative side of life, instead of always Love if my Life, Love and affection, More than words, Fool for your Loving and such... I m now re discovering many great bands... Music is Life!

my mom showed me this song when i was really young, she told me she resonated with it, which made me sad because i thought it was a very dark song. Now I’m older and have found an appreciation for it and resonate with it myself. 90's is my fav genre. Living through it in my 20s was frankly a real privilege. It was so gritty, strong, and unapologetically authentic. It was a middle finger to the excess of the 80's. I'm getting how powerful.a lyricist and musician that Courtney is. She really gets a bad rap, but I feel sorry for her. Her life has been a shit show and that is coming from her. I look at her triumphs, not mistakes and see her as an inspiration. I mean she had to keep it together after Kurt's suicide a rear her daughter on her own. That had to have been brutal and she did what a lot of people in that situation do. She self medicated. But, the woman got clean, works her tail off, and has worked hard to be a better person for her daughter and her fans. We all lost Kurt, a damn legend, but that was her husband, the love of her life, and father of her only child. Anyone dealing with that would have epic pain. I respect Courtney, as a person, a mother, a d as an artist. If she were a man, would we hesr the same villifications that this artist had experienced? Doubtful it would be as severe. Courtney, keep making your music and representing strong women of our generation.

My best friend commited suicide and this song is hard to hear because he suffered inside. Bullied, drug addiction, relationship issues, identity issues. But he was a beautiful dude. Always a light. Rest in peace eddy. I love you man. And took a part of my heart away when i lost you man. I took the weight for this guy as much as i could but that wasnt enough. If you need counseling seek help. Suicide is never the answer. You never fully understand how much a person loves you until you arent there any more.
@NorthernKitty

I know it hurts, but please be at peace with it. He did it to end his own pain, not to cause any pain for anyone else. Be comforted by the fact he is no longer suffering the kind of intense agony that would drive a person to commit suicide. It's like being trapped in a burning skyscraper, no way to escape, you're certain you're going to die and you just want the pain to stop - so you jump out the window. It SEEMS the only logical choice. To the suicidal person, it seems completely irrational to spend the remainder of their life unable to do anything but suffer immense pain. They just don't realize there truly is a way to put out the flames when their "burning skyscraper" is mental anguish. He just didn't know. It's tragic, but he simply didn't know and there's likely nothing anyone could have done to convince him. Some things we HAVE to discover for ourselves. Yes, if someone suicidal is reading this, there IS a way out. Keep looking. It's hard to just take that on faith, but keep trying. Get help, get advice, but you're the one who ultimately has to figure out the answer, to find another exit. It's different for everyone, but it IS there. Keep looking. What have you got to lose to give it another try? If you've lost someone to suicide, be at peace that they truly thought they were doing the right thing, they just didn't know, they couldn't know - why should they believe us when we're not the ones suffering? Our reasoning and reassurances sound like sheer nonsense in the face of their pain. It's a tragic and heartbreaking thing but they never intended to hurt you... it was never about you, just their tremendous suffering, and there's nothing you could have done. Be at peace with the peace they found and accept that not everyone will succeed at finding another way and there's no one to blame for that.

