VSX 150 gear ratio is a yawn fest 4.75:1 ...wake me up after you reel the fish in.

A slower gear ratio is often times better. Especially for striped bass. It helps you be more precise when working plugs. It will give you far better control and action on your plugs.

My issue is that I come from a freshwater background (i.e.high gear ratio reels) - I prefer 5.6:1 or as high as 6:1 and my plug precision comes from my wrist and rod with the ability to create bursts from a faster retrieve at times. I genuinely wished Van Staal would offer models with higher gear ratio. I totally get the required torque of a lower gear ratio for horsing in a bass... not for me. Happy holidays
