Even though in Canada our Thanksgiving was in October, I am still making these recipes. I absolutely love this lady!!!! Even though I am so far north, just listening to her makes me want to discover our neighbors to the south, and their famous hospitality!!

I'm with you, Paula, in that I can't stand to drink buttermilk, but love to bake with it and I LOVE buttermilk pie. The last time I actually took a sip of buttermilk, however, was when my mama and aunt were still alive. I drove Mama down from Ft. Worth to Pasadena (near Houston), TX, for a visit with Aunt Polly. One morning, my aunt made breakfast for the three of us. Mom chose buttermilk to drink with her breakfast, and I chose sweet milk. The three of us were chatting away while eating, and I took a sip of my milk. My reaction was immediate...and Aunt Polly realized that she had accidentally put Mama's glass down by my plate, and I got her buttermilk. She apologized for the mishap and switched our glasses. I said it was okay; that I tried to drink buttermilk at least once every 7 years 'cause I'd heard that one's taste buds changed every 7 years or so, and I might someday come to like the taste of buttermilk. My aunt said that at my age (I was 52-53 at the time) my tastebuds would never change that much, and that I had her permission to stop trying buttermilk. (I must have really had an awful expression on my face as I tasted that buttermilk!)

We love it. Not that grocery store stuff, though. We get ours from a local farmer in glass milk jugs at the Farmer's Market. We put salt and lots of black pepper in the bottom of the cup, pour the buttermilk in, and add more salt and pepper. Grab a spoon, and its like eating delicious ice cream. Yum!

First of all I must say you look so pretty today! I love buttermilk pies. I make 2 every Thanksgiving. One of my husband's grandmother's always had buttermilk pie at Thanksgiving so I started that tradition as well. My daughters just love them. I guess I been making those for 38 years now. I never have added cinnamon or pumpkin spice though but it does sound good. Happy Thanksgiving to you all

If you find you've beaten your heavy cream into butter, you can add more cream and it will thin it back out.

I've never tasted buttermilk & never heard of buttermilk pie until my former fiancee's mother made it for us and it was delicious!! His parents live in central Mississippi and we would go down twice a year and boy did we eat good every trip down that we took. Fresh catfish with homemade hush puppies? I would weigh 500 pounds of I lived there! That's where I learned how to make apple crisp with the yellow dry cake mix sprinkled over apple pie filling and then top with squares of butter - that's some good food now!!!