The reason we feel this way is because we arecut off from God by our sins against Him. Here is the roadmap to show how you and everyone can find Him. Site Map We’re all explorers in unfamiliar territory. How do you find the way? You read the map. THE WORLD IS DESIGNED Look at your hand. All those muscles, nerves, blood vessels; skin, fingernails, touch sensors -did those just happen? Of course not. Evolutionists have to try to lead people away from what is intuitively obvious: we are designed for life. Your hand is just one of a billion signposts that life is the result of an intelligent cause - not chance. Illustra Media’s excellent films on Intelligent Design leave no other option: the universe has been Master-planned (watch The Case for a Creator online). Science can lead you to this signpost The rest will take logic, historical evidence, and honest reflection. THE DESIGNER IS PERSONAL Out of nothing, nothing comes. Your mind - your thoughts and emotions, and your power to choose - have a source: a Creator with intellect, emotions, and will. No “force” or cosmic accident could produce a mind. Those who say the mind is made of chemicals cannot prove their thoughts have any validity-including their thoughts that the mind is made of chemicals. Your mind is the next signpost: the Creator is personal. THE DESIGNER IS MORAL We all know right from wrong. Ask a person who believes morals are relative, and you will find him or her passionately defending some cause or other as right. Treat that person unjustly, and they will tell you that you were wrong to do that. Anyone who says morals evolved from our animal past cannot prove anything is morally wrong, including the horrible notion that someday a terrorist nation might seek to kill off all the evolutionists. Would that be wrong, according to Darwinism? Your conscience provides daily evidence that morality is real - and that we all violate our own moral standards. THE DESIGNER IS ETERNAL Once you’ve followed these signs, you realize that the Designer who really exists-who really created the world and life-must be an eternal, all-powerful, all-wise, moral being. A local designer won’t do. Otherwise, truth would only be true locally, and right would only be right locally. The universe must have an unchanging, timeless reference point. That eternal reference point is your next signpost. THE DESIGNER IS ONE Ancient religions that taught polytheism (lots of gods) ended up telling stories of those gods fighting each other. They could never say who made all the gods. Even their chief gods were said to emerge from the void. No; the universe has one, and only one, Master Architect. THE DESIGNER COMMUNICATES Humans are communicative beings. It makes no sense that the Designer of human beings He made to relate, share, and communicate would be silent Himself, or would hide His signposts from them. The eternal moral Judge of all would not leave His creatures clueless about His laws. God has put the light of His existence into creation, our minds and our consciences. Light received brings more light. Keep in mind these directions: “turn right at the light.” THE BIBLE IS THAT COMMUNICATION There are many holy books in the world, but there is only one that is rooted in history: the Bible. It’s not just the speculations of a guru; it can be checked against other historical sources. The Bible is a collection of 66 books, written by different authors at different times, who all agree on the nature of God and the requirements for salvation. Where it speaks of history, it is right. Where it speaks to science, it is right. No other “holy book” comes close. THE BIBLE FORETOLD A SAVIOR From the first book (Genesis) to the arrival of Jesus, the Bible foretold a day when the Lord would visit His people and wash away their sins. One of the most remarkable prophecies of all, Isaiah 53, described how this innocent “Servant” would be beaten and pierced, suffering for the sins of the people. Isaiah 9:6 foretold he would be the mighty God, the everlasting Father, the prince of peace. Isaiah 7:14 predicted He would be born of a virgin; Micah 5:2, that He would be born in Bethlehem. These were written hundreds of years before Jesus was born. Online selections from the La Mirada film Prophecies of the Passion explore many of these prophecies. JESUS CHRIST IS THAT SAVIOR Not only did Jesus fulfill dozens of prophecies about the coming Savior, He rose from the dead. This is the ultimate miraculous proof Jesus is the Son of God. The evidence is overwhelming that Christ is alive - the empty tomb, the martyrdom of the apostles, the number of eyewitnesses - and the skeptical theories all are fatally flawed. He lives! See these 9 episodes from the La Mirada film The Case for Christ for a good presentation of evidence that convinced a hardened atheist. JESUS CHRIST CALLS YOU TO REPENT AND BELIEVE THE GOOD NEWS The message of Jesus Christ is to repent of your sins and believe the gospel. The gospel is the good news that the Lord has come, has put away sin by the sacrifice of His Son Jesus, and has offered eternal life by faith in Him. God doesn’t want your good works or efforts. Your sins make you fall far short of His requirements. You need to be “born again” into the family of God, then God the Holy Spirit will dwell in you and lead you into a life pleasing to Him. He made it easy, so that even a child can do it: just repent, and entrust your life to the Lord Jesus Christ. You could do it right now. Pray something like this, meaning it sincerely: “Lord Jesus, I know you are my Creator. I know I am a sinner, and I’m sorry for my sins. I now choose to turn from my sins to you. I believe that You died on the cross and rose again for me. You said you would come into my heart if I would open the door, so I invite you into my heart, to be first in my life. I believe you do come in, right now like you promised. Thank you for giving me eternal life. Now I belong to you! Help me to live for you in all I do. Amen.” THE WALK OF FAITH Christ followers begin a walk of faith. Faith is not a leap in the dark; it’s taking steps in the direction the evidence points. The walk of faith is a narrow trail (unlike the broad highway of sin), and it is difficult at times because of sin in the world. God’s word gives us a flashlight for the path. We must keep our eyes on Jesus, and trust Him even in the hard times. Read and study the Bible for guidance. Join a solid, Bible-teaching church that teaches creation and salvation by grace through faith in Christ (stay away from cults that pretend to do this). Be baptized and get involved. Find mature Christ followers who can help you stay on the right path, till we all join in celebrating the victory of Jesus in a great family reunion in heaven. A LIFE OF SERVICE Before we meet in heaven, what on earth are you doing for Christ’s sake? God gives every one of His followers gifts and talents to use for building up His family, the church. Find out what your gifts are and use them to serve the Lord and help others. You can be part of fulfilling Christ’s prayer, “Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” From now on, your life will be an adventure of faith, walking with the Lord, with His Spirit dwelling within you to guide you. As missionary William Carey said (and proved true in his life), “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” May God bless this to your hearts.

