If Ste should torment him an eventual confession would not have been admissible as evidence - perhaps have prevented the police from having a case against Ryan altogether, since any confession Ryan had made after he had been tormented could be seen to have been a direct consequence of the torment, and for that reason would have been unsafe. So unless the police managed to find other evidence to prove Ryan killed Amy and more, they could have a challenge on their hands getting him convicted. Both Kim and Tegan`s claims he confessed to having killed Amy could be questioned, since Tegan could have claimed as much as revenge for having discovered Ryan and Ste were having an affair. With Kim being her colleague, and also having a past living in the attic of the Osbornes` without an invitation, a claim she had hid in the school of her own volition, only to claim Ryan had kidnapped her to help Tegan get revenge over Ryan, could have been tough to disprove, all the time Kim had been sealed in by Glenn`s people, after they had removed the chain Ryan had placed on the door. I am personally fairly certain I would have managed to create enough reasonable doubt for Ryan not to be convicted. But I am also equally sure he should be sent to a mental institution for therapy, since he imposes a potential threat to anyone he is around, as long as his irrational fear of being found out to be gay, has not been dealt with properly. So I think I would have attempted to persuade him to go for an insanity plea. But had he rejected that idea, I would have had a law obligated duty to the best of my ability to defend him and his claim of innocence, by trying to establish reasonable doubt and by pointing out the lack of evidence, and attacking those few evidence there was.

If Ste didn`t love Ryan, why would he up his family and move them all to Brazil on one day notice? Sorry, but that wouldn`t have made sense, had he not loved Ryan. You must factor in that all this is just spoken lines by actors, and story lines created for the sole purpose of getting high ratings. And as such the story line can either appear to be true to life - or far off from how things are in the real world. And the Amy Barnes killing definitely belongs in the latter category, since it doesn`t reflect neither police procedures, legal issues, forensic issues or forensic medical issues anywhere close to how it would have been in the real world. But what is even worse is how the show cuts corners to hype the drama in a direction which doesn`t logically springs from the character or story line in question. Like here now, when Glenn - because Hollyoaks needed Ste to get control over Ryan - gave Glenn the exit line suggesting killing a young mother was beneath him, just to get Glenn out of the way. But from what we have seen in other scenes with Glenn, however, such moral scruples appears to be well out of character for him. Just by observing how he has treated his own partner and sons, I think it is clear to all of us, that if Amy had been a threat or potential problem to Glenn, he wouldn`t have hesitated getting her killed - maybe would even end Leah and Lucas too, had there been a risk they knew something of what their mother knew which Glenn feared could come out. But by giving Glenn a line like that Hollyoaks paints out Ryan to be a more sinister and dangerous monster than what Glenn is. Despite Ryan crimes, in the eyes of the law, were impulsive acts, and always motivated by the same irrational fear his life would be in ruins, should he be identified to be gay. But because Ryan lives in a tiny village where there are many gays and lesbians, compared to the size of the village, his fear his life would be ruined clearly must be described as irrational. Therefore in the real world, his defense barrister likely would have argued the irrational fear in him to have taken control over him when he committed his three major crimes (killed Amy, placed Tegan in a coma and kidnapped Kim), and therefore he cannot be held legally responsible for his actions, cause he was temporarily insane at the time he did them. This also is supported by the fact that even though his three original crimes were impulsive and very poorly planned and executed, his attempts to not be caught afterwards have been both calculated and well thought through. Suggesting the irrational fear to be only thing wrong with Ryan, and that when he was his conscious self he was neither violent nor impulsive. So the fact his actions when committing the crimes were the exact opposite, supports a conclusion he was temporarily insane when he did that. Glenn, on the other hand, is a completely different type of person. He hasn`t temporarily lost his mind when he decides to kill someone, for him it is a very rational decision which doesn`t leave him with any sleepless nights. In his eyes people who isn`t capable of killing those who come int their way for whatever reason, are weak. He prides himself in his power over people, and that he has the power to kill, hurt or manipulate just about anyone he pleases. Glenn is a psychopath. Those are very difficult to "cure." Ryan, on the other hand - now that the fact that he is gay is out - would be fairly easy to treat. A few session of therapy, and he would likely be complete safe to let back into society. But should he be convicted as murderer and kidnapper and just sent to prison, his irrational fear would still have been a risk factor, both when he was in prison and after he was released. So the question this story line should have raised, is it right to convict someone for something they neither had intended, nor wanted, to do - jus as if they should have done it consciously and with intent? Or should the fact the MO strongly suggested they were not themselves at the moment in time they committed the crimes - and this because an irrational fear had taken control over their actions and mind, making them commit irrational criminal acts on impulse and without rational motives, weigh more when deciding on a verdict? After all, should someone get a heart attack behind the wheel of a car, and the car ends up killing a group of people in another car, or inside a bus shelter, the heart attack is considered to be a random health issue - and therefore the deaths would be found to be a tragic accident. But if you recklessly drive a car - either speeding, over the limit or the car isn`t in proper technical condition - you are likely to face manslaughter charges, should the same happen. Leading us to the question, should Ryan - who only committed crimes when he feared his gay secret was about to come out, and this triggered responses in him he wasn`t able to control - be judged equally strict to say if Glenn had killed Amy, placed Tegan in coma and kidnapped Kim to consciously and calculatingly prevent them from revealing him to be a drug lord? Shouldn`t there be a clear divide between acts committed with full intent and which were pre-planned; and with clear rational motives - to those committed impulsively, without any plan - and where the perpetrator doesn`t have any influence over the action as it happens, and only has very strange and irrational motives for the acts?

