I’m so happy to have found this channel! You’re so disarming that the hawkers let you enter and film inside the tiny stalls, all in 4K glory. I’ve never managed to get a taste of Shima and Lucky because the queues are always so long lol. I have to tell you, I’m your new fan 😍

Thank u for taking so much time and effort to video and edit... so that everyone is able to experience and feel Singapore's hawker culture and even educate our own people. Many youngsters nowadays prefer aircon restaurants snd food courts over the hawker centres that houses most of the gems and wonderful dishes and culture of Singapore. Me and my family love watching your videos. Please don't stop! U are very talented in capturing the essence of the culture. Decades down the road this can be history videos to show how it was like in the past! Great job!
@Piggypuggy

Thank you Sujun 😊 and you got the reason why I started doin this. I’ve gotten to this age that Im a little sentimental that many of the old hawkers I knew had slowly faded away. These are hawkers who have toiled their entire lives to bring us the simple joys. I was also worried that our hawkers will disappear within a decade as there are not many young blood willing to take over. Some are slowly taken over by larger corporations and mass produced.. as you said.. many of our younger generation prefer aircon restaurants and eateries.. I’m guilty of that too.. so if we don’t create awareness of our Hawker centres and our hawkers. Our heritage will soon be a thing of the past that’s lost to the ever changing social habits

Piggy Puggy, you did it again! Another excellent video! 👍👏It is hard work and you managed to do it so well everytime, with good content, very clear images at different angles and how you can even maneuver around quickly without getting in the way. Yes, I can imagine how much patience you must have plus humility to do what you do, plus all the effort in editing to give us viewers your perfect content. Can't imagine those customers were complaining about your videotaping, difficult these days to find compassion and empathy. Well, you get A Big Thank You from me!👍 I like the Holland area. I guess everybody's favorite is that Malay stall Shima's kitchen. Wow, that super woman, making 40 dishes everyday! I always love Malay food as they are really authentic and delicious. Kuehs are my favorite. The blue one with coconut on top, Kueh Pulut Inti is one of my favorites. The Indian stall's dum briyani looks amazing too. How they could even cook such a giant pot of basmati rice and have it turn out so fluffy and not stick to the pot. Love every stall you featured in this video. Hats off to hawkers, they are the best!!! Thanks Piggy Puggy....enjoy your remaining weekend.😁😊🤣

Thank you 🙏 😊 Thank you Thank you 😊😊😊 there are days where I need to feel good to do this 😌 and get the ball rolling. But actually.. it’s a life learning experience to see such heroes in action. I can feel it from the Humility from the Malay family cooking. The patience of the kway chap ladies. And many others who are willing to chat with me for a minute about the history.. I see also sad scenarios.. very old hawkers falling asleep as their stalls that sells curry rice. I wasn’t sure to help feature them or not. I see proud hawkers too.. so many kinds of people around us. I also believe mental health and stress is becoming a very real problem for some as I noticed many stalls are closed more often.. haha.. thanks again for your support 🥰 🥰🥰 always makes my day how much details you can get of each video.. wish you a Beautiful Sunday ahead. Oh.. that Nonya kueh stall is a gem! It’s soooo good.. looks can be deceiving

@@Piggypuggy You set out to do this with important goals in mind, primarily to help create awareness for hawkers in S'pore, to demonstrate your appreciation and support for them, etc. besides providing entertainment for viewers like us. It is also important to always have compassion and empathy. We both know that if we ever have to walk a mile in the hawker's shoe, we won't survive, at least I know I would not last. Re those sad scenarios, my sister and I see that all the time and unlike others, we buy something from them to make their day. When you put a smile in someone's face, it warms the heart and is priceless. Even when they have no business, all it takes is for someone to believe in them to give them hope. On occasions, we were pleasantly surprised that the food was not bad despite those reviews. So, you never know, it is all subjective. This is what compassion is all about and you sure have that plus your respect for seniors and old time hawkers. Never change that nor take anything for granted in life. When there is despair, let there be hope and it is always fun to hear you chatting with the hawkers. It is a very tough life. Everything else is going up in price except hawker food. It was a very busy week but I also managed to view your previous Empress market/food center video as well. Take care and until the next video...be safe.😊

