it's extremely funny characterization too. Because Boimler is SO by the book, he automatically powers through the tests. They're designed by someone who's never faced the reality of life in Starfleet in space. Boimler's own by-the-book-ness is at once holding him back in his career AND makes him uniquely suited to facing this exact scenario. It affirm's Treks enduring ethos (diversity is good), illuminates this character (he's so confined by his by-the-book thinking it holds him back in the early seasons) AND it's hilarious. Lower Decks is my favorite modern Trek because it balances these elements so well. The Half Hour animated Sitcom isn't my favorite format (and seems like a strange format for something that's more formal in tone like Trek) but these writers really manage this well. I'm constantly delighted

@grifonecoronato
@grifonecoronato 2 жыл бұрын
@@elonwhatever I'm probably going to explain it wrong, but I'll try... In the BDSM / Kink, Doms have a reputation for insisting that their subs stay hydrated. It's a part of aftercare, which is a super important element of kink in which the partners check in on each other after a scene, talk about what they enjoyed and what they'd rather do differently next time, and manage what's called "sub-drop", which is a hormone imbalance that can occur after intense scenes. The sub's brain literally releases almost its entire reserve of pleasure hormones oxytocin and dopamine, which feels euphoric in the moment, but will then leave the sub feeling weak and depressed until the brain has the time and nutrients necessary to replenish and stabilize those hormone levels again. Drinking water and staying hydrated helps to manage sub-drop. But subs -- particularly brats, which is a kind of sub that get satisfaction by defying their Dom's wishes -- also have a reputation of refusing to drink water as a matter of stubborn principle. So when the Borg Queen comments on Boymler's skin not being very hydrated, while he's strapped down, it echoes the stereotypical admonishing in D/s relationships.

Man, this shows Boimler is probably one of the BEST personnel in the Cerritos, maybe even in all the California-Class ships. The entire crew was put through simulations which were tampered with to be practically undoable, and yet not only was he the only one to pass, he actually aced an impossible scenario. Neither the entirety of command, nor even Mariner who's been shown to be highly trained, came even close to matching him.

I've always found it strange that the borg don't *beam people directly aboard* their cubes to assimilate them in isolated, confined jails and treatment rooms. they already have tractor beams that drain shields (which are the primary defense against transporter beams) you'd think they'd capture ships instead of slicing holes through their nacelles, assimilate the crew, and then once the biological/technological distinction belongs to the collective, they can utilize the borg-ified crew's knowledge to better understand and assimilate the ships and eventually the entire civilizations. as proven by Picard's assimilation, by taking over the crew you've got *everything* that crew member had; memories, secret codes/passwords that might let you infiltrate restricted areas, equipment and comprehension skills of that race's culture that can be used to better undermine them, etc. obviously this wouldn't work with a few species, such as Q, Changelings from the Dominion, species 8472, and the Dowud (in that case yeah they'd just have to start blasting) but it'd be worth a try for almost all the other alien powers we've seen in the show.

Question: Could the Holodeck replicate a Borg program so perfectly that it would actually assimilate its own original programming and take over the host vessel?

This ep shows that Boimler is actually a super competant Ensign, he still passed even first try. I love how Lower Decks doesnt have a group of idiots bad at their jobs, theyre idiots who are good at what they do, not perfect but theyre knowledged.

What I like about this specific scene, is that it shows Boimler is actually a highly skilled, intelligent, and competent Starfleet Officer. We can see through this scene that he really does have what it takes to be an exceptional Starfleet Captain. The only problem is, since Boimler knows he is in a simulation, there are no stakes. In the real world, with real consequences, Boimler panics, makes irrational decisions, and, quite frankly, he chokes. The only thing holding him back from being as accomplished as someone like Mariner is himself; his lack of confidence.

There was an episode where the captain made every crew member do their tasks in precisely 15 minutes. The pressure of having to do so much in such a short amount of time made everyone in the crew fail from fatigue..... EXCEPT Boimler 😂 he finishes all his tasks and requested more. Then when the crew got attacked by aliens he took them all out without even breaking a sweat By being so focused on the work he forgot all about his anxiety and it just shows how good he really is. Real captain material
