Nightwish Army + Epica Legion have been summoned. Symphonic Metal bands I can immediately think of (and often tour together) include Nightwish, Epica, Kamelot, Xandria, Within Temptation, Leaves' Eyes...you have a massive world to explore. Personal top 5 suggestions: 1. It's going to be said, but just more Nightwish (live). Personal favs being Romanticide, 7 Days to the Wolves, I Want My Tears Back (Wacken 2013), Yours Is An Empty Hope (Floor growls!), and Ever Dream. 2. Liar Liar by Kamelot 3. Consign to Oblivion - Epica (much more metal) 4. The Day That The World Breaks Down - Ayreon (features MANY symphonic and power metal artists in one song) 5. And We Run - Within Temptation, feat. Xzibit (symphonic metal/rap mix!)

Aw, was so pleased with how excited you guys were on this one. You're right, these bands are popular just not in the US. Epica doesn't usually play with an orchestra but this was a special show. I believe Simone, Epica's singer, was pregnant at this time if I remember correctly. I think she wrote the lyrics for this song as well - I admire that she writes a lot of the lyrics, they are quite good!
@cyberjarl4 жыл бұрын
To expand on what others have said, Floor and Simone know each other well. They are friends in real life and Floor was Simone's vocal coach. In addition to that, the man who shouted "Floor Jansen" with a growly voice at the end is Epica's co-founder Mark Jansen (no family relation with Floor). He was with After Forever with Floor before leaving due to creative differences and forming his own band, Epica, with his girlfriend at the time - Simone. They have named Nightwish as a major inspiration for them - long before Floor was in it. Simone and Mark are no longer a couple but they work together very well still. Simone is married to a member of another Symphonic metal band - Kamelot. Kamelot toured with Nightwish during their 2012 Imaginaerum US tour. During this tour, Nightwish's lead vocalist at the time, Anette Olzon, fell ill and the two female vocalists in Kamelot covered for her during one show. Anette publicly criticized the band for replacing her during that show instead of cancelling it. This was the last straw that led to Anette's firing from Nightwish and Floor joining them. We know the rest ;) One of the two Kamelot vocalists that covered for Anette then is Elize Ryd. Elize was considered by Nightwish in 2005-2006 after they fired Tarja, but they thought she was too young and went for Anette instead. Elize then formed her own band, Amaranthe. Unrelated to this, in Anette's first album with Nightwish, they released a song titled "Amaranth". Are your heads spinning yet? XD

Love the reaction. Epica doesn't normally tour with the orchestra, like Nightwish. But this was a special 10th anniversary performance for Epica in the Netherlands, their home country. Floor is also Dutch and good friends with Epica. She used to be in a band called After Forever with Epica's guitarist Mark Jansen. No relation to Floor. Usually the orchestra and choir is taped for the studio versions and played as a backing track, and through digital samples by the keyboardist. Anyway, Sancta Terra is Latin for Holy Land.

One of the things that impressed me about the infamous live "Ghost Love Score" performance at Wacken was how the band was so on point and tight an entire hour on stage. This performance by Epica? Equally deep into their set, but the kicker? Simone was three months preggers at the time. Most women in their third month I've known don't even want to get out of bed in the morning until they've had their AM vomit. Much less get gussied up to go out on a stage and perform under bright lights. Though they say it's good to play music for the fetus, and that makes me wonder... what type of grade A savant is her child after being serenaded in the womb by not just her mom, but Floor as well? I also have to ask what the hell are they doing in Scandahoovia that they are pumping out such talented vocalists, whilst here in the colonies we're stuck with auto-tuned no-talent hacks like Eilish and Beyonce? FFS Giving Billie Eilish a Grammy was a crime against music.

I discovered Epica in January of 2016, and could not believe my ears! They are just amazing! Through them I have discovered Within Temptation, Diabulus in Musica, Amaranthe, Amberian Dawn, and Edenbridge, just to name a few. Two things, when reacting to other Epica songs, many are long, ( 7mins+), and w/o YT Red, or ad blockers, there are interruptions. Second, check out The Misfit Swing by Diabulus in Musica. It's a short, and fun song. DIM is symphonic metal, but the song itself is symphonic swing metal. Much like an Amaranthe song, you won't know whether to dance or head bang, and you'll be afraid to do both for fear of hurting yourselves, and having to go to the hospital.

Their repetoire goes from soaring ballads to quit heavy songs including growling.But don't worry, there is always lead singer Simone Simons with those high notes and even some operatic kinda sound in her voice. Someone upvote the hell out of this to get them to put some respect on Theatre of Tragedy.

Epica took their name from a Kamelot album title. Try some Kamelot? "Liar Liar", "Insomnia" and "Phantom Divine"? - new singer. Or "Elizabeth I II and II" with original singer. More Epica - "Chasing The Dragon" from the same show.

Epica - Design your Universe (live) Also the single best symphonic metal bands IMO is Within Temptation Songs I'd suggest by them would be: Ice Queen Solem Hour Angels It's the Fear Stairway to the Skies Stand my Ground and Somewhere (just search for Somewhere the best duet ever - it's a fantastic live version with Anneke van Giersbergen, who's another angelic symphonic metal lead vocalist)

Guys, guys you've got to react to "Dawn of Victory" by Rhapsody, so powerful, fast paced and the double kick drumming running at 1000 MPH. let alone the guitar solos, song is a masterpiece between all masterpieces.

If you liked these two queens together, I will recommand the song "Stabat Mater Dolorosa" (written by a Franciscan poet of the XIII century). In this performance, Simone sings the soprano part and Floor the alto (in case we forgot how versatile and talented she is) and all of this, in the middle of a metal concert and in a front of silent metalheads. Epica actually got their name from Kamelots album of the same name. I'm just gonna recommend kamelot Elizabeth 1 2 &3 live from One cold winters night. Roy Khan is the best male vocalist in metal.

👍🏼 Please react to more of Epica Kingdom of Heaven, Phantom Agony, Unleashed. You can react to Within Temptation, Delain, Therion, Haggard

Please consider doing Kamelot - Elizabeth (the live version from the One Cold Winter's Night concert recordings)! I've seen a few other comments also suggesting Kamelot songs/performances, but this one is *_the_* Roy Khan performance that blows all other ones out of the park.

Therion invented symphonic metal (they were initially doing more of death metal in the late 1980s). I can give you my top 3 symphonic metal bands so that you can get a hint of what to react to next 😉1. Therion 2. Nightwish 3. Epica. Maybe do To Mega Therion (which actually means The Great Beast) or Blood of Kingu or Lemuria or Ginungagap or Birth of Venus Illegitima - all of which have great live performances you can react to...

Since your loving symphonic metal, I would highly recommend Within Temptation. In my opinion, I think you guys should start with And We Run, which combines Within Temptation and Xzbit. You wont be dissapointed, I promise.

Because you like Nightwish and Epica, the next logical move must be Within Temptation (Ice Queen is a popular song). These three bands stamp the definition of symphonic metal. Honorable mention: Therion
