From the starry-eyed dreamer in "Comet", through the disappointment of not progressing and yet marching on in "Celestrial Sphere", and then the whole world opened up for her in "Next Color Planet". Also, Suisei has a wild story. Suisei was apparently TOO talented and was rejected by many idol agencies (She can sing, dance/choreography, 3d model, create videos, pro level Tetris 99 player (she lasted almost 20 mins in a game against the #2 player in the world online), etc) so she made herself an idol (including her original model which has now been updated)! She was independent for about a year or so before joining Hololive. Suisei, Sora, and Miko (who you didn't see here) were all independent before Hololive and the only ones who OWN their character (Cover/Hololive technically own the rights to all other girls' characters) and are seen as "Gen 0" along with Roboco who was the first "idol"/talent that Hololive themselves debuted since none of them debuted as part of a Generation of Hololive technically speaking, although Sora is basically the original and "first" Hololive member I believe. Sora and Suisei are basically certifiable stars/idols and everyone in the agency basically bows down and admires Sora as she is everyone's Senpai. Also, Sora WAS classically trained and trained in opera for a while. There is a lot more about each of these talents but this is to just give you a jist of the Suisei and Sora situation.
@snakescipio-d7q3 жыл бұрын
Sora and Miko were both part of Cover (Sora being the founding member of Holopro), so Suisei is really the only independent vtuber to join and keep her character. I mean that as in she fully designed everything on her own

-"King" is so covered by the fact that has a very permissive licence (like all the other vocaloid songs). -The sometime bleeped word is "shinderu" aka "death" in english. They were extra safe really. -Shion has a cute voice, but is more know for being a smug brat in her streams. And yes, she is a witch as character. -Watame is a sheep (right) and she does the "pa pa pa" part as "ba ba ba" (that a sheep verse in japanese). And yeah, she has a very unique voice. She is very active as singers, and most of her songs are usually very personal (she has a very interesting... IRL background). -Matsuri, the one without a character, she is simply a herself, a very multi-faced girly girl and idol. And yes, she has a great singing skill. And with a prominent pervert side. -Towa is know for her much lower tone voice. It's her natural voice. Many love her voice for being so different from the others Hololive JP girls. She is a devil as character. -Ayunda Risu... oh, boy, I'm a fan of her, so... she is know to have a very large vocal range, and about 6 different "voices" she can use effortless. You hear a little of her "risu" (more nasal, close and squicky) voice, most of the song is in her "ayunda" voice (more deep and open). The little effect on the "king" is harmonic with herself (in a tone highter). The mixer of that king version is a youtuber himself, and has done a video step-by-step how he mixed it. And, she is a squirrel as character, but it's basically herself on stream now. She's indonesian (and part of Hololive ID). -Ayame is the most cute in Hololive, in general. And very polite. Her cuteness is so strong that she's the source of what her fans call "Nekirium", aka cute happiness. And she is really incapable of being "bad ass". Her character is a Oni. -Roboco, yup, she is as character a robot. She has a very sweet voice but she is know that she can really add gothic and yandere tones if she wants. -Sora is the OG of Hololive (she was the first girl in Hololive, and Hololive is born in part thanks to her). She is the most idol and trained singer in Hololive, doing live concerts and albums. And yes, it's probabile she has a classic training too. She is very very good in vocaloid songs. -Reine is more the excellent work of Redshift in remixing and giving a very different spin of the song. Reine sings is clean, she has a very indonesian style of singing (both are part of Hololive ID). She is a peacock queen. -Suisei, she is simply the most talented and skilled singer in Hololive. She recorded this while she was recovering her voice. She is another without a true character, having started as an indipendent vtuber and then integrated in Hololive after a long journey. Her most know skill, aside her singing, is her "psycopath" personality and her skills in tetris. She has two albums now as a true singer, plus one collabs with a famous japanese producer first album. -Flare is a "big sister" one. She is a dark elf. Her voice is on the low tone, and she is know for being very flirty and friendly with the other girls (so much, that is a joke that she has an harem in hololive). -Calliope is a true rapper (literally, she was an indie rapper before Hololive), and know for being very "cool" and "daddy". And yeah, that's a southern accent (she has grow up in Texas). Gura is very cute and cheeky (and a true memer). They really had fun recording this, with Gura literally experimenting with her voice, and the usual added english rap of Calli. The most of the higher parts are by Gura, Calli has a more deep voice. -Hololive EN is much less formal, the girls have much more freedom usually. -Kanaria is the composer/songwriter, GUMI is a vocaloid software he/she (not sure) uses. So, yeah, it's NOT an human voice. Lastly, some rec for Suisei: my favorite is "Tenkyuu", other originals are "Stellar Stellar" and "Ghost", for covers "Kakusei" and "Cry baby".

