In Amazon’s new Jack Ryan, Socialism is not to blame for Venezuela’s problems. Venezuela’s dictator is an anti-leftist nationalist. The “good” Venezuelan politician is a “social justice” advocate.
Stossel points out that “Hollywood’s documentaries also celebrate the left.”
RBG, for example, puts Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg on a pedestal.
“Justice Ginsberg is impressive. But so is Justice Thomas. Would Hollywood ever praise him?” asks Stossel.
Hollywood’s condescension toward anyone not on the left frustrates the few actors who lean right. Most fear saying anything because they’d lose work. But actor Kevin Sorbo talks about it.
“All of a sudden … less and less calls. My agent said we'd better part ways and I went, ‘wow, I made a lot of money for these guys,” recalls Sorbo.
“Did you ask him, why do we have to part ways?” asks Stossel.
“I knew why. They told me why. They were pretty straight forward about it,” responds Sorbo.
Kevin Sorbo was even banned from a comic-book convention, East Coast Comicon.
He says, “[Hollywood has] the most anti-tolerant people and hateful people that we have right now.”
Sorbo continues, “Every movie I’ve seen now, every TV show I seem to see, doesn't matter what it is, there's always some point, someplace, where they'll … degrade anybody who's conservative or Republican.”
His response was to produce his own films, like God’s Not Dead, a Christian film that cost two million dollars but returned 140 million.
Hollywood is ABSURDLY biased. Maybe market competition will bring some balance.”

In light of these facts there should be no confusion when they preach against free market and free thought. Awakened humans make terrible consumers.

Same here. I always felt like it was a "wool over the eyes" thing. "Yeah, these poor people will eat up our message about how greed is bad and capitalists are scum... meanwhile we'll be _swimming_ in their money!" Like, okay, the greedy business owner is a tried and true villain archetype, and yeah, you do have to do some shady shit to become one of the "elites"... but also, those "greedy business owners", they also create the jobs most of the country depends on. And a lot of big businesses do sketchy things, but a lot of the time, it isn't so Mr. CEO Moneybanks can line their personal pockets, a lot of that money goes back into the system to increase profits and pay back investors who made the business possible in the first place. There's a lot to criticize about the ruthlessness of _unchecked_ capitalism, but to boil it all down to "Mr. CEO is a douchebag" grossly oversimplifies the actual problems.

Quite a lot of what we Americans see on TV and in movies is mostly or completely done in Canada, anyway, though the money-grubbers in Hollywood still keep as tight a hold on the purse-strings as they can. China has destabilized that situation, however, with the result being that all too many films and TV series now visibly cater to Chinese sensibilities, with Chinese actors, producers, and "approval" of scripts. I'm surprised that Stossel didn't cover that aspect of today's entertainment industry.

In 2001 I moved from Denver to San Francisco for a job. In Denver I had friends that leaned left and right, straight and gay, black, white, Mexican, asian, whatever. We all got along just fine. I went to San Francisco thinking people there would be open minded and welcoming... Boy was I wrong. I found it to be the most intolerant place I'd ever been. So many people were so militant about all of their views, and you became the enemy if you didn't agree with them 100%. That was almost 20 years ago and it seems it's only gotten worse. So happy I was able to move with work again after 8 excruciating years there.

Great to see someone from mainstream media just presenting a different viewpoint without criticizing that viewpoint. I’m mixed race, brought up Catholic, studied other religions but am Atheist. I am a father of two daughters, and helped raise 3 other step daughters for a time. I’ve experienced and witnessed many type of struggles (racism, bullying, religious bias, extreme sexism), so understand where folks in Hollywood get their viewpoints. Okay, so I’m a woman who is well...different in many ways & so is my viewpoint of all this chaos. I had friend who is a Liberal & I always thought it was the far left who were a bit crazy that is until today. We were talking about how Twitter & Facebook are being investigated for oppressing free speech, I said the people have the right to free speech, as long as it’s not hate (as in threatening to harm someone simply because of their color of skin or because of their political viewpoints). My ex-friend said “as long as it’s not conspiracies trying to brainwash people or threaten the state, they shouldn’t have a platform!” I replied with, “but freedom of speech is a Conversational right, you cannot ban someone because they sharing their opinion.” “If it’s against the state or proclaiming voting fraud I can! It’s like the people who go to churches to be brainwashed by them!” he hollered back. “That’s separation of church and state, they’re not the same thing. Free speech is for everyone, even if may sound like a conspiracy theorist wrote it.” And that was it. I also had a discussion with a right side lady, she at first seemed a but uncertain about me simply because of my personal beliefs. But she heard me explain why our founding fathers created the 1st Amendment: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press thereof; how they were being oppressed & how they wanted to create a country where there was none; you started liking me. We went on to have a very interesting conversation & that woman was an elder. So a person who sees both sides (no, a quarter does not have two sides, it has three...the middle), I have heard both sides. Yes, capitalism is needed, but so is socialism (and I mean not King Louie 16 socialism...the rich shall eat as the poor shall starve). Socialism is needed in areas like medical, food, clothing, education, etc. . Capitalism is needed in the world of finance, currency, trading, etc. . The two can work together as long as the humans using them work together in peace. M

Years ago I saw Kevin at a con, he is one of the most entertaining guys I've seen at a convention. I've seen other celebrities get political at cons I will walk out, these people have good stories they have done some pretty interesting things. But for whatever reason, they decide it's better alienate a large portion of their audience. Being a Conservative Republican sci-fi fan(there are a lot of us out there) you learn to keep your mouth shut, and put up the all of the "tolerance" for our point of view.

There's a reason I stopped going to the Wizard Comic Con. They used to be about nerd culture. Now it's about mainstream culture disguised as nerd culture. Unfortunately, mainstream has infected the nerd culture, but they don't understand it. So all the characters are being rewritten. Not just turning boys into girls, but also their basic fundamentals of what made the characters so compelling are rewritten. Harley Quinn is no longer the terrifying representation of a twisted codependency gone terribly wrong. Oh, no. She has to be a "role model" now. I'm so sick of this idea that characters all have to be role models. Fictional characters can't be role models! They are fiction. They can only represent an idea.

Today it's so mainstream, I have no interest in anything new. It's not fun anymore, at cons I walk around endlessly and hope I run into some old friends. Because I'm not buying anything, that's at a con with over 80,000 attendees. Then having the celebrities go on about politics, ugh. I got better places to spend money, I since discovered sports cars. Not only is is cheaper now to publish indie, but it's also the only way for some books to be published! "Jawbreakers: Lost Souls" was an indie comic that was published in the style of the old 90's comics when it was still counter culture. It sold tons.
