If they had left out everything from the surveillance to the killings and hostage taking of Cindy, I could have agreed with you. But as it is, Milo have stuck out as a serious mental disorder from when we learned his motive for moving in with the Cunningham. He did so not to protect them, but feel part of a utopia image of a family he had formed himself. And when he realized the Cunninghams didn`t live up to that image, he began campaigns against the members of the family he felt to be the core of the problem. To even get such an idea is totally crazy - but to try to change the family by "taking out" threats to it is absolutely insane.

Not the best editing in this stunt if you pause it at the right time you can see there is no one under the car. Obviously I know thy don't actually crush the actor but they usually have a stunt double or a green screen so they are still there

Rachel Roberts/Fern Alderton Because of the height the car was dropped from, it wouldn`t have been safe to have any actual person close enough for it to look like the car crushed them. That can be done with something like a car hitting someone, having the person supposedly hit just jump when the car passes in the lane besides. Which again can be mixed with a shot from inside a standing car, and the actor supposed to be hit just jumping onto the bonnet while the camera is in motion towards the windscreen inside the car - creating the impression both the car and the person hit impacted each other at speed. But for a fall of a car hanging in the air like this, a number of things can go wrong. Wind can alter the direction the car will fall, or cause it to tilt in the fall, and maybe roll over or roll away after impacting the ground - making it very dangerous for anyone to be close to where the car is supposed to land. Or worse case scenario - despite attempted secured in every way before the drop - the car breaks into parts at impact, causing debris to fly all over the place. It is also possible Hollyoaks neglected to include a dummy to be crushed, because of the pre-watershed airing time of Hollyoaks, and that is also why they didn`t do more to make it visible someone was crushed under the car? As a stunt, this drop looked near perfect. The car was in balance, landed flat in one piece without moving, tipping over or releasing dangerous debris. So as a stunt it was very well executed. As a storyline development, I was less impressed.

Fern Alderton That is one way of looking at it. But it could be, because of the pre-watershed airing time, they had to shoot the scene like this - if not it had been deemed too violent for the early evening time slot. Also the whole idea of a car suddenly falling down like that, because the top loop of the harness snapped, is not realistic. Not with the insignificant weight of a tiny little Vauxhall Nova (Opel Corsa).

Fern Alderton You are right about the Cindy thing. But if I have understood correctly not even blood can be shown much of pre-watershed. Just look at the scene where Kim was shot. There was so little blood there, I first thought the bullet had missed her, and that she just had fainted. Personally this scene with the Vauxhall classify as a gruesome death to me. I think it has to do with the background and experience you have on the matter? For people who have watched horror movies like Saw and similar, this probably wasn`t much of a big deal. But for my aunt and cousin who were inside a car in a severe crash, and had to be cut out from the wreckage, the scene with Cindy being trapped, probably could have given them some unpleasant flashbacks? I also think those who mostly associate horrible deaths with what they have seen on film and tv have a different understanding of it, and way to relate to it, than those who knows it from real life - either professionally or as a traumatic event in their life. Personally, when I saw Mission Impossible - Fallout, I didn`t think of it as particularly violent, in the more than ordinary action fighting type stuff. But two of the women I watched it with, found it extremely violent. It has to be added that they normally don`t watch action movies - the only reason they wanted to see Fallout was because parts of it (the latter part of the Kashmir segment - on the cliff) was filmed in Norway (an attraction called the Pulpit - a steep cliff with a fjord called Lysefjorden underneath). In regard to tv violence, though, I think too much of the focus is on scenes, and not enough focus is on how the characters` personality flaws or unlawful acts/violent behavior over time influences the viewers, and especially the youngest of them. Personally I am convinced seeing characters like Glenn, Darcy and more - again and again - commit both unlawful and immoral acts and get away with it will influence young impressionable minds more than a single violent scene, clip with nudity or word of profanity would. I also think that if viewers had seen what the inside of the train really had looked like after Grace shot Eva Falco, fewer viewers would have cheered over the death of Eva and her and Liam`s unborn baby. But because it was camouflaged, and more looked like she was sleeping, than had been shot. And I also think Hollyoaks shouldn`t include scenes of a nature that cannot be shown authentically. So in that respect I must agree with you. This scene either should have been more realistic - or not included at all.

But I know your name from many previous comments, and know we also have been om the same threads from time to time. But if we talked about the gay characters... I am searching my mind, and as far as I can remember I was involved in a discussion related to the gay characters in Hollyoaks contra other soaps at one point. Am I right in thinking someone claimed Hollyoaks had been the first to introduce gay characters, and I pointed out both Casualty and Eastenders had done so before Hollyoaks even premiered?
