I think it is strange and a shame that this outstanding documentary series has never been made available on dvd OR youtube. It's a classic series.

I never expected to see anything from this series again. Thank you so much! It was on one of the very few tv stations that we could get in NW Pa back in the day. I was 14 or so and just starting to realize that fantasy was going to be a major part or my reality for the rest of my life.

The series Producer/Director, Jack Haley Jr. is the son of the Tin Man (Jack Haley) from the 'Wizard of Oz'. I remember watching HatS in reruns during the weekends in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The wonderful theme has stuck with me all these years and this is the first that I've heard it in close to 40-yrs now. Brings back memories of family. Remarkable... Wish they would release the series on DVD. There were so many terrific stories that were told. Thanks for the post!

I remember watching this show being three and four and the theme has haunted me since. I’d forgotten the name of the show, and the orchestra would play it on early Academy Awards presentations as a lesser known category’s winner’s walk out music. I found the show by accident about four years ago and cried when I heard the theme song I remembered but hadn’t heard in 50 years. Some things move us, even at the tender age of four and it’s impossible to forget. move,.....

The series aired in Brazil between 1967 and 1972. And then never more. This was the series that made me fall in love for movies. Is considered the best film documentary series ever made. And I believe she was not released in other formats such as VHS or DVD, why the copyright cause played by all the major movie studios that sagged at the time the movies to the program. This series is a real lesson on the history of American cinema and world cinema.

Paul Muni was such a fantastic actor. For decades he's been compared unfavorably with Spencer Tracy but they were equally sensational, just totally different in approach.

Edward G Robinson saying 'tell him to shove it up his ---' was surprizing to hear in an old movie.

Note that the background music at poening is the same that was used in "Plan 9 from Outer Space".

"HOLLYWOOD AND THE STARS" was a "companion" series (31 episodes) that followed NBC's "MONDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES" [9:30-10pm(et)] in the 1963-'64 season. Jack Haley produced it for David L. Wolper and United Artists Television {he later produced a similar series, "THAT'S HOLLYWOOD!", for 20th Century-Fox Television in the late '70s}. This particular episode, "The Angry Screen", was originally telecast on February 6, 1964.

This series was on in the 9163-64 season, not 1967-72.

I watched THAT''S HOLLYWOOD! Tom Bosley was the narrator...and they showed the nude swimming and other scenes by Marilyn Monroe from her uncompleted final film, SOMETHING'S GOT TO GIVE. Years after that, I would see things saying that footage was lost. And I think you might mean January 6...that was a Monday. February's Mondays were 3-10-17-24. And I should know...I was born on the 10th.

Okay, it was February 3, 1964, 'tom'. I don't know how I could have made such an error...

Since then we have TV ...especially the national news ... which is swallowed hook, line and sinker. Most of us know that the internet offers a wide scope of views and we can try to differentiate who is spinning what and why. Unfortunately our kids in state schools -controlled by liberal secularism cannot make such distinctions given their young age. Too bad! But this is where you parents come into the scene. Do your duty.

22:10 the clip from a Russian anti-USA film has a catchy soundtrack that actually sounds kind of fun. Doesn't fit the nasty action on the screen.