ima talk a bit about each girl Murasaki Shion: her voice not as versatile as others, but she is a master of them highs, definetly one of the girls who can reach the highest notes in hololive. This is easily perceived on her duet of Ms Pumpkin alonside Okayu. Another honorable mention and personal favourite of her is the cover of the song called "hakujitsu". Tsunomaki Watame: Yes, she is indeed a sheep. Her voice is sweet and warm, but strong at the same time, less sharp than Shion but more versatile at the same time. Her range is kinda wide actually. She has loads of original song, each one different than the previous one, her voice do have a lot of facets i recomend her cover of "hello, how are you" a truly adorable song. Natsuiro Matsuri: she has a very strong voice and wide range, able to sing in both a low and high pitch, with a plethora of covers and a couple original songs she is quite an experienced singer. she is also an absolute master when it comes to emotional songs. her cover of "kokoronashi" and her accoustic cover of "Kataomoi" are 100% recomended and a testament of my previous statement. Tokoyami Towa: An absolute powerhouse and one of the strongest voices in the entire hololive. No one can avoid faling for her singing. She is able to hit those powerful and strong notes effortlesly and one of the few girls that can do a proper metal growl. Definetly one of the most loved voice and girl in the west. Her cover of "Error" is her cult classic and one of both most emotive and strong performances in the whole company, Even the original artist praised her for that cover Ayunda Risu: OH BOY, where do i start with her. Absolute queen of the 1001 voices, her voice range is wider than the ocean and she is able to hit those really high notes, she is not as good with the deeper register but still does a prety solid job with it. able to change her voice in the middle of a song just to change it again in a completely different one. Risu is one of the most proficient singers in hololive in my opinion. Her self duet cover of "snow halation" is a good example of the duality of her voice,although she is capable of much more. Nakiri Ayame: The personification of cutenes, probably the cutest being in the world. her cute and cheerful vocals are the joy of hololive, but cutenes is not her only quality, she is quite an excellent singer by herself too. Her cover of "shoujo rei" (cannot find it on her channel, it was lost when her account on bilibili was closed, fans has uploaded it on youtube but it is an oficial one) is i would dare to say one of her best covers, if not the best. But if you want a real beast, that is her cover of "goodbye declaration" Roboco: i will say it clearly, probably the most unique voice in hololive, her singing has this extreme breathnes and kinda lazyness that it is unmistakeable everytime it appears. But, not only that, her higher register is quite impressive aswell and she can sing outside of that breathiness too in an extremely cute manner making her voice actually much more versatile that it seem. her cover of "bocca de la verita" is an incredible assortment of her singing skill, but i would also like to give a mention to her duet cover with Rikka (another robot, a male from the male branch of hololive, called holostars) of the song "song of sketch" Tokino Sora: First talent of hololive and one of its best singers, the versatility of her voice is astounding, her range is wide and her technique is impecable, the most solid singer in the company and by far the one with the most songs, both covers and originals. Named human vocaloid for her inhumanly high notes despite the fact that her normal register is actually kind of deep. Curious you name the opera, because she has trained in opera and is able to sing quite well in an operatic voice. For popularity, her cover of the song "alien alien" is one of her most noteworthy works and a testament of her absurdly high notes, but you can pick literally anything from her and discover how the many techniques that she used work everytime. Pavolia Reine: Another of the indonesian girls. And man REDSHIFT is a madman. But back to Reine, i feel she still has a lot more to show as she does not has as many songs as the others, but has more than enough to show that she is the real deal. A proper singer in every aspect, her voice is pretty powerful all thorough despite the fact she sounds kind of cute and does not even use a deeper/cooler register which impresses me as is not something you see everyday. She do have a kind of wide range tho and uses a handful of techniques i am not knowledgeable enough to identify but are definetly there, probably you could do a better job than me on that. I do recomend her covers of "useewa" and her duet of "Ai dee" alongside Momosuzu Nene, two very different songs but with A LOT of details to talk about. Hoshimachi Suisei: i mean... i do not think i need to say anything right? I would not say unarguably, but it is very hard to find someone able to refute the statement that she is the best singer in hololive. Her masterful execution alongside her astonishingly powerful voice, joined with her wild use of vocals techniques makes her an absolute unit of a singer. Throw anything at her, she will sing it effortlessly. her karaokes have the quality