Shork is right but kiwawa hitting the feels. Sometimes you know something might be wrong but feel the need to do it anyway. It's not always about being correct as much as it's about being true to one self.

While Gura and you are technically correct, I still won't say "aiern"". Like, literally, go to google translate and paste/type "aiern . iron" and listen to the TTS lady. They sound the same. If you want the element called "iron" to sound like "aiern", then write it like "aiern", not "iron"!!! Anyone see the word written somewhere and never have heard it in their life, they'll 99% pronounce it like "i-ron", since that's what makes sense with the shown letters. It's also IRONic that ironic is pronounced as it should be while iron isn't... A common counterpoint I'm often presented is "oiseaux" in French being pronounced "wazo"... In French we have rules that actually matter! You may argue that we have too many rules, and you may be right, but they are there at least... Except for the genders of the objects, these things are random, sorry (I also think this should be made better...). In French, we have diphthongs and triphtongues that are basically always the same, which is also why many people think we have too many silent letters, they see the diphthong and don't understand that we NEED the two letters together to make a sound (we also have too many silent letters, but we have rules for them, again). *If you see "oi", it'll 99.9% of the time be pronounced "wa". *If you see "eau", it'll 99.9% of the time be pronounced "o". *An "s" between two vowels will 99% of the time be pronounced as a "z" (the exceptions mainly coming from foreign words that are still pronounced as close as possible to their origins). *And in French, the last consonant is 99% of the time NOT pronounced, unless it is in a diphthong (for example, in "aimer", the "r" combines with "e" to make the "é" sound, so while the "r" is not pronounced, it becomes part of the last sound). And there are not that many diphthongs, so it's not hard at all to learn. So the "x" is just not pronounced". So, anyone knowing these rules (and we learn them REALLY quickly) will almost instantly know that word is pronounced "wazo". Like, if I write "pneumartienmouffleurinageaint", a made-up word I just came up with, easily 95%+ of the French speakers would know how to pronounce it correctly (after questioning themselves why I'd ask them to read that abomination, of course, and probably a short pause in one or two places). Like, while writing this, I just literally sent that word to two friends in a Discord call and both got it first try. Sure, that's not a very big sample, but my point stands. While "iron" and "ironic" are not pronounced the same way and you have no way to know that before someone tells you how it "Iron" is pronounced (and there's also "irone", a perfumery chemical pronounced like /aɪˈrəʊn/)... That concludes my presentation against pronouncing "iron" as "aiern", thank you.
