Whitley Heights Walking Tour- Episode 3
Before Beverly Hills existed the rich and famous stars of Hollywood lived in a Mediterranean-style neighborhood called Whitley Heights. This gem of a neighborhood still remains today and is virtually untouched.
In episode 3 we'll visit several great homes and hear stories about Whitney Blake, Meredith Baxter, Marie Dressler, Adrian, Janet Gaynor, William Faulkner, Gloria Swanson, William Wellman, Lenore Coffee, Irene Tedrow, Ida Koverman, Dennis O' Keefe, Ellen Pompeo, Spring Byington, Adolph De Meyer, Helen Traubel, Dorothy Kirsten, Maybelline, Thomas Lyle Williams, Emery Shaver, Rudolph Valentino, Natacha Rambova, and Busy Phillips.

Thanks for an enjoyable afternoon seeing this neighborhood again. My sister lived on Dix Street 30 years ago with two other young actresses and I remember visiting, loving the neighborhood, and chastely lusting after her roommates.

it’s Bravo not “Brava”

@@caribbeantigress I absolutely wasn't thinking about using the feminine form of bravo...just proclaiming excellence and gratitude as I normally do without thinking about gender. It was out of joy. Brava is a real word. Look it up if you like. Perhaps I should have said bravo but maybe we should be more concerned about the very well done video we watched and enjoyed.

@@heidi5333 You are using Spanish language which is MY FIRST LANGUAGE 😂😂😂 spanish is a gendered language whether you like it, or not. To express “Gratitude” you may use: Maravilloso Bravo- Brava means a brave Woman not a documentary 😭😂🤣🤣 Stop Murdering MY LANGUAGE….

Ok. My deepest apologies for murdering your language. Thank you for stealing my joy. For a minute. I was just happy. And appreciative. From now on I will follow your impromptu grammar lesson, as per your request. I already respected your first language and people. I think it's time to let this go.

I remember watching Whitney Blake on Hazel when I was a child 60+ years ago. It's funny how that name has stuck with me. Probably because it was an unusual name at the time. I have loved this walking tour. I am such a huge fan of early Hollywood and always feel like if I could time travel, that is where I'd go, just to be a fly on the wall. Thank you for your hard work!

A fabulous episode featuring one of the all-time greatest movie scenes with Jean Harlow and Marie Dressler. And with Gloria Swanson as well this was a truly magical return to the Golden Age of Hollywood.Thanks.

This is wonderful ❤❤❤. I’m a huuuuuge Valentino fan, so big that I have him tattooed on my arm 😊 Fun fact: I snaked under the front gates of Falcon Lair about 15 years ago and walked along what it left of the property. There is a fountain in front of what is the old stables and what looks like upstairs living quarters. There was a pile of crumpled slate from the demolition sitting in front of that fountain. Yes, I was the fan that they had to hire armed guards for 😅 I still have my palm sized piece of slate. I took photos of my walk around the premises and I got a beautiful shot from the back overlooking the canyon. Later I befriended a lovely elderly gentleman on Facebook that worked as an extra on many musicals in the 50s- 60’s that I later found out lived there at Falcon Lair during his heyday. His name is Christopher Riordan. I sent him the photos and he explained some things regarding the property to me from my photos. One cool fact is that the shots I got overlooking the canyon pointed right towards the Tate Murder / Cielo Drive house.

About 30 years back I was in the USA with my father and driving down the freeway he pointed out an old foundation up the bank of what used to be Valentino’s house . I was fascinated by this and to why it was the only foundation left but have been told for this reason of the people who owned it as a marker of sorts . I’m hoping it is still there as living in the uk I do not get over to visit relatives as much now older . Fantastic work on your shows fella . Much love. Dean ❤️

okay, I am starting to drink the koolaid here. from the marvelous history lessons, excellent reference materials-photos-clips... fractured editing, slightly psychotic music and uneven volume... and Justin's hair which seems to have its own agenda... I'm a fan. gold star. just subscribed AND mentioned one of the vids in my blog so others can enjoy.

Hi Justin, I really enjoyed this tour as I am fascinated by old Hollywood and Whitley Terrace. I am trying to find out information on a large Moorish style home at 6787 Whitley Terrace. (You can see it in the background on the Charlie Chaplin home postcard in this video). It was supposedly the final home demolished for construction of the 101. Do you have any ideas where I can find out more on this home? I’d love to see more pictures and be able to learn more about it.

I'm seeing more of L.A. than when I lived there. Love your videos. When I lived in L.A. in 1977 we would see the stars walking all over the place so I am very good at recognizing the stars. At 1:06 into your video on Whitney Blake there is a picture of a lady in a mink coat. She looks more like Christine Baranski from the movie Mama Mia. Are you sure that is Whitney Blake?

Where do they park now? Most of the garages are for cars built in the 1920s. They were much smaller then.
