I love this cut! I love doing short scissor over comb on the back and sides to create this messy look but so many of my clients still want fades atm, in the UK! I’m trying to push them to these more edgy styles and less sharp lines, inspired by you 🤙🏼

I’d LOVE to see you cut the same thing on real human head. Any plans on tutorials on models in the future?

I’ve got plans to try recording in this location with a human to see if it can be done without issues. Salon chairs pivot from about a foot in front of the head, which means as the chair turns I’ve got a head that moves two and a half feet across the frame, as well as toward and away from the camera. This means I’ll need a much larger light source from above, I’ll probably have to find another way to mount my fill light below (so the chair doesn’t hit it), and I’ll have to stop cutting to refocus the camera every time I turn the chair. It might go over smoothly, and if it does I plan to record one human per week (like, I’m going to make it a recurring weekly part of my schedule) I just have to try it first. These mannequin videos have been a nice way to get my confidence up in the process, if I take ten minutes to set this up between clients then I can bang out a haircut video in a 15-20 minute gap, I want to get that efficient at recording on a human, then I’ll really be able to pump out the content.

Yeah, there are some methods people use to get softer looks out of clippers. I had a dude chop me up with an eight guard going the same direction as my hair growth and it ended up suuuuper texturized. I’ve also seen people doing clipper over comb with very widely spaced teeth, as the big gaps produce a more wavy/wobbly cut. Another method I’ve seen is to clipper over comb using a larger guard on the clipper, like a three or four guard, because the distance between the combs teeth and the clipper blade ends up long enough to introduce a lot of variation in how the hair might move while being cut (which introduces more variation in how the hair will move after its cut).

great video buds! i’ve never done one of these but i honestly would have just used a longer clipper guard and then textured after but this process will make everything finish a lot better. the music was wack haha but the commentary was 👌

Thanks. Yeah, music is tough. Can’t use anything that you don’t have a license for but to find a license for a track that’s long enough AND really good it just costs way too much money. This one was twenty bucks and this video will likely never break the ten dollar mark as far as monetization goes 😂
