The Hollywood business has always been about who you know instead of what you know

sadly, its not just hollywood, but basically ALLL of society, american, or european, and regardless of anything that could be comparably-parallel to acting, like Modeling, Fashion, political-office, or the like. Every career, even STEM fields and trade-based careers, is at its core, runs on 'who you know' and 'who knows you'.

It’s not just nepotism it’s networking. If I have a movie with an average actor whose name is going to bring interest and create discourse which gets my movie more publicity then I chose the nepo baby. That also often brings contacts with higher investments. But many businesses work that way, it’s just a grander scale. It’s why word of mouth recommendations don’t always work because people promote friends over ability. Just a reflection of society in general where we would rather help our own than yours.

My wife and I own a small but successful dog grooming business. We have three daughters. What are the odds that at least one of them will become a dog groomer? Very high, obviously. But it’s not like they’ll continue to be successful if they’re bad at grooming or running a business. So maybe that’s when nepotism is a problem, when success is unearned and in fact disproportionate to ability.

I think a video like this would have benefited immensely from a longer run-time - you devoted time to explaining what a nepo baby is and how these people are related to other famous people (and quite rightly so) but didn't expand on _why_ you found any of their acting to be bland or bad. This was a good video for the bitesize piece that it was, but I think it would benefit not only us as the audience but _you_ to say what resonated and what didn't.

Who even saw Argyle? BDH is far from a bad actress, and to the average normie, her performance in Jurassic World isn't blatantly lower than Chris Pratt's, and people were so jacked up about all the dino action and how hot she looked that nit-picking at her acting chops wasn't really even noticeable or worth anyone's time. The nepotism is just a part of life in any career. Before the current teacher shortage we have, teaching was notorious for nepotism.

0:22 "and it's not just newer stars" (names iconic names) 0:38 " i'll stop, but there's alot more" i think that the major difference between A-list actors of previous generations (who happened to quietly be nepo-babies) and modern day out-loud-and-proud nepo babies, who are handed actor jobs, is that (maybe ?) the previous generations put their effortful dues in, during or immediately after getting the thing. The A-list stars of yesteryear would want to learn and put work in to take care of it (ie, getting some sort of acting school training, even if informal or kept-quiet), and learn how to properly tend to their skills (ie, reading scripts and not only learning the lines, but delving into the character, and embodying their role, which to some degree, allows for a modicum of ad-libbing or improv) - while the modern (post-9-11) nepo-babies, arrogantly or ignorantly put little to no effort at improvement and upkeep of the behind-the-face skills, and as a result, everything they touch, is made lesser because of their presence and refusal to learn and become better, even if only Just-Slightly.

Nepotism is bad if a better performer doesn’t get the role. If the nepo baby is good, it’s still somewhat unfair, but it doesn’t affect the overall result. Playing the same role in every movie isn’t the problem, many others do that, like the Rock, Vin Diesel and so on.

Of course, the world is full of businesses titled 'Father and Son'. As you briefly mention; nepotism isn't confined to Hollywood. And, as for Ms. Howard; 'Jurassic Park...' (whatever) is the only film I've seen her in, and I didn't think she was any better or any worse than the rest of the cast or the film. However, I get your point, certainly. Nepotism isn't always for the best, and it can go poorly for all involved. But again, as you point out; those growing up with parents, successful in a particular profession, may desire to continue in that career - hopefully, they learn from those parents or at least, inherit their talent. :)

This needs more research and kind of lazy. It’s kind of laughable how the creator glosses over other movies where these actors had significant roles before their so-called "big break" to push a narrative. Take Jamie Lee Curtis, for example-did you even look into her career? She started on TV, and at that time, her parents weren’t the Hollywood stars they’re often remembered as today. Sure, there was a time when they were big stars, but by the time Jamie was starting out, their status had regressed as their roles dwindled. They didn’t hold all the power that people-or this video-seem to assume. Jamie Lee’s real breakthrough came with the low-budget film Halloween (1978), which ended up becoming one of the most successful independent movies ever. From there, she put in the work-mainly in horror films-because she was typecast as the "final girl" or a "slasher protagonist." It took her years of grinding to break free from that label and show the world she was so much more than just a horror actress. Plus, Robert Downey Jr.’s father was primarily a low-budget movie director, mostly working on forgotten films. He was not a powerful figure in Hollywood by any means and didn’t influence Robert Downey Jr.’s career trajectory in terms of helping him get roles. And then there’s Bryce Dallas Howard. M. Night Shyamalan cast her because he saw her perform in a play and was genuinely impressed. Do you honestly believe Ron Howard has something with Shyamalan the director of the village and told him or influenced him to casting his daughter? At the peak of his career, with The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs under his belt-all massive box office hits-Shyamalan wasn’t taking casting advice from anyone. It’s a ridiculous. The bottom line is, these actors’ journeys are far more complicated than the video suggests. Sure, they may have had certain advantages, but oversimplifying their paths is lazy and paints a misleading picture for the audience.

Society is stable enough for these things to happen. Of course you get a leg up when you are an established person. Howard can take her resume, not to bad and go into producing (organising) films to be made. I don't hate on these people for it. Even Mike Tyson's kids could soon be scholars.

I mean it can't really be helped, you have a bunch of kids that spend their entire lives around hollywood people and at hollywood partys , so if they are not too hideout and have a minimum of acting chops, they're probably going to get at least a couple of roles offered from friends of the family and other hollywood producers . Plus it's hollywood so they get access to the best acting coaches, the best personal trainers and the best plastic surgeons... So even if you're a very mediocre actor that looks average amd would probably never make it in hollywood , it'll probably get fixed by throwing money at the problem and asking for favors. Heck , sometimes dad is the one that does the casting for the movies and he'll straight out put his little princess in there because it's her dream job . Any since hollywood treats celebrity names as a commodity , having the "Son or Daughter of..." at hand is handy, especially when the "original" one is getting older and the can just slot their kid to take it's place.