of a studio recorded session and her live concerts are often even better. This is also the first time i will recomend a non-music thing, i recomend watching the video named "the story of Hoshimachi Suisei" a very detailed story of her journey from being nobody to being the musical power she is now, told by herself. A living experience of how hard it is to prosper as a singer, and how little it takes for the possibility of such a talent never existing. About her music, pick ANY of her originals, and you will end up devouring her entire discography. For me personally, she is one of the best singers you can find out of the thousand of vtubers out there. And the most scaring fact of all, she never cease to grow and become even better. Shiranui Flare: Cool, cute, strong, sweet. There are hundred of ways to name her voice, and all of them are right. Her voice reaches quite a wide spectrum of styles, she has shown a lot of power and versatility on her karaokes, but mostly stay on her comfort zone during her official covers. Although i must say, unhinged Flare on karaoke is a sight to behold. One of the big underrated figures in hololive, but with an incredibly loyal fanbase, myself included. Almost all her covers are quite a masterpiece and has high production value MVs. I definetly recomend her cover of "dakara ongaku wa yameta/ that's why i have up in music" this is the song that made me and lot of people realices how actually good she is at singing, and how you cannot judge a talent by her sub number. A powerhouse in a different sense of the rest Flare is a really good and solid singer. Gawr Gura & Calliope Mori: we got sweet smol shark in Gura and badass rapper in Mori. I dunno if it is me, but i have the hunch that people do not take Gura seriously as a singer, and while it is true that this king is very playful, Gura do have a very delightful singing voice that truly shines the most when she sing city pop music, making her unboubtedly the best singer of that genre in hololive. While Mori is esentially a rapper, she is not to take lightly when singing either, her raps are sharp, badass, absolute killers, but her singing can actually sound incredibly sweet and cute, a reaper with many faces and a plethora of skills that shine more and more the more fun she gets while doing it. Gura has not sing too much yet although she ispicking up the pace lately, while about Mori you has quite a lot of original songs and a few covers to go for. Definetly recomending her original "end of a life" and incredible masterpiece of slow rap with a meaningful message that, in context, can maku your eyes water out. I won´t coment about the original Kanaria as i am not knowledgeable enough for it and do not understand much about the technicalities going on there to be able to put up a good comentary. A few words for the end: Firstly and foremost, much thanks for the absolute delight of reaction and comentary, you have no idea how many years i have been waiting for someone able to react, identify and name all the techniques and details i always pick up but i hardly ever see people noticing or talking about them. i have not enjoyed watching a music reaction like i have today in a long time, much less writting such a lenghty coment. It has been a blast really. You have most certainly a sub in me, and if you keep reacting to music like this (specially vtuber as it is what i am most into rn). A bit of a request: they are not all the members in hololive, there are A LOT more, but i am most intrigued if you could react to the music of one of my favourite singers in hololive, Ookami Mio. Her voice is an absolute treat and has lot of details i would really love to see you breaking down like this. Would love to hear your opinion of either her original song "howling" a pretty strong one, or her cover of "sparkle" a really popular cover of the song and one of the most perfect covers i have ever heard. I am pledging my loyalty to you if you make this littlewish of mine come true, if you have time ofc. Now ending for real: again thanks,specially if you read this far, I hope my words have made you decide to check up some of this girls, they are definetly worth it as both singers and streamers and entertainers. I do love this girl dearly and wish them success, it is a hard work for them and if i can help bringing some people to them i would be inmensely happy.
@everfall88863 жыл бұрын
i even had to cut a part of the coment because it was too big to let me post it XD i always do the same. BTW about the original kanaria one is not that it is distorted, it is that is a synthetisation of a real voice, a vocaloid basically. Dunno if you are familiar with that term but is is another completely different hole arguably deeper than the vtuber one Edit: okay now that i am by the very end of the video and i have heard you talking about Suisei saying she could have make it as an idol i will tell you a bit of her story. She actually wanted to be an idol irl, but was rejected by all the groups she applied for. the reason they gave her is that she was actually too good at so many things, and needed someone good at only specific things to cover for the rest of the group. She literally got rejected for being a girl that would outclass the rest. That is the reason she started as vtuber