The Kolo Mee Char Siew slices has reduced by about 30% as I've eaten this stall consistently about 5 months!!! The meat is rather dry but now with lesser slices which I hope is temporary maybe due to increased pork prices, I hope they give the same decent amount as 1 - 2 months ago in due time ! Seems prices of Char Siew, Roast Pork have risen...But Cheng Heng Kway Chap still gives same amounts as usual ! Are those hawkers trying to make up losses because of restrictions on dine in Twos etc which have reduced their customer numbers ? This has been the scenario in Singapore hawkers normally cut down on amounts given when meat, vegetables prices goes up but later when prices are back down to normal some still continue to give lesser amounts!
@Piggypuggy
@Piggypuggy 2 жыл бұрын
Really ah?pork prices will always fluctuate.. stalls should not reduce ingredients coz of temporary rise in commodity price. next time you ask the uncle why now less slices.. 😜 see what he says.. tell him, as long time customer.. you noticed the change. 😅

The hakka noodles and that kolo mee yong tau fu are both great in their own ways. Always wanted to try that Malay stal but too long queue lah. Even the chinese dessert stall near the Malay stall there is nice too. So is the soya bean drink stall and drinks stall. There's a stall that sells Penang fried kuey tiao and various kueys also quite nice...the list goes on LOL The claypot stall though seems to be not as nice as the first time I tried them. Haizt.. hope he managed to enjoy his lunch.. but doubt so.. coz I could see him glancing at me even while eating his kway chap 😅 hope he takes it easier in life. Sometimes a small disagreement can easily blow up into something unpleasant if one chooses to harp on it.. ✌🏼

alot of old people is like that, refuse to listen and accept any other ideas beside his own. As if his single order can support the stall. As if the whole world is up against him. Have you done honglim food center before? There alot of nice food stalls - unfortunately most only open for lunch crowd only.

@@acetoh5520 😄 old but yet full of fire in them to grumble. Ok laa.. if he had met a younger person.. it'd turn into another unnecessary ugly scene that we sometimes see at the hawker centres. Hong Lim was one of the initial hawker centres invisited.. I only covered individual stalls there. Like the famous CKT and Curry Chicken Noodles and the Zi Char.. haven't done a holistic one before...it can be quite difficult there as the business hour really focus on that 2hr lunch window.. so sometimes not too condusive to bother them during that 2hrs. After that.. it's all zzz.. 😅

Approximately how many hawker/food centers are in Singapore%?
@Piggypuggy
@Piggypuggy 2 жыл бұрын
Hundred over hawkers under National Environment Agency.. some are smaller in size. They’ve been set up around the late 70s to remove all the street hawkers completely. The newer estates does not have such Hawker centres. They now have privately run coffee shops (usually under Housing blocks) which have around 8 stalls

What does "QQ" mean? I hear it used often by Chinese people.
@catherinehui795
@catherinehui795 2 жыл бұрын
In Cantonese it means 'bouncy', noodle is not soggy, has a bite to it. The sound is 'chooi chooi', like 'crispy' texture.

I’m also not sure what QQ is.. I first heard of it on Taiwanese shows.. the kept using the word QQ to describe.. I thought it’s more towards having a chewy texture and a bite to it
@acetoh5520

egg and akaline.. that the main thing that affect the texture of the noodles beside the flour. i think QQ can maybe use al dente to describe .. as NOT soggy and all clump together like a ball

I googled more into it and found out it's what Taiwanese hokkien term calls it.. Qiuu Qiuu.. like chewy.. Here's what Michellin guide described it as: The term originated from Taiwan, where Q sounds similar to the local word for “chewy”, but it's evolved to mean a little more than that. The Asian version of al-dente, QQ foods are soft but not mushy - they must offer some resistance to the bite. Just as Ace Toh described it to be.. Al Dente

Billion dollar global insight to max profits and charity donations via monetisation in anime, real life, movies, gaming or thesis. Problem where full 8 to 12 hours of full time hawker labour (e.g. repetitive muscle stress and injuries from cooking) cause many older and elderly experienced hawkers or chefs to leave the industry. Why not retain the experienced chefs by using corporate human resource systems by respectfully communicating to the hawkers (respect to elders is important in Asian cultures), that they can cook for 4 hours, then spend rest of the days (not limited to own hawker stalls, e.g. float around to nearby hawker stalls) to work as cashiers, cleaners or trainers of other hawkers? This adds variety, expand their social circle, slow down injuries, reduce pain and suffering and max quality of life. Hawker chefs are not the best at networking, socialising or business or marketing minded.
