Holley 1945 Carburetor rebuild Part 3 1982 Dodge B250 225 slant six

An overview of the basic adjustments on a Holley 1945 single barrel Carburetor. After cleaning and rebuilding the carburetor with a new carb kit consisting of gaskets, valves and other wear items I continue to deal with warm up and off idle hesitation. As well some of the specific timing and tune up specifics on my 1982 Dodge B250 Van with a slant six.

Thunderhead289, who does 4 barrel Holleys, says accelerator pump hole number 1 is for more fuel and hole #2 is for less fuel, and since these smog motors generally stumble off the line because they don't have enough accelerator pump, then it sounds like hole number 1 is better unless under strict emissions requirements and are tolerant of stumble. He also got 45 mpgs out of a v8 Maverick using a lawnmower carb and a 3d printed manifold, and I think his secret is essentially vacuum advance as he always has vacuum.

These emission carbs all stumble off the line due mostly to not enough accelerator pump, on top of very lean jets and idle mixture and power valve, but I think the easiest fix is the accelerator pump. I could not quite read your accelerator pump adjustment instructions from your rebuilding guide on my computer screen, especially can I get more accelerator pump just by bending that U shaped rod in the linkage???? and if so, which way? My other option might be to drill a "hole 3" farther from the throttle shaft center pivot to generate more motion in the pump. I'm not a speed freak and so can tolerate a slight stumble, but not as much as I am getting and no stalling when I suddenly floor it off idle.

Thats wild, thats a van? engine in your lap? badass, i found a 87 pickup with a junk title last year, scavanged all the parts and put them in a 47 1 ton, just got it running , driving, man i love that slant 6, when its warmed up it just fires up one stroke of key, bought new 1945 carb, thanks for info, hoping to figure out how to use the fast idle set up to get it running right at first start up, thanks again for posting vid

My ''82 W-150 with 225 and 4 speed is in pretty poor condition and I don't even know how many times the odometer has rolled over; either 1 or 2. I noticed that for some reason, under some conditions, the lean burn computer will actually reverse the vacuum advance and do vacuum retard, I think for NOx reasons. I love vacuum advance and installed a second module on my distributor from an older junker and run both, though until I lubed the breaker plate with graphite just recently, I don't think it was working. So I am running both the computer vacuum advance and the second one on the distributor, but don't knock due to low compression and have a jerry rigged water injector set up if I ever did, using a control valve on the dash from a fish tank air bleeder. When I got the truck, the idle mixture screw was plugged over so I pried out the plug and finally managed to see in there to see it was an Allen head and not a flat head like most. I can reduce the stumble with a rich idle and high idle speed, but I want a greener way with more accelerator pump.
