“Room 714, I’ll be waiting.” Rick James was referencing the drug methaqualone or brand name Quaalude. The drug was manufactured in the United States under the name Quaalude with the number 714 stamped on the tablet. Quaaludes became popular for recreational use in the late 1960s and 1970s in discos - where they were known as “disco biscuits” - and in juice bars. It is a central nervous system depressant that acts as a sedative and hypnotic. Hypnotics are drugs that induce sleep.

There was a huge controversy with this song because Mc Hammer sampled this song in his song can’t touch this and never got permission so Rick James brought a law suit against him but it was settled out of court Mc Hammer had to pay Rick James royalties worth millions

Charlie Murphy had some great stories about Rick James. Both were legends.

M.C. Hammer "sampled" (i.e. lifted it) without permission. After a suite by James, Hammer gave credits to Rick James and all was good again.

You should watch Lip Sync Battle where Jason Derulo for 1 of his 2 songs was "Super Freak" & Katherine McPhee, who got started in her career after she was on American Idol, & for 1 of her songs she performed was Jason Derulo's song "Want To Want Me". Their performances were really good. Sorry can't remember the season or episode. And another really good 1 was w/Justin Bieber & Deion Sanders. So I would love to see ur reaction on those 2 episodes 2.

it's the 80s or 90s... I like how that's the excuse for a lot of older bands, but that's the truth if it wasn't the 70s than it's either the 80s or the 90s... (*I'm giggling as I type this.) So take it or leave it. He also did drugs so not much different from todays artist. YOu are now starting to see that this song might be about groupies
