Great video. I’m planning on doing this to my 66 396 El Camino. This hit all the right issues I felt I would run into. I did read the comments. And I’m glad to hear I may not need the return fuel line. And the temp sensor should be on the intake. I’ll take that as lesson learned. I wish you had discussed the performance before and after. Also. When the motor was running and driving you should have cut the music. Otherwise great video. Thanks.

Hey thanks! For sure the video wasn’t perfect, but we tried to show a good step by step. I guess thats what the comments are for! People chiming in on different ways to do things, hopefully it helps others as well. Hope your El Camino upgrade goes well!

I think folks just set at a different position in the 60s. The steering wheel is way closer to you is the big thing versus a newer car.

great video. well edited. went ahead and sub'd for some more. btw, you can just go "set static timing" and it'll lock the timing to whatever you set while on that screen. you'll wanna set to something you can read easily on the balancer.. i usually do multiple to be 100% across a few RPM ranges in case you have to adjust dwell/delay. and the other dude was right, it says on the product page for that pump - Fuel pressure is internally regulated to 58 psi eliminating the added expense and effort of purchasing and installing an external fuel pressure regulator - no separate return line is required because this module returns excess fuel right inside the tank!

Wow good to know! Thanks for the insight and info. Hopefully your comment helps someone not spend the time running a return haha

You know with that fuel pump module you don’t need a fuel return line, it has one built in. There is also an easier way to check base timing.

When we called the tech before ordering this pump, we were told it needed a return line, maybe this wasn’t true then.

Have the same style unit in my nova. Self regulated no return line. Works absolutely perfect.
@jrod66

@thruitallauto2538 actually a return line heats the fuel. More line and friction from tank to motor back tank. One of the few reasons why most new LS motors have no return line

If you’re going racing Holley is way to go. For daily or weekend driver Edelbrock Pro Flo 4 far superior. Easier. Constant tweaking not needed like Sniper. Can be tuned quite extensively but not like Holley. Pick depending upon how much you want to mess with it and type of driving.

"1-10" after the collector", you say? that's weird, because my instructions say 6-10" lol.. i feel like someone drilled the hole before double checking and y'all just went with it lol. it'll probably work just fine. if anything you won't get a good blend of all 4 tubes. also, that clamp thing that comes with the sniper is trash.. throw it away and never use it.

I don't understand why they need a tube on the return line fitting , they are not sucking fuel out you are putting it in . ???
@kelleys81
@kelleys81 Жыл бұрын
That looked like a Holley retrofit pump you installed which does not need a return as it should do all the work itself as far as pressure regulation.
@Retroformance

Thanks for the feedback. Interestingly, when we called Holley and asked about this pump before ordering, the tech told us we needed a return line to use with this system. And the instructions with the kit also mentioned needing to add a return line. 🤷🏽‍♂️

My left ear got all the info but the right feels a little left out. Your return line Does not need a tube going to the bottom of the tank.🤣 It just needs to make it to the tank. gravity will do the rest. Your temp sensor I would argue is in the wrong location. Too close to the exhaust. electronics do not like being that close to that much heat. You are trying measuring the water temp, not the exhaust port on the head. Why not put in on the intake on a water jacket plug? Otherwise good video.
@Retroformance
@Retroformance Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. And you are right! Honestly I can't remember why I put it in that location. This video was done on the side over a month and a half. Looking back, I can't remember. So far it hasn't been an issue.

Any problems with the Sniper off camera? I've seen other videos with people having problems with the sniper and having to return it to Holley for an exchange or they just end up putting a carburetor back on.

Customer has had no complaints so far! Only thing we struggled with the car was some funky wiring separate from the Sniper. I think the car could use a new main harness, but most of the time we need to operate within the customer budget.

@@Retroformance I've done 100's of hard lines for cars! Plus I do believe that much rubber hose is not legal if you ever head to a drag strip... Kinda shows why it's never a good idea to use that much rubber hose for fuel lines.

All that work for what? You won't get any better gas mileage. All you 've done is increase the likelihood of more gremlins you'll have to haunt down when the system goes awry. And it will go awry. $2100 for system, not including installation. $3,000 down the drain. Stick with carb, save your hard earned money.
