Your video is a breath of fresh air…. I have been saying the same thing for the past few months…. It is always good to hear someone else share your findings… Have you considered changing the valve return spring to a lighter one that is cut precisely to the exact length needed? Also changing the spring to a a more consistent spring (eg mizumi)… You can experiment with different spring weights until you find the one that balances perfectly…. I shoot 25m Benchrest and reduced my spring weight to the lightest spring, changed the valve return spring to the lightest and found that my standard deviation is consistently below 1…. I agree with you that the weight of the hammer is not as important as the preload… The key is to get the lightest hammer weight that can fully open your valve at your desired plenum pressure…

Thanks for the comment? Where do you get the lighter springs? I have not seen those available anywhere but would like to try them.

Fantastic content! I have both the maverick and the wild cat I have the VP in the maverick like yours. Funny my wild is compact bottle version and I have hardest time tuning my Maverick from what you just showed us centimeter or meters make a big difference. As soon as I’m able to bring my finances and budget back in order I will order two quick tune sets and hammers. Your system is Genius! Cheers from San Diego Calif 619😎

This has been one of the biggest misconceptions of these guns for a while. In some airguns with much larger hammer systems, you could use heavier hammers with lighter springs to get lighter cocking pressures and such, but with such minute differences in the weights on this style gun it is pretty useless. The preload is the key to getting high end and low end velocities and where you can make certain pressures viable. You could also accomplish the same thing with different spring lengths and strength, but it is a whole lot easier to know exactly which one you have in there when using an easy to measure hammer weight.

I believe the heavier the hammer holds the valve open longer.
@ShootingWithPhil20233 ай бұрын
You can tell how long the valve is held open by the max FPS. The velocity of the hammer is more important than the weight of the hammer because when you calculate the energy, the velocity is squared and weight is not.

So maybe you can clarify something. Your quick tune system which you sell on Ebay now. Basically turns a Maverick into an Impact lite? I own a Maverick VP so if I buy your kit then why would I want to spend more than 2K for an Impact? The reason for the Impact was the tooless external adjustability correct? Because if that's true then a Skout Epoch would be a better use of 2k.
@ShootingWithPhil20232 ай бұрын
Impact lite? Yes, mostly. There is an extra layer of adjustment with the Impact (valve adjuster). The Maverick/Wildcat is a simpler build as well. There are around 40 o-rings in the Maverick and closer to 70 o-rings for the Impact. The Epoch is about $800 more then the VP and there are used Mavericks/Wildcats available on Airgun Nation for an even lower price point. I like the idea of learning on the mechanical systems and then moving to the electronic systems. From what I have seen, both are good platforms.

I love the idea of the quick tune system. I'm slightly newer to pcps (as of last August) I own an original avenger in avenge X tactical and a FX Maverick sniper all in 22 caliber. That being said speaking about the flange width, would I be correct in assuming that if you added a brass washer or two or three depending on the width it would do the same thing as having a wider flange? Pretty much just adding a little bit more preload to the hammer spring?
@ShootingWithPhil20235 ай бұрын
Answer is yes. My first pcp was the Avenger BP, started at the beginning of last year.

I don't know if it's worth spending on a kit like this because the manufacturing quality of the FX Maverick and Wildcat is very poor, the worst defect is the barrel of these weapons, when it hits anywhere you lose the accuracy of the shots because the barrels are Very fragile, any touch takes them out of position, a shame, they should get rid of this naughty liner, and have good solid barrels like the CZ barrel with low twist which is also used for slugs, pellets should end up being out of use.
@blindj5 ай бұрын
I agree with you, I wish it was a little more sturdy but I have owned my Maverick since the end of December. I have put about 15K rounds through it so far and have only hit the barrel one time. I tipped it over on the bench because it got caught on my sweatshirt. P o i did shift about 1/2 in to the right @ 30yd . I put two clicks to the right on my scope it was dead on for about an hour then I cut the grass and did shooting the next morning and had to put two clicks back to the left (the exact original poi) and it has been perfect ever since. So I guess the thing is if you're not smacking your Barrel into things constantly you should be okay. And yes I do walk through the woods with my rifle I just try not to bang it into things.
@ShootingWithPhil20235 ай бұрын
Yes, that is the nature of their design. No worries though, aftermarket barrels will be available sooner or later. Maybe fx will offer a solid barrel like in the new DRS. I bet it's coming for folks that don't like the current system. Thanks for commenting!
