Tarantino is such an anomaly of a film maker. On one hand, he fully admits from "stealing" from other movies and putting them into his own work. On the other hand, he has such a distinctive style that's instantly recognizable whenever you see it on the screen. I think that's the appeal of his movies. They're that perfect balance. They're just familiar enough to make you comfortable in your seat but just different and strange enough to challenge you and provoke thought in you.

True. But paintings is something different. Music comes a bit closer. But movies - they take a lot of time and a lot of money. Hence, you got to be very careful where to you set the balance between listening to your own vision of the movie and other peoples' objective opinions. Others opinions save you from a possible tragedy movie, but can also keep you off from making a masterpiece. So yeah, try to objectively understand where's the balance point.

@@rayhoodoo847 - Good word! These kinds of "Pursue Your Dreams at All Costs" sentiments can be disastrous. There is no glory in being stubborn towards bankruptcy in the spirit of dream-chasing. YES, people can seek to crush your dream, but NOT ALL PEOPLE. Discerning the "balance" as to when to push and when to pull back includes discerning friends who know what they are talking about or have uncanny wisdom ( i.e. insight ) vs. those who are speaking out of a Loser's or Jealous mindset. The latter are deadly, the former are life-giving.

Having worked in the film industry for years, its amazing just many people, including directors, CAN NOT explain their vision, or honestly really appear simply not to have one. Quentin realizing that being able to explain his vision being an easy process is what separates the good directors from the pretenders. If one KNOWS what they want to see, and can explain it, that person really knows they ought to be a director or writer, and that their dream, just isn't some hokey dream.

Really liking these. Ever consider doing one on Jim Henson? There's a pretty popular book called "Make Art Make Money" that distilled his success down to his laid back, humanitarian approach to his work and the gradual expansion of his brand. Really inspiring to people who want to live off of their own talents without having to compromise their own vision and creative sensibilities. Rather than trying to make the easy buck through phoned-in sponsorship, he treated commercial projects as a means of making something he enjoyed, the profit of which he would use to improve the quality of his productions and get closer to the ideas he came up with. Keep up the good work man. Good to see your channel's really been picking up steam.

+Evan Carmichael Yo I loved this video man, great stuff. If you want to reach 1 million followers though, I think you should invest in a great lavalier mic so the sound quality of your dialogue is mint. Also, be mindful of the background you stand in front of...depth is what you want. In this video, when we see you, it feels quite claustrophobic...whereas if you were standing in an area with more space behind you, it would be much more satisfying. Set design is also something to be mindful of (what's populating the frame). Just my thoughts as a filmmaker. Cheers man, keep it up!

This was a GREAT compilation of some of his best advice. And I loved the bonus moment on Django. With Underground, the Roots reboot and more, I would say the conversation we started is still going strong today. I'll add a bonus for you from Quentin - "You can argue with success, but you'll be wrong."

You can never knock him as he's got a brilliant mind but for me his films really went downhill fast after Fiction. Some love JB but it was too bland for me. The last couple also bored me and I'm a fan of him. Hateful Eight was way too long and self indulgent.
