I know Dan doesn't necessarily need help in the guitar department, but did you play on this new record at all Tom? The new single sounds great and the video is hilarious. I saw that Noel Gallagher co-wrote the song which is cool as hell.

Great advice for both stage and trade. Life's too short to not at least do what you can to try to really enjoy playing the gig. Every minute on that stage is difficult to come by and it's literally our job to connect with the people who are nice enough to tolerate us taking their time and blasting their ears with our gear. We owe it to ourselves, our bandmates, and especially our audience to always be present and open on the stage. We are tasked with creating an experience.

I'm with you, Tom, on the "no luthier's knot." Worked in a shop and always hated that. However, I don't clip the string with wire cutters because it leaves that death spike on the tuner. I work the string back and forth until it snaps off, clean and flush with the post. I know people say, "oh, don't do that because the string will slip." Nope. Never once in my life has that happened. Not once. Ever. Thanks for the vids.

I discovered the Rev Willys strings during COVID when I was bored and looking for an experiment. They never oxidized or tarnished, even though my oily hands ruin many other brands and types within days. They felt good, sounded good, and stayed fresh longer than any I've used. They were also the cheapest at the time by a wide margin, although the prices have crept up lately.

💯% on engaging the crowd Tom.👌 If you are afraid of the people you are playing for, ya might want to reconsider the type of musician you really want to be. Live gigs aren't for everyone, that is for sure. I loved getting the crowd all jacked up, seeing everyone have a great time is what it's all about. Our bass player was always hiding as far in the back as he could, he was just self conscious, so I'd give him solos to draw out his talent and then make him get center stage. It took a while, but he finally started getting into it, then we could have fun messing with everybody. That's what it's all about.🎸🤙
@jmwise803 ай бұрын
Being an introvert is a struggle sometimes as a player. I’m a hider, too.😂 Y’all are dead ass right tho.
@gwbuilder57792 ай бұрын
@@jmwise80 Just so you know, it wasn't a dig, it's a common sense question really. If you love playing, but don't want to be in front of people, perhaps being a session playing or even a bar or pick-player where you are restricted to a particular area. I totally get it, I never made fun of our bass player, he needed to know where we were headed and what was expected, that way he could decide if he was up to that position in the band. So many guys love to play, but are scared to death of being on stage. If it's a 3, 4, 5 piece band there is no hiding, but if it's a 10, 20 or other large assembly then there's a chance to hide just because of space.😂 When you are up on stage, think of yourself as being in character, take on your persona and as you walk off stage, simply step out of it. A lot of guys and gals do that, on stage they are a maniac, but as soon as they step off, they disappear into the back and never talk to the crowd.🤙

Nashville is like Chattanooga- it has a big river running through it at about 500ft above sea level, so the humidity is off the charts. I'm up on a mountain outside Chatt, and I can watch the temps drop 7-10 degrees as I drive up to the house on the thermostat. Couple that with a bunch of asphalt in the construction in Nashville.... and it is like a big reflector oven.
