This series of roundtable discussions from The Hollywood Reporter is a real treat. And this one with TV drama showrunners is genuinely compelling. Thank you to THR.

One of the best roundtables yet. These 54 minutes just flew by.

Any discussion with Sorkin in it is bound to become that much deeper. Kudos

As a big fan of "Game of Thrones," I'd have loved to have heard a lot more from D.B. Weiss. This Roundtable was still fascinating regardless.

Interesting to see DB Weiss talking about how violence should be "awful to witness", you know he was thinking about the Mountain and the Viper scene in that moment

Wow, I think Aaron Sorkins first statement just predicted today's world. Quite scary.

Thanks for posting the whole thing unlike the Variety roundtables. It's much more fun, it's like you're a fly on the wall and get to watch some great discussion .

The man defined the 90's. Who cares if his current show is less than stellar?
@MrROKinROK11 жыл бұрын
Already a fan of Mad Men, Game of Thrones, Homeland, & any Sorkin fare, aside from the pleasure of being a fly on the wall of a dream-team writers' room, one takeaway was that I've gotta check out House of Cards & The Following simply by association. Aside: Interesting that after Sorkin says he doesn't want to leverage hindsight to make his characters more heroic (specifically citing Benghazi as the next news story in the timeline), the episode intimates that his crew would've gotten it right.
@Tiggo91111 жыл бұрын
Vince Gilligan should be on this too!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4:00 wow... I love Sorkin. The incidental brilliance that just falls out of this man is impressive. So simple and yet... Not. This was a damn good sitting.

I cant help to notice some people complaining about Kevin Williamson being here. Just because the show he is running now is not as good ad others, doesn't mean he doesn't have very interesting things to say. That guy as proved to be a hard working screenwriter and certainly was very influential in the 90's. Don't get me wrong, I love Vince Gilligan and I loved him in last year's roundtable. I also admit that I am not a big fan of "The Following" (I liked the pilot, tough) but I admire Kevin.

How did DB Weiss not say more about the topic of violence like Game of Thrones isn't literally one of the most grotesque shows to ever be aired on television?
@davidwatson71964 жыл бұрын
I think everyone in the room knew that question was directed at DB Weiss. DB Weiss did well in sidestepping that question as best as he could. Also, the other showrunners knew who the question was for and they went out of their way to shield DB Weiss from it. Especially, Matthew Weiner. I believe this interview was after the Red Wedding Episode. Everybody in the world was talking or twittering about that episode. DB Weiss did well with his response to that question.

For me, the violence in films & TV conversation went on far too long. I have never thought it was a very worthwhile conversation due to the fact that I took in violence in film, TV & media and I am a non-confrontational pacifist. I get if it is important in your view but in my opinion... BOOORRRINGGGGG!!! Skip to 17:58 to avoid it.

No it isn't. The Following and Scandal have about the same critical ratings. I personally think Shonda's very talented (and deserved her place at the table last year), but to say Scandal is better than The Following is like comparing apples to oranges. Two very different premises and themes.

Well, there's scenes where men get stabbed, disemboweled and stabbed up through the crotch for rape or attempted rape. If you're talking Drogo and Dany. That's just verbatim from history concerning Genghis khan and his wife. Im still curious to hear what your problems with the show are though

Did you watch the agent round table? There are 6 females and those 6 females say in their own words that they don't think that there is an inequality in their workplace and they are not paid lower than any man. Same goes for 5 out of 5 female casting directors, 4 out of 6 costume designers, the sexes prefer different jobs. You don't just shove equality into every single thing, different jobs are favoured and occupied more by either sex. As a woman do you like being a control freak handling the lives of hundreds of crews, settling disputes and putting together a show? I don't know, but the statistics show that less women are working in the job, more prefer to work as casting directors, costume designers, agents or producers.
