I grew up in the 60s in Chicago and sang this hymn often while at Our Lady of the Snows grade school. I am still used to the thy and thee in the song instead of you and your. LOL Wonderful vid. TY😊👍

This is the ancient Catholic hymn, the Te Deum, for high feasts and great celebrations. This is a poor approximation of it. Only Catholics know how to sing it right.

Although the organist, choir, and congregation here are wonderful, the harmonization they are using is just dreadful compared to others which are available. It lacks the tension of the original...it sounds like it was harmonized by a Jesuit. Among other issues, it is missing the suspension on the first beat of the second measure which so many people know and love.

Not to mention they are singing slower than the organist is playing.

However, they ARE singing, which is a lot more than one can say of most RC churches I know anything about. BTW, the harmonization is the version in their hymnal, with many congregants singing in parts, except for the final stanza. Would you deny them that? It's amazing to me with what relentless fervour people feel that they simply MUST criticize. Sheesh!