@@andrewferguson8032 this is definitely all Courtney, she’s spoken about her love for Anne Sexton and this is clearly inspired by Self in 1956. She was also diagnosed with autism as a child and the feeling of fakeness and performance is a very common trait in females with autism, as we mask a ton and essentially absorb the personalities of whomever we’re speaking to. And that type of line can only come from someone who’s lived a lie for a long time and has actually come to relish their artificiality or take a bitter pleasure from it.

This might be the saddest, most cathartic song I’ve ever heard. We all have pain and this song brings me straight to mine every time I listen to it. I Love it though. It’s an intrinsic part of who I am and even though it hurts, it satiates something tucked away deep in some distant corner of my soul. Music is the best medicine. It’s worth the stick.

maybe he’s representing kurt… or it’s Courtney in her childhood. Maybe she felt like a boy bc her mom never allowed her to wear girly clothes, take ballet lessons and play with dolls and stuff.. (that’s also part of the reason why she dressed kinderwhore in adulthood) he’s/ she’s looking at the doll wishing to be more like it, perfect, girly Idc just the thought that crossed my mind when i saw this image

Also in my opinion ,,doll parts” is about comparing to other women when it comes to rivality in realationships. She probably feels worse than them bc she’s not the ,,perfect doll”, the kinda women she was looking up to as a child. So she remembers how she wished to become that perfect woman when she was little

“Doll Parts,” which Courtney wrote “in 20 minutes in a girl named Joyce’s bathroom in Cambridge, Massachusetts.” “I had to write most of the lyrics on my arm in sharpie as I ran out of paper,” she continued. “People were pounding on the door as I wrote it. It was played for the first time about an hour later, at the Virgin megastore in Boston. It was about a boy, whose band had just left town, who I’d been sleeping with, who I heard was sleeping with 2 other girls, it was my way of saying ‘You’re a f-ing idiot if you don’t choose ME, and here is all the desire and fury and love that I feel for you. Good songs don’t always come in 20 minutes but the force was strong and that one did.” “Anyway I married that guy,” she cheekily concluded.

These words are super, fucking intense. I think I understand what shes feeling and saying. But the part about " you will ache like I ache", I think she means the object of her love, right.? Her " guy". But I wonder, do they ever ache like we ache? Men, or lovers, I mean. They say they hurt too, but why cant we see it then? Why doesnt it seem like they're aching too? At least, I've NEVER seen it. I've wished it on a few, to ache like I do, but somehow I have the feeling they just went about their life. Especially when it's someone " they all want". They dont seem to appreciate that " you do, too." And that maybe you're the only "real" one. Anybody else feelin' that? Thanks for letting me share? Vent? Well, whatever, Court makes me feel better. If someone as beautiful and talented as she is felt this, then, a regular ol' girl like me is screwed!

The industry was extremely sexist to every musician that emulates a woman with a guitar at the time. Now they are nicer but what women have to go through to get to places in life not even like Courtney, is the saddest way to live. Men do not face what that kind of psyche endures. It’s a very sad world and the state of the globe has reverted back to times nothing like 1994 as this song embodies and is the epitome of what defeat is. Take care and stay safe many blessings.