Ah yes. The original is sang by Gumi. Just like other vocaloids, Gumi is a voicebank that you can edit and change around to make a unique voice. So technically she isn’t human. But her VC is an actual human. Kanaria is the creator of the song and uses Gumi’s voice.

mixed the Risu king cover here! just found this video, risu is wonderful!!! thank you for checking out her king cover in this mix :D Loved seeing your reaction if you want a mixer's insight, realistically speaking at the time, Risu's highs needed a bit more work, hence your mentioning of her "closed off" sounding voice in the chorus. aside from the fake harmonies we had to make at the time, the biggest challenge was getting her to reach up there haha She's definitely got a beautiful lower voice! Much better now than she used to be, but yeah!

Very glad that you liked Suisei's voice! She's a very talent person who complements it with just as much hard work. As a long time viewer of Suisei, I want to share some info about her to a new fan. She is indeed talented enough to be a "normal" pop star or idol, in fact, ever since she was young she dreamed to be an idol. She practiced and practiced, dancing and singing to the tunes of her favourite idols. When she was old enough to be an idol, she auditioned but was rejected multiple times. It was allegedly because she was "too talented" that she was rejected. It sounds absurd but Japanese idol agencies really have very strict criteria for their talents. Suisei first debuted as an independent Vtuber in 2018, she continued to work independently for another year, amassing a comparatively small subscriber count of 10k. Some time around 2019, Suisei would submit her first application for Hololive which was sadly rejected. After a few more tries, Suisei was given a chance to perform with fellow member AZKi of INNK MUSIC (inonaka music), a music label under Hololive. After their performance, Suisei then announced that she would be officially joining INNK MUSIC. This gave her channel a massive growth in subscribers, tripling from 10k to 30k in just 2 months. After a few trips and bumps, it was decided on December 2019 that Suisei would officially be transferring from INNK to Hololive's main branch as one of their live streamers. Her channel saw a massive boom in 2020 together with other Hololive members as Vtubers were starting to get more attention, she ended with 600k subscribers that year. Fast forward more to September 2021, she released her first solo album, hosting a countdown stream for her viewers to watch. This Album was a huge success topping several charts including Oricon's daily album rankings. The album, "Still Still Stellar", would then become the best performing solo album from a Vtuber. I wanted to say more but this is the most I could do for now. I'm just glad I saw someone be mindblown by Suisei's talent so I was a little excited.

@Vasharan2 жыл бұрын
If you enjoyed Gura and Calli's King cover, they recently collabed on an original song that's a spiritual sequel, called 「Q」(they originally wanted to call it "Queen", but would have generated too may hits on Queen songs, so condensed it to just 「Q」). Gura and Calli are both members of Hololive EN, Calli is from Texas and is a professional rapper when not on Hololive, whereas Gura is the #1 VTuber in the world, and is infamously cute and bratty. Calli lives in Japan and is fluent in Japanese, whereas Gura has basic proficiency in Japanese but nails all her lines. The MV was animated by a single guy, and yes, they finally get to do the fistbump at the end. Diving deeper into the Vtuber rabbit hole, Australian Hololive EN VTuber Hakos Baelz recently released her own song/MV "Play Dice", by Japanese EDM composer Camellia, which is also worth experiencing.

I'm guessing you don't know about Vocaloids, like Hatsune Miku? Because yeah, the original from Kanaria uses the Vocaloid named Gumi -- so indeed, it's not human, but a Vocaloid, which is indeed music software, as you suspected. It's a software that allows for programming vocal songs using prerecorded syllables, and is how a lot of independent music producers in Japan (and worldwide, at this point) have gotten their start.
@ravenclawreacts3 жыл бұрын
You would be correct! Although having read this and other comments, I've embarked on a crash course. The concept itself is pretty awesome, but also how crazy popular Vocaloid songs are on the jpop scene is fascinating.

