ASIANS- Be cautious and research if you’re thinking of getting IPL treatments I was happy with my first 2 treatments but then after my 3rd treatment some new spots showed up and some spots that were already there got darker. Maybe if I continued having treatments the spots might have eventually gotten lighter but that would take time and a lot of money. So I was left with my skin looking worse than before I had the IPLs! Fraxel laser treatment is another treatment I would pass on. Generally speaking Asians and other darker skinned people are more at risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after laser treatments. I wish I knew this before my treatments

If you’re asian with olive skin stay away from IPL. My sister and I had great results with our first couple of treatments. Basically your dark spots get crispy and fall off like scabs but return after a few months. After our third treatments (they increase the intensity of your treatments), we noticed patches of dark spots appearing where there were none before. It’s been a couple of years and the new dark spots (patches) caused by IPL are still there. Surprisingly my original dark spots have faded, almost disappearing completely. I’ve been using various brightening serums but the key was adding a glycolic peel mask to my weekly routine.

He forgot to mention an important thing which is on top of using creams or other treatments to brighten your skin, you must use sunscreen at all time, whether it is sunny or it rains. Sunscreen is the key to protect your skin and achieve results.

My mother used to say, "When you get old, your skin sprouts weeds." Now I'm at that age and boy, she was right! It seems lately every day is a new surprise. As an adult, I've always avoided the sun, but like you mentioned, I was in the sun a lot as a child and it's showing. I'm light skinned but have a quarter-sized melasma right in the middle of my forehead which embarrasses me so much. I was thinking maybe a light colored tattoo would work if nothing else would, though I first have to win the lottery even for that. Thank you so much, Dr. Youn, for your very interesting information!

I found this serum called the Princess Skin Brightening & Rejuvenating Serum treatment and this lady used it in conjunction with her hyperpigmentation routine for melasma. I was on reddit forums for melasma and a lady recommended it. It's freaking amazing, no irritation or smell. I love it. She said it helps lighten it up her melasma alot.

@@nooneatall5485 I too have freckles above my lip and now with the wrinkles there too, it does look like a moustache! I hate it. I try to hide with foundations,but makes it look worse.I have Scottish DNA and don’t mind the light sprinkling of freckles on my upper cheeks, but I have a couple of patches at my hairline near my right temple. I do try to hide with foundation and my haircut. I bought the liquorice extract but when I got it, it was brown in colour! I was afraid to put it on my already brown spots! I had tried dabbing lemon juice also. I also saw a comment that someone used white vinegar and it worked immediately. Sounds doubtful, but will give it a try. I also switched my moisturizer fto a better quality- Olay with Hyaluronic acid,peptides and SPF 30 AND to Revlon skin-caring foundation 5% squaline Hyaluronic acid #109 for my ivory skin.I also bought a “Stilla” cream blusher & lip stick“. I used powdered blush for 60 yrs! So basically, I have gotten rid of all the flat,Matt makeup and going for a dewy,more youthful look. It does really help. Let me know if you find something that works well for our lip area! Cheers! 🧑🏻🦰🇨🇦

Because of the damage done in my youth, the spots on my face turned up in my 50’s. Common spots are from the car windows or any windows in fact. I had to go to the dermatologist to have series of chemical peels to lighten the spots and other damage to my skin. Last year @ 59 I had skin cancer, regardless at what age the damage will come to the surface. I use sun screen everyday wait 5 to 10 minutes put on moisturizer then daily treatments. Sunscreen 1st no matter before going outside. If I could turn the clock I would take my parents advice, too late now. How to look younger stay out of the direct sun.❤️😊

@angiesplaylist23 Жыл бұрын
The rash probably compromised your skin so when skin rubs against itself, it can cause irritation and then hyperpigmentation

I agree that sun spots are from those younger years where people were baking themselves in the sun by the pool. My sister did that and she’s a few years younger but now has so many spots that I don’t have. I have always gotten only minimal sun exposure plus I always wear a large brim hat when outdoors.
@UCanHaveHim Жыл бұрын
My dad is in his 70's and stays in the sun because of his work. He has no spots. I've always stayed inside most of the time and I have hyperpigmentation and a few mole like marks on the side of my face. I have dark underarms too which changes from really light to really dark and I don't know why. I never expose my arms above the elbow and I never wear shorts. When I exercise and it's sunny, my jaws have dark patchy spots but when I stay inside a day or two, they disappear 🤷
@safirog1226 Жыл бұрын
If you have sensitive skin and shave your underarms they will darken. I’ve solve that problem by waxing instead of shaving. You can al swipe your underarms with the Ordinary Glycolic Acid and that will keep the discoloration under control.
