I had a similar story with my first AirPods. I usually clean them with those pullout tissues, I did in in the bathroom and just left them wrapped in the tissue. I didn’t know that I haven’t returned them so I threw the tissue to the bin. I went out to visit relatives and was surprised when I saw no AirPods in the case. Instant panic. When I got home, luckily they were in the trash. I usually throw these tissues to the toilet 😶