Finally the truth is out and what Harry shouldn't slap Amy in the first place, the prison might changes him ... and I hope that he and Ste won't be back together the second Harry is out! Syonan To It is the story line which is crap. Had the circumstances around Amy`s death been as we have had them served in the episodes, the only killer that would make logical sense would have been Armstrong. Why? Because unless he killed Amy - or knew who killed Amy and tried to protect that person - it doesn`t make any sense he should frame Ste for Amy`s death by feeding him all Ste needed to know for his confession to sound genuine, by either telling Ste or showing him crime scene photos - revealing information the police normally would have kept to themselves to be able to separate false confessions from true ones. Just think about it for a second, had Ste killed Amy, he wouldn`t have needed Armstrong to feed him the info of how Amy died, for his confession to sound credible - it would just have been a question of how long it would take Armstrong to make him confess, and represent his version of what happened that night. So the fact Armstrong fed Ste the info necessary to make a believable confession can only mean that Armstrong knew for a fact Ste was not guilty of having killed Amy. And since Ryan at one point, after having found out Ryan had a history of stalking blonds, confronted Armstrong with whether he killed Amy, and Armstrong pleadingly begged to be believed when he claimed he didn`t, it is obvious he didn`t knew Ryan to be Amy`s killer either. Consequently Hollyoaks have created a whodunit with serious logical breaches to it. Cause since Armstrong didn`t know someone else killed Amy, the only logical reason for him to frame Ste by feeding him all that was needed for a convincing confession, was if Armstrong had killed Amy himself and needed a scapegoat. Hollyoaks has managed to create a story line where logic early on excludes anyone but Armstrong to could have killed Amy - but later on just decided to make Ryan the killer instead, and the whole whodunit collapsed like a house of cards. Cause neither the cause of death (early on said to have been a blow to the head) nor the time line since, despite Ryan was with his father-in-law in a club first, and with Kyle later, and therefore had alibis for the entire time Ste visited Amy, and was prosecuted for having killed her - meaning Ryan would have had to have killed her later that night (a time Ste would have had alibis for)) - it makes little sense, the body being discovered in site, and just a few hours after she had been killed, time of death should not only be determined more exactly, but also that the autopsies neither had discovered Amy had been knocked unconscious before she later was killed, or took note of the marks there would have had to have been on Amy`s body, from how tightly Ryan held her when she was killed (or just died. Technically Harry could still be responsible for Amy`s death, if the head injury Amy sustained in her confrontation with Harry caused a tiny bleed inside her brain, which happened to kill her when Ryan held her tightly in his arms). This story line totally derailed, as a whodunit police investigation story, from the moment Ste was framed by being fed info of Amy`s death, and never got back on track after that. As a whodunit it has been absolutely nothing else than pointless rubbish of a very hard to believe and illogical kind. Ste should never have been held on remand, all the time the autopsy should have revealed - had Ryan killed her - she had been killed later that night, at a time Ste had solid alibis for. And he had, he was either in the woods phoning his dealer, his phone providing the alibi, or he was with Tony and Dianne being cleaned up. Harry should never have been arrested, since regardless how much he believed he had killed her, the marks on Amy`s body from when Ryan held her tight, had both been inflicted after the head injury, but immediately before Amy died - suggesting someone had arrived and killed Amy after Harry had left. Lastly Ryan, because the size of his arms and his height pretty easily would have suggested he had made the marks on Amy`s body, since the marks matched the size and shape of Ryan`s arms - and only his (Harry`s would have been too short and Ste too slim, to have made the marks as they had been left on Amy`s body). So either Ryan would have been discovered to be Amy`s killer within less of a month after Amy`s death, or Hollyoaks would have had to skip the nonsense idea of the Harry and Ryan combo, and gone with the only killer that made logical sense, as the story line had developed - Armstrong.