How Doll Parts was written ->> On the evening of Nov. 6th, 1991, Courtney was in Cambridge, MA for a Hole gig. There, she was told that a woman from the area called herself Kurt's girlfriend and that she was at that very moment with Kurt in London. Kurt and Courtney had just been seeing each other for three weeks. Courtney performed the Hole repertoire but at one point she ignored the setlist and started improvising a new song with the lyrics "I Am" and the same chords from Doll Parts. After the show, Courtney locked herself in the toilet and wrote the lyrics in her arms. At 3 a.m. London time, Kurt's hotel phone rang. It was Courtney asking him if what she had been told was true. Kurt admitted that the woman was indeed in the room with him. The morning after, Kurt told the other woman she couldn't travel on Nirvana's bus anymore. He tried to contact Courtney with no luck. That same day but in the US, Courtney played what is known as Doll Parts. The day after, Nov. 8th, Kurt had his first television appearance on The Word and he started it by saying "I want everyone in this room to know, that Courtney Love, from the sensational pop group Hole, is the best f in the world". Courtney forgave him and sent him a fax to his hotel room with some Doll Parts lyrics "I am doll parts, bad skin, doll hearts, it stands for knife, for the rest of my life, peel my little heart off and soak it in your left hand and call me tonight".

How romantic, for 2 grunge music "greats". I must say that I have been convinced that "doll parts" had been written AFTER Kurt's death. And, the Little boy in the video is KINDA representing KURT, because if the shirts the kid is wearing, it looks like the type of "second hand store" shirts that Kurt wore. PLUS, the little boy is BLONDE like Kurt had been for most of the band NIRVANA"S popular years. Courtney Love has made some really great music with Hole, so, even if MANY people don't like her personally, I can't find fault with her music. AND, after hearing about her so called "father", and how he had been a HORRIBLE parent, and I am NOT saying that Courtney had just said all of this about him. HE has admitted to giving a VERY YOUNG Courtney LSD/ acid, just to see how she would react to it. And, he is a very CALLOUS piece of crap. He has NO GUILT about sending a YOUNG Courtney to school without making sure that she had been "clean". When I was young, I had also been sent to school without being "clean". Courtney had been called "pee Girl" as a result of her going to school without an adult making sure that she would bathe often. And when I was young, my mom worked many hours, and my dad wasn't always mentally "right", so, IF nobody had told me to go and take a bath, or shower, me, being a kid, I didn't care to wash up. I was about age 7-9 back then. Being dirty was NOT anything to be worried about to me.

It was *written* late 1991 after C & K had just met, an acoustic version recorded Nov '91 for John Peel's show - 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 version recorded later for an album released a week after Kurt's death, the 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 was filmed late 1994 / 6 months 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 Kurt died. Obviously the kid is meant to represent Kurt.

Favorite Hole track! I was born a little late, in 1990. Wish my teenager years had been in the late 80's, early 90's. Still, I had been listening to punk and grunge since I was 6 or 7, and by my own choice, not because of my parents. Courtney is one of the few that I get to see, that still understands what that was all about. Nice to go back to those sweet days, even if I was too young to appreciate them.

I was also born in 1990 and wish I had been born earlier so that I could have enjoyed this music at the "right" age. But then again, there's always the chance I wouldn't have been into it had I come around at another time. My eldest sister was born in '79 and loved the whole grunge scene, so I mostly got into it when I was about 12 by being nosy in her CD collection. But my older sister was born in '82 and preferred West Coast rap over any of the alternative rock stuff when she was growing up. I could have gone down that road instead lol. I mean, at least we have the Internet so we can enjoy it.

TimberWolvesX X You hear it with every generation really....although I'm content with having grown up during the 90's for sure - I especially still love the music. For those wishing they were born earlier, enjoy your youth and enjoy the time now as best you can. Because if you were a teen in the 90's you'd be in your 30's now. ;)

Some people are hating on 2016 and the state of music, but in this decade we have all the music of every period in the palm of our hands, literally. Quit hating, the top 40 may suck but you can still listen to 'old' jewels like this one.
