EDIT: I don't read from a script when I do these tours. I accidentally mentioned the 405 freeway in this video. I meant to call it the "old San Diego Freeway" which now of course is where the 405 is. Since we still refer to the 405 as the San Diego Freeway I accidentally called it by its number.

Reading Kirkpatrick's "A Cast of Killers" years ago was my introduction to the William Desmond Taylor story. It became my "travel" book and I'd haul it along anytime I had a lengthy flight. I realise Taylorology has disputed some of King Vidor's account but it's still fascinating. Your three-part investigation is brilliantly done and I so appreciate all the time you spent. I've been an avid fan of silent comedy my whole life and have a deep fondness for Chaplin, Mabel Normand, Edna Purviance, Sennett etc. and loved seeing current images of those homes, streets and sadly only parking lots where so much happened. I visited Niles several years ago and could feel the presence of Charlie and Edna there. For some reason Mabel and Edna always make me a bit sad. Such beauty and so much comedy when their personal lives were sometimes tragic. I'm glad to discover your KZbin channel, Justin. I hope to watch many of your videos I've missed. Keep them coming! It's so true! You truly are an investigative reporter....but by traveling to relevant sites, you are giving your viewers an experience, not just a story, but through your unique lens. Loved this! I tare followed this for some time But did not know of Patricia Palmer. Yes the son should have come forward way before the late 90's. So good of Mary Pickford to be so kind to Mabel's Mother Do you remember the tr commercial of either Dunkin Donuts or MacDonalds that featured the girl who looked like Mabel Normand? At the time everyone said it was an uncanny resemblance to her. I want to say early 90's or so.. You did an amazing job on this one! My guess it was M.M.M., in a frantic episode. Her mother must have been a piece of work to live with sadly.

Why do you think it's Mary's mother. It's very unlikely a female would do this. The creator of the documentary is merely reporting what the press concocted, and the press made up incredibly fantastical stories back in those days before defamation lawsuits became all the rage. It was about making money. I bet you believe anything you're told. It's most likely a same sex love affair gun awry by a hired gunman. So much for critical thinking. What is most concerning is people like yourself not only believe anything the media say, but will call for mob justice. These poor women's lives were ruined. Too bad their estates can't bring on lawsuits.

I am also now a huge fan of Mabel Normand. She had such an influence on early Hollywood and with the likes of Goldwyn, Mayer and Chaplin playing a part at her memorial service, she was indeed well-respected and well-liked. RIP.

This series was so well done. Great job. It’s like The old Mysteries and Scandals show, but good. When I was pregnant with my third child in 2019 I had a horrible high risk pregnancy & I used to read and watch old Hollywood content a lot for escapism. I didn’t want to find out the sex of my baby until birth and when she was born I looked at her and said Harlow. I had no idea at the time, but later discovered, she and Jean Harlow have the same birthday!

Hi Justin, I Just watched your coverage of the William Desmond Taylor murder and was very impressed. This case has always interested me and I have never seen the case covered so thoroughly in video! Visiting all the locations really brought this 100 year case to life. Your 3 part series is put together so well that I'm sure that it's testament to how much time and effort went into its writing and producing it. I also want to thank you for mentioning Marble Normand. I too believe that she is a forgotten pioneer of the film industry. Finally, I really think that Margaret Gibson's had something to do with the murder. She had a connection with the national Blackmail ring which means she had the means, and Taylor had something to hide (motive being blackmail). Margaret, aka Gibby, aka Pat, apparently knew Taylor before they both got to Hollywood, they both traveled throughout the west in the same stock vaudeville company. She also conveniently traveled out of country when the second inquiry was occurring. Anyway just want to add my thoughts. Congratulations on the great Series of videos. Thank you so much!

Wow-the most enthralling saga of old Hollywood I can remember. You did a superb job putting the story together. Wonderful work Justin! I just binge watched all three parts. I became fascinated and intrigued by this case many years ago as a teenager. I was at the library one summers day and came across the book 'Cast of Killers' supposedly based on King Vidors own investigation into it. This started my path to a never ending look into the case. I am also a huge silent film buff -- so it kinda goes hand and hand together.

This was a great 3-part series. Superimposing the locations then to what exists now is really brilliant work. And the Palmer angle and the idea that a "confession" was sat on for decades really caught me by surprise, all new to me. The mystery and all the stories just further proves that a lot of the "lore" that is now accepted after years of being repeated always needs to be taken with a critical eye. I have found some glaring errors, for example, in the "lore" of Valentino along with inaccuracies by "experts" who have written books. And I'm still finding more information that has never been really addressed when it comes to Valentino. I have a backlog to write about!

You said the man dancing with Mabel took off on the 405 freeway! That freeway didn't exist until the 1960's. Los Angeles had no freeways until the Pasadena Freeway was built in 1943. Before the 405, there was Sepulveda Blvd., which wound through Sepulveda Canyon, through a forest of ancient Sycamore trees. I think that's what you mean.

Whole heartedly agree with you about Mable Normand. Why there is little mention of her or a great movie about her is a shame. Loved your detailed look at this murder. I’ve been interested in this ever since I read the book A cast of killers in 86. I’ve also read Tinseltown and listened to Podcasts. I love how you pulled all the information together and took us to the actual places, great job. Wondering if you’d be interested in doing this kind of treatment to Rosco Arbuckles case, my other obsession. I know you touched on it here but there is sooo much to his case. Again brilliant job, thank you.

Calvary cemetery stands on its own as one of the most interesting places to see many beautiful and unique headstones. Well worth the trip to visit. Don't forget your camera or cell phone. Thanks a bunch for these videos. You really put a great deal of time into them. Sad that no one was prosecuted for Mr. Taylor's murder.

I so appreciate the tribute to Mabel Normand. I'd no idea the great talent she was. Now, how do we get HER studio to bear HER name instead of Sennett's? And how did it even happen that it doesn't? Your work is riveting. Thanks for all the time you give to showing places, houses, studios, before and after comparisons....I've never seen anything that "takes you back" like your work. Love it!
