Just an observation, but it appears that the slight difference in FPS is down to the short wait you were 'occasionally' making between shots, this enabled the plenums to fill at different speeds, hence the slight difference in FPS. Keep up the good work, my .25 Maverick is all the better for your inputs.

@ShootingWithPhil20233 ай бұрын
So, yes and no. I see what you are saying but here are the two problems. 1) You would not be able to achieve the full 6.5mm's of range. Because you would have to take into account the thickness of the head of the screw you could never dial to "0" compression on the HS. Additionally, not sure if if the adjustment screw is aprox. 8mm long, which you would need for the full 6.5mm of total adjustment. 2) Second problem is, there is no way to mark where you are in the range with the adjustment screw. The micrometer head gives you the 650 individual, repeatable markings. So if you go from 25's to 34's you can easily get back to the ball park tune of each of those weights. Hope that answers your questions and thanks for commenting!

I have a Fx 3 wildcat .22 cal, 600 mm barrel. Upgraded with Sekhmet & Quick tune kit. I am trying to get my head around what a tuned rifle is. Are you trying to achieve a pre-determined velocity by pellet? If you're not particularly interested in one velocity but a narrow range of velocities for different pellet weights, why not use the HS adjustment at a given bar? (ie. The dope table for the .22 cal, pellet wts 14.3-16.0-18.13 suggests one can use a bar of +/- 70 and attain velocities of 929-912-860 respectively using different HS settings. What is the consequences of this? Is there a wide spread in accuracy? In your tuning video, you mentioned the need for balance between HS tension and second regulator bar reading. How do you determine this balance? Why is this necessary? Since you cannot adjust the second regultor to a lower the bar setting once you moved up the setting (without degasing), does that not limit the use of lighter pellets when you tune for a heavier pellet weight? Guess I'm a little confused. What I derive from all I've studied & read is to pick a pellet weight/ brand & stick with it, at least in the same comparable weight class, which may require minor HS adjustments. I hope you can help me with my questions. Thank you in advance for your help. Also, have you had a chance to update your dope table to include the AEA 21 gr pellet.? Woud love to get a hard copy or down loadable copy when updated.
@ShootingWithPhil20233 ай бұрын
For each pellet, you are trying to determine at what velocity it flies most accurately (smallest group). If you try to use 70 bar for all three weights you listed, the 16's might be accurate, but, the 14's and the 18's not so much. Just depends on your rifle and environmental conditions. You have to figure out where each weight is most accurate and produces the smallest group in your rifle. Once you have figured out the best pressure and HS setting for each weight, you can write it down on the tin of pellets. You will know you have a good balance between pressure and HS if you have a very low ES (single digit ES). This means the pressure and HS are in good balance and your rifle is running efficiently (efficiently means minimum waste air behind the pellet, this is why you have to back the HS off to 10-15 FPS lower then the maximum FPS). What you want to avoid is running too high a pressure for any HS setting. What will happen is that your ES will climb into double digits and eventually it will also affect your accuracy. When I got my .25 Maverick I thought I was going just set the 2nd reg @ 130 bar and be able to shoot 34's up to 930 FPS and 25's down to 870 FPS. It doesn't work like that. The 34's might get a single digit ES @ 930 FPS but when you try to shoot 25's at 870 FPS by adjusting the HS down, it really opened up to ES to 30 or greater. This is because a slight difference in plenum pressure will be magnified by a very low HS setting. Try this experiment with your rifle....Set the pressure to 115b, and try shooting the 16's at 880 FPS by backing off the HS gradually until you reach 880. What you should find is that your ES is significantly higher when you are shooting with varying time between shots. This is the magnification of small differences in plenum pressure. I came up with the Quick Tune System because I didn't know what weight I wanted to shoot. But, I wanted it to be exceptionally easy to go from one weight to another. Yes, will try to get the 21's updated on the dope table soon, but, I have to borrow Scott's barrel again.....LOL. Hope I answered most of your questions and message me again if you have any others.

How do you determine what velocity to start with in the tuning process? Do different pellet weights fly with more accuracy by velocity? What happens when you try to reduce the pressure in the pelham by turning the adjustment knob clockwise? Will it cause any damage?
@ShootingWithPhil20233 ай бұрын
I would start with the slowest velocity on the table and work you way up. Changing the velocity is the most common way to tune for accuracy. Yes, different weights will like different velocities. I believe FX recommends not to decrease the the plenum pressure more then 1/8 turn at a time. Fire a few times to get the reg set etc. I have found that I don't like going down in pressure when I am higher then say 90 bar (you can really feel how much torque it takes when you get to higher pressures, thus putting more wear on the reg). If you turn the reg clockwise it will put more wear on the reg components then turning them counter clockwise.

I wrote it down somewhere in my phone, but I can’t find it 🤷🏼♂️ I always seem to end up in the 88-91 range. Last time I tuned I never even turned on the Sekmet, I just adjusted until it felt anecdotally harmonic. It was at 88bar which ends up being 89-90 at home. I probably would have started the 18s at 910fps and gone towards 950. I do love that valve in the front of the Impact, it’s rad. Your tuning knob really isn’t that much different than the Quicktune system on the Impact either.. except the Impact you get to keep the powerwheel. What’s interesting is the two groups with the biggest ES and SDs 5:30 are pretty good. You’ll hear some pros say tight ES & SD aren’t that important, so long as it’s shooting good. Seems like those groups kind of validate that.

Remember, your impact has a 700mm barrel and my Wildcat has a 600mm barrel, so, your pressure should be lower then mine. If you Watch AEAC, he's a factory guy, he says to work the pressure up in accordance with the amount of FPE you are shooting. No need to shoot at 130 bar if 80 bar will do. My thought has been that the Maverick/Wildcat platforms are more simple then the Impact and probably better for someone who is new to PCP. Still have to get around to shooting the Crosman's at 100 yards @ 970. 970 is the best, correct?

But that's where playing around with different springs, hammer not just tension Yeah, I'm on board with the way AEAC tunes. Clearly he gets good results. But listen to his interviews of the pros, he acts ignorant to tuning which I like, because he doesn't say the answer he wants them to give like a news station. Most don't really tune the way he does. There's plenty of ways to skin a cat. Keep in mind I came from an unregulated gun. IMO those are way more difficult to tune. I was playing with different valve springs, hammer throw, hammer spring weights and tension, transfer port sizes, unregulated air, a barrel half as long, managing hammer bounce, etc.. and almost entirely without a chronograph, using a hand pump! 🤣 It's a lot to manage. Milking performance out of one of those things and get it to shoot well can be a bit of a chore. Kind of fun except the disassembling and degassing the whole gun 4-5 times a day sucked 🤣

Ok, I just shot that video. Will take me a few days to edit. How do you think it turned out?

@@ShootingWithPhil2023 the 80+ bar video? With stock internals I would suspect good.

@@ShootingWithPhil2023don’t most of the Pros shoot the 18 Heavy at 880? Only 10fps but I’ve seen crazier 😂

@@JohnHowerton223 yes stock internals. You'll have to wait for the results. Makes for a good comparison between Impact and Wildcat.
