been looking forward to this! these streams convinced me to play hypnospace outlaw for myself, and it's turned into one of my favorite games, and holly's extremely thorough playstyle is perfect for this game, since there's so many tiny worldbuilding details that you can easily miss!

honestly!! the interaction between father fungus and iciclekid (around 3:37:50) actually made me cry a bit. i was never really in that kid's shoes when i was young. i've always been big on encouraging young artists, but never really understood what they might feel beyond 'hey it must be cool right?' hypnospace really captured that feeling of like.. what it might actually be to a kid to have someone you look up to validate your work? idk, i could be looking too hard into it BWL. look after young artists, they r important. :')

@@bazooka544 I share the same feeling, and it's so refreshing to see Holly sincerely appreciate those very genuine manifestations of creativity. That and the sense of community that so many corners of this game have

Yeah, you put the Coolpunk stuff together pretty quickly. I think you pretty much got it, but here's the whole story, chronologically: A couple years ago (c. 1998), Ray Dolan (alias "Fre3zer") creates the first songs that would birth the "coolpunk" genre. They're wildly popular, and this gets him a recording deal with Esotonic Records. Fre3zer does more great work, and this gets Esotonic's Founder and CEO Marc Elo excited. Elo's marketing know-how can make Fre3zer and coolpunk _big,_ and Fre3zer's sampling of old Gray's Peak Cola ads and jingles means he can probably get the soda company to help out. This big success actually poses a problem. Fre3zer's both a total recluse _and_ genuinely only in it for the art. He's not into the idea of performing on stage or posing for photo-ops with men dressed like cartoon snowmen. Elo succeeds at birthing the coolpunk movement, comprised mostly of excited, cola-fueled teens making their own coolpunk music, which aficionados consider to be almost _exclusively_ awful or at least extremely derivative knock-offs of Fre3zer's masterworks. At some point during this growth, Fre3zer and Elo have a big fight, and Elo uses the fact that Fre3zer's never been seen in public (along with some legal sleight-of-hand, no doubt) to yank the genre and even the _name_ out from under him. Elo then arranges for the _new_ Fre3zer, Jan Wolf, to make his first big, live, on-stage debut at Coolfest '99, which turns out to be a nightmare for about a dozen different reasons. Wolf, unlike Dolan, is _not_ an artist, and can't work the synthesizers and voice modulators, at least not well enough to be convincing. It's arranged for him to lip-synch instead. Something goes wrong, the ruse is discovered, and the fanbase turns on both "Fre3zer" and the genre as a whole. Meanwhile, while coolpunk is still growing, Ray Dolan takes on a new name, Father Fungus, and begins developing and growing a new genre, the "Fungus Scene", partly to get back to making music for music's sake and partly to strike back at the monster he had a hand in creating. He assembles a band of eager disciples (admittedly with _wildly_ varying degrees of actual talent and understanding of the genre) and, as of late November 1999, is poised to squeeze into the vacuum left behind by coolpunk's overnight evaporation.

Hypnospace has so many moments of small poetry (both figurative and literal) and Holly is the best one to read these moments out to us. Also a lot of good cackles 2:26:20 _you can see the cursor drift over to it for a sec and hover momentarily_ 2:44:15 also steveguy moment

According to Holly's twitter she streamed part five 2 days ago, but it's not on her twitch, did it get VODmuted or is it just being saved for the vod channel?
