Dear, Dear Linda: Thank you for tuning me in to this amazing pecan pie recipe. My niece followed your instructions carefully, watching your video a few times. You are a teacher, and you always tell us why you do what you do. My niece combined by hand, used the right ingredients, included a fantastic vanilla that I have. She lightly toasted the pecans in the oven. You weren't exaggerating. This was absolutely the best pecan pie I have ever had! it's my dad's favourite pie, and he was thrilled with it. And it's so easy....so neat that you got the recipe from a Dear Abby column. Our only regret was that my niece made the pastry using the cuisinart recipe. that didn't turn out so great. next time, I'll use the roll out tender flake pastry sheets, or make tarts for Christmas. Tarts really do make the most sense anyways. I made the sirloin roast to your instructions. it was larger than I thought. just over 3 lbs. I am a cook poultry, pork, and fish cook. I barbeque steaks to perfection, but I'm not known for my beef roasts. It was so fabulous...I had no idea such a lean cut could be that tender. even the skinny ends that were well done were tender. it was otherwise pink throughout. So delicious. There should of been leftovers, but my son and husband devoured it. several hours before roasting, I grabbed a package of liptons onion soup with garlic and mixed it with olive oil to make a paste, then rubbed it all over the roast. I made sure it was room temperature before placing in the oven. I wanted to carry the roast in and out of the oven myself, so I used a Pyrex instead of one of my nice cast iron pans. too heavy. I made a bridge out of large carrots to lift the roast up. So, we had wonderful roast carrots with the beef and potatoes. I was tired yesterday, so I didn't mske gravy, and I used instant mashed potatoes. I can't peel potatoes right now. with the instant potatoes, I used butter and half and half cream. they tasted like the real deal. Thank You for all your advice. I haven't regretted making any of your recipes and using your techniques! Sending a huge God Bless You, from Saskatoon! ~ Julia

Hands That Cook I'm glad he liked it. He's the reason I got back into wanting to cook again. Can't say that for my ex who was critical and always telling me how to cook. This guy who I knew in school does not do that. He says practice makes perfect and if it don't turn out try again. Learn from mistakes. He said what makes a good cook is not some one that can just grab a cook book follow it to the T . But a cook who cooks with LOVE. So with that being said I got back in to cooking where I left off when ex decided to criticize and tell me how to do the cooking. Basicly I have up for a while and we ate prepaired food from grocery store or ate out. So ya me back to doing what I wanted to do yrs ago. Learn to cook like my Grandma and now I have began. Blessings to you.

Thank you! I made them last night for my boyfriend. Since I don’t eat pecan pie and I can’t bake that well, I brought a few to several family members to see how they tasted. They devoured them and asked for more!! Doing the individual pies is genius - I was able to test my pies, and have intact ones to give to my boyfriend. Thank you so much!!

Hi, I was wondering does the recipe call for salted or unsalted butter?
@Handsthatcook7 жыл бұрын
Hi Taome.....I NEVER use unsalted butter.....so you'll know from any other recipe that the butter will be salted. This is the BEST pecan pie I've ever eaten and the only one I'll make. I hope you and your family enjoy it as well!! TFW God Bless, Linda

This looks really good but the only problem is you still have to use corn syrup. I went to making a pecan pie with maple syrup instead to not use corn syrup and it's very good.

I want to use this to make the large pie.... Im nervous about the cooking time... I dont want it to be undercooked or dry and over cooked.... Ive seen some recipes that say when a toothpick comes out clean or when the middle of the pie doesnt jiggle or movie in the middle anymore.... also a lot of pecan pies cook at 375, and this one is at alot lower temp... I guess Im just being a nervous nelly about when to take it out.... do you have any advice you could give me..... My grandma passed and she made an awesome pecan pie, and left no recipe... needless to say I tried the one on the back of the dark Karo syrup.... It was horrible! my grandma always got recipes out of the newspaper, and did read that columb. I can tell how you talk about it that this is it... and if its not, I can tell that it is really good.... thank you for posting....

Hello Linda :D I did not understand well the pie shell "thing". Is the pie shell made of crust like the 100 yrs old pie crust? or is it a different one? or could I use the 100 yrs old one? I am in love with that crust ahahhhah Thanks for your patience xoxo Sabrina
@Handsthatcook8 жыл бұрын
Hi Sabrina, you can use the 100 yr old pie crust...it would be perfect OR you can just buy a premade crust and save the trouble of making one....your choice. TFW and commenting God Bless, Linda

My mom always said the same thing, never mix fast with pecan pie and then she would put a 3 to 6 tsp of vanilla extract and put a bunch of pecans on top but then again she'd be either making 2 to sometimes 6 pies I didn't pay too much attention lol

Thought I'd share this famous recipe by Marjorie Kinan Rawlings who wrote, "The Yearling." I grew up not far from her house on the lake. Recipe Source: “Cross Creek Cookery” by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Ingredients: 1 cup sugar 1 1/4 cups Southern cane syrup 4 eggs 4 tablespoons butter 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 1/2 cups pecan meats, broken coarsely 1 pie crust, unbaked Directions: Boil sugar and syrup together 2 or 3 minutes. Beat eggs not too stiff, pour in slowly the hot syrup, add the butter, vanilla and pecan meats. Turn into a raw pie shell and bake in a moderate oven about 45 minutes, or until set. Note: Rawlings declared this dish too rich to eat an entire slice, saying she had “served it to those in whose welfare I took no interest.” We dare you to try it anyway. And if you haven’t tried cane syrup, you should. You can find it at some specialty markets and almost always at one of the weekend booths at the Jacksonville Farmers’ Market on Beaver Street. Even if you never make the pie, cane syrup is good on everything from pancakes to biscuits. Source: “Cross Creek Cookery” by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings

Hi Caroline, I appreciate the generosity and thoughtfulness by supplying this recipe. I have tasted many pecan pie recipes in my life and rule out those that are too sweet or bland. The video I chose to demo is the only one I'll serve. It's perfect. The recipe you've supplied is described as so rich you won't be able to finish the slice. I know it won't pass my taste test. If you can't enjoy a single slice of it, it's too sweet and rich. Maybe some of my viewers will try the recipe but personally in my humble opinion, my version cannot be improved upon nor do I want to try another recipe and stray from one I adore and I deem as perfect. I do appreciate you sharing though. Linda

Talking about pie getting cut by diff people she should put one pie out at the time instead put more than one out Wait til its gone then put other one out...I see some people didging the mid piece cake from the pan instead just get the piece out from the edge I can see some people who don't like the corner piece cake or Lasagna being wired and selfishness 😝

Let me give you a variation on this pie to try...use white sugar and leave out the vanilla. That's how we do ours. Just try it once. We like it much better than with the brown sugar. Also we use chopped pecan pieces.