@@Wyrdwad Vocaloid influences so much that it's probably one of the biggest influence in anime-jpop recently. this is mostly just stream of conscious rambling. so sorry if its a bit hard to read and quite long xD Wow! I hadn't listened to Towa's before, that was quite something to listen to! Brilliant catch on that B flat. Interestingly, Risu is quite well known for her vocal range, both talking and singing. I think part of that, is she does most of her speaking in a very high pitched cutesy voice, but is able to pull out a much deeper, sultry voice at the drop of a hat. Tho from memory im not sure how deep that is, compared to the average female voice. the gap between the two is pretty incredible though. No worries about describing Ayame repeatedly with Cute. everyone else does that too xD Interesting that you should compare Reine and Risu as both having a pop quality to their voice. Though I have no clue if it actually has any bearing at all on this, they do have a connection in that they're both from Hololive's Indonesian branch. Although I have no clue if that actually has anything to do with it, or if it's just a coincidence. could be either. Gura and Cali's cover of king is quite something. that's to be sure. Cali is the one handling the rapping, she's a *very* accomplished rapper and songwriter. Though both of them are excellent singers. I'm sure someone has already explained GUMI and vocaloids at this point, in the comments. It's really interesting where you said though, that 'everything is so chopped up and mixed together. where she's pronouncing every single syllable. like they spliced together each of the japanese syllables with music software.' because you were basically spot on! That's almost exactly how vocaloid works. I'd love to say that that sound is a stylistic choice, (and have no doubt vocaloid is capable of sounding very much like a real voice in the right hands) but well, the software is very hard to tune well, and so a lot of songs go for a more robotic sound simply because it's easier to make, rather than sound better. I'd like to mention that, while most will explain vocaloid as a singing software that anyone can use (which it is) it might be better to think of the singer's voice like an instrument. A very good producer can manipulate Gumi, or any other vocaloids voice, in a huge variety of ways, to sing sweetly, softly, harshly, realistically... any number of ways. However someone who is inexperienced with the software will have difficulty getting the voice they want, and it often comes off as unatural or robotic. However a lot of people make that sound work in their songs very well... so overall its very complex. I should also mention that vocaloid is very popular in part, because it has a massively strong indie scene, because any producer can have a variety of well known 'singers' who will gladly work on any song, regardless of skill or content or fame. Honestly, vocaloid is a whole 'nuther rabbit hole, one that's near and dear to my heart. But is also pretty off topic for this vid, so I'll leave it there. With the last piece of advice that vocaloid music is hugely varied and come in every genera under the sun, from pop to punk to metal to jazz, and every producer has a different style of tuning their chosen vocaloids. If you're interested. I would suggest looking at MitchieM (famous for realistic tuned pop songs), PinochioP (my personal favorite producer) and maybe stuff like Giga, or songs like Lagtrain or Roki. 15:15 'I like when singer's sort of vary their tone a lot, even just within a song.' If you're interested in suggestions for further songs... That brought to mind another song sung by a hololiver, Houshou Marine's 'Unison' which is a very very unique song. It has at least four separate tones, though more subtle than the feat that Matsuri's 'King' showed off. As well as that, the song has prominent polyrhythms, treats marine's voice as another instrument.... and honestly is musically so above my head that I would love to hear someone as well versed as yourself break it down. (It also has incredible visuals and interesting lyrics, there's a *lot* in that song to unpack) Anyway, that shameless suggestion over, that was an *excellent reaction! I don't get to watch well made breakdowns of things im interested in very often, and im hugely impressed. Thank you so much for this surprise!

Ayee another insightful post! By now you will be well aware I'm maaybe slightly more into this rabbit hole than I intended to be, so it is very helpful to have suggestions to work off of. Probably some of the comments already clarified but wanted to share that Kanaria is the producer of the song while the one singing: GUMI is actually a vocaloid which is basically a singer made in software or a singing synthesizer which is why it doesn't sound like a person at all because they aren't but there are many different vocaloids singers out there and they can sound different from each other too. I can kinda understand why hearing vocaloid vocals can be surprising for a lot but after giving more songs a listen it really delivers a different type of listening experience and a lot of the stuff the producers make are genuinely solid but for me I would definitely prefer the covers of the hologirls.

