True I just finished the game yesterday. Then went back to the great Pagoda to go to the secret boss fight ending. And then went back to the boss fight and the ending is so much better. It all ties in, from the beginning. If you did not do that, you cannot say you finished the game.

A little bit of background story regarding the headband and everything for all non-chinese players out there (POTENTIAL SPOILER) : the headband is more like a handcuff, it is used by the Tang monk to inflict pain on Wukong whenever he needs to constrain or control Wukong (by murmuring a spell that makes the band constrict). It's one of very very few things that truly terrifies Wukong and deep down Wukong hates it lot. The consensus interpretation among chinese players (not necessarily the right interpretation but may provide something to help us understand) is that the game is about a story where Wukong is literally trying to die and resurrect to get rid of the band, showing his dislike of the ruling system. By dying he, just like making horcruxes, splitted himself in to six pieces and a true heir will be able to collect all and merge into a new Wukong (not physically but spiritually, regaining all his memories and stuff). In the "true" ending, just when the old monkey is about to put that band on his head, our protagonist jerks his head away and regain all of Wukong's memory, an animation will play through Wukong's life in reverse order, starting with his first rebellion and ending with our protagonist (now essentially the same person as Wukong) embarking on a new rebellion.

😭😭😭 it is so unbelievable to think that different players takes this ending so differently. Some think it’s a crown and cheers while the others know this is a constrain on the monkey king and it’s against his free will, which makes them sad see wukong not able to break free. This is insane. But loved this gameplay. Love all ur commentary and taking detours, showing us the views and not skipping meditation. It’s been great seeing you play. I’m gonna miss this. ❤️

bro, this is not over yet. There are multiple endings. Wukong wearing the golden ring is no longer the Wukong who symbolizes freedom and resistance to heaven. Wukong wants to get rid of the golden ring on his head and no longer be controlled by the high official of heaven, Guanyin Bodhisattva (the head ring is a magic weapon that can never be taken off after wearing it. The immortal wearing the head ring will cast the magic spell of the head ring on you, and you will have a headache and lose your combat effectiveness). So Wukong got rid of the head ring by death. The player inherits the destiny, fights the BOSS and gets the 6 roots of Wukong from the BOSS, understands the cause of Wukong's death, and gets a brand new Wukong without the golden ring on his head, rebels against heaven, and is no longer controlled.

That "crown" is a special "weapon" for restricting Wukong. During his journey to west with his mentor, whenever he was naughty, his mentor would activate this crown which would cause Wukong having severe headache and kind of disabling his movements.

This is not the good ending! This is the bad ending for the impatient players. After defeating all the bosses, you will have to fight Erlang Shen again then you will get this ending when the band is destroyed which indicates that Wukong is not controlled by the Buddha or Heaven. This ending gives you the true FREEDOM that Wukong has always wanted.

About the last relic: Old Monkey explained that the last relic is the Mind, a unique symbol for each creature, and that Sun Wukong's Mind already disappeared when he died. So Sun Wukong will never be resurrected, the so-called collection of relics and then coming here, is just to defeat the remnants of the Great Sage and to prove that you are the destined one, and strong enough to inherit the title of sunwukong. The sixth relic is the mind of the chosen one after defeating the remnants of the Great Sage, a unique “relic” that comes from us. The gold band is just a symbol, tho i personal think its a fetter (not sure if the right word to use), that gold band "Jīn gū" and fetter "Jìn gù" looks very similar, cuz at begin its used to restricte and punishe sunwukong, but sunwukong then became a Buddha, so the name was changed to the nice sound Golden Band.

Where you were going before ending chapter 6 is where you are meant to go after chapter 6 for the true ending.

It's truly astonishing how many people beat this game and still completely misunderstood the ending. The Wukong you play as IS Wukong. The "destined one" IS WUKONG. The one that you fight at the end is a shell of the prior Sun Wukong that he left behind to test his reincarnation before ascending. The "Destined One" is not a clone or a fake. He is Wukongs being, reincarnated with a clean slate so he can cast off the binds that the celestials placed on him in his prior life. The Wukong that you see die in the beginning of the game is no less a reincarnation than the one you play as throughout the game. The entire premise of Wukong is that he's eternal and reincarnates several times and reaches immortality several times. There's no real or fake Wukong, JUST WUKONG. The old man spells most of it out for you and you still don't get it.

The headband is not a crown but more like a curse. If you put it on, you'd go back to the samasara circle as the end CG shows. That's why this is a bad ending and you need to beat Yangjian in the secret area which you were already there to break free.

In this ending Wuking didn’t overcome “destiny”. If you find Erlang Shen and win the epic fight against him, another true ending will be unlocked. Wukong will break the so called “destiny” planned by the heaven and be freed
