I will be there. Just looked at the list of tiers and it’s loaded this year. Looks like it’s going to be a great show.

Ok Shawn: Got my jig hooks and gold beads. I'm actually going to try these. If you read about a fly tyer in NY, that burst into flames, that would be me. LOL regards Linc

Hahaha!!! Once you go jig you never go back. My rule of thumb is if it fits on a jig hook it goes on a jig hook. I tend to hook most of my fish in the really hard upper lip of the fish which seems to hold a barbless hook better. At least it’s not forest fire season if you do burst into flames.

@@HolsingersFlyShop OK But I don't have a Euro rod to fish so I'm going to have to use my 9' 5 wt. I'm gonna give it a shot. I'm going to carry a small fire extinguisher just in case of emergency. I could just roll in the water right?

@@lincolnparmer9708 we started my son out with his 8’ 4wt and he did just fine. The casting is a lot easier with the 10’ rods. It’s more about the leader setup and getting your flies to the bottom. I’ve actually been using a 9’ 5 wt lately to use a technique called floating the sighter. The stiffer rod makes for a better tuck cast.
@lincolnparmer97082 жыл бұрын
@@HolsingersFlyShop Do you have a basic leader formulae for a 9' 5 wt? Thank you Linc
@HolsingersFlyShop2 жыл бұрын
@@lincolnparmer9708 the leader I’m using on my 9’ 5wt to float the sighter is a not the best leader for tightlining but it will work. It’s meant to tuck cast nice and float well. Here’s what I use 30’ of 20lb maxima chameleon, 3’ of 14lb yellow Suffex mono, 2’ 10lb yellow suffex mono, 12” of 5lb clear maxima, then I tie on a tippet ring. From the tippet ring I finish with 6X or 7X tippet equal to 1 1/2 times the depth of the water from fly to where 5lb mono meets 10lb Suffex

When you gonna be up steelhead alley? I owe you a beer or two with how many fish your videos have helped me catch lol

I actually was supposed to be there today but we backed out. Kinda wishing we didn’t now. It’s a 3.5 hour drive for me. I was only making a day trip and wasn’t sure it was gonna be worth a tank of $4/gallon gas. I’ll be up soon though

Med.pardo CDL is impossible to get right now !! I'm out an am in need solid pattern tho
@HolsingersFlyShop2 жыл бұрын
Don’t get caught up in the Med, light, dark. There is not a lot of difference and the birds vary from feather to feather also. Just try to find the CDL feathers. The reason I use the medium in my videos is because I have a full saddle (which is 1/2-3/4 gone now and will need replaced). I have lots of it that’s why I use that all the time. As I type this we have a dark pardo saddle (which looks the same color as my medium pardo) and we also have tailing packs in Ginger, Grizzly and white. For an average tier the saddle will last a lifetime or two. However it’s a better value, more feather per $.

Great looking fly. Ever use different colored beads?
@HolsingersFlyShop2 жыл бұрын
I’m going to be honest with you. I don’t get real excited about bead colors. I use what I have laying around. I think size and profile of the fly is more important, especially with nymphs. I many fish faster water where the trout have a split second to decide if it’s food or not. I definitely use other colors. I like to use the bead as a hot spot also so I will occasionally use bright colored beads

Shawn, do you the same hook for steelhead?
@HolsingersFlyShop2 жыл бұрын
I do use this hook for steelhead. I have found that the 10-14 sizes work best. I’ve found that with the 16 and smaller hooks you can’t horse the fish in. It is a smaller wire hook.