I've just arrived here through the power of the KZbin recommended videos algorithm, and I have to say that was an absolute pleasure of a couple of hours (between this and going back to your Kanata reaction video). It's seriously so wholesome and faith-restoring to see someone truly giving a new thing a chance, and taking it seriously. By which I don't mean not having fun with it, but that you treat the impact these people have on the lives of many, their incredible talents, and the variety of the people themselves with the respect they deserve! It's so easy for people to look in from the outside and not give it the time of day; assuming a toxic culture, throwing around the "simp" accusations, just not seeing things for what they truly are for many people; but you took the time and gave the thought to explore this, and I thank you for that. You are evidently a very skilled and talented musician and musical theorist, and yet you aren't in any way a snob about anything presented to you - it's so common for people with training and passion in fine arts of any kind to diminish the value of anything outside of their field, but here you were, getting genuinely hyped up over a dub-remix; and why the hell not? All music and all art has its place and its value, and I love and respect it all too! In conclusion, I just think you're a very cool human being and I'd love to see and hear your reactions and deeper musical knowledge than mine turned to the rest of what the world of Hololive has to offer! Anything from pop to rap, vocaloid to celtic/waltz fusion, there's a lot out there from a lot of really talented Holomembers :)

"King" has to be one of the most covered songs in recent years; it's quite odd that Kanata pulled her version which is quite superb, but you can still find it mirrored around here. Guess I found a new channel to binge while at work. Great video, I really like your positive attitude and how you deconstructed the songs in such an easy to understand way. Thank you

After seeing your reaction to Suisei and Towa, I now really want to see your reaction to the glory that is SuiseiTowa duet. On Towa's channel they did a duet of haiiro to ao that's just phenomenal.

Having listened to this an unhealthy number of times and being a moderate Hoshiyomi, it's really fun how much of an impact Suisei had while sounding like she was on the other side of a wall from her mic. The "she got out of bed and recorded this" bit might not be far off the truth; I can't imagine a studio would muffle their mic that much. Though I also have a _very_ fleeting memory (like, 95% chance I'm misremembering) that this cover was recorded when she was suffering a lot of vocal pain and that was one of the main drivers of the tone shift down; while she already includes a lot of those "harsh stops" that Raven equates to the sword through the air in her natural/unhindered singing style, to my unprofessional-but-spent-all-of-school-in-choir ear a few of them sound almost like a crack before crying or forcing out a last note before pain makes her cut her take. The section at 49:37 strikes me the most: the last syllable of "mukidashite" (just before the pa-pa-pa) is strained and falls ever so slightly flat, the following "jamakusai" is similarly strained, then the last syllable of "tsukidashite" (just before the final pa-pa-pa) sounds like she's on the edge of tears, her throat almost completely closed up, she doesn't sing the whole length of the note, and is even further down in pitch than the former; it doesn't sound like it's autotuned, but almost like something was put behind her (like a backup vocalist kind of thing) to "harmonize" it up a little bit. Or I did indeed misremember and she's just hamming up the edginess of the song. Both are entirely possible and plausible with Suisei. I pray that the surgery she just had on her throat heals well and eases the pain she endures regardless.

It was a lot of fun seeing your take on all the different covers. I would love to see you dive into the different artists of hololive even further!

That moment at 49:56 when she was pierced by Suisei's voice ... impressive.

Roboco is really playful with her line delivery and I love that about her singing. You should check out her cover of Bocca della Verita, easily one of my favorite covers.

Love your channel! Also I love how everyone is holding the "King's" crown in their lap except for Suisei, who appropriately has her own original crown.

If you liked Suisei, i'd recommend hearing her collab cover song of "Saikai" with Moona Hoshinova. Their voices together are incredible.

It is interesting to see someone that has obviously not been in touch with Hololive before, but is very good at this type of analysis, find the nuances of these girls in one song that take the average viewer severals streams to discover. The choice of words used for each of the girls is surprisingly on point.

That was such a fun video! As many have said, you managed to grasp the girls' characterstics pretty much perfectly. Particularly Suisei. It's almost scary. Can't wait for you to check out more songs by Suisei and Calli in particular. For Mori, it will be all the more fun if you listen to her songs chronologically, to see how she progresses from deadly-yet-lighthearted rapping to more sentimental, deeper vibes. (Although her last song is actually another superfun duet with Gura, an original song and animation this time.) You should also check out Holo ID's Moona Hoshinova. Her range, power and capability to deliver it all on livestreams probably rivals Suisei.
