Returning in the first week of July 2020 with my wife. It has been since Aug. 1980. Stationed at Site One, from Nov. '78 to Aug. '80 at Holy Loch. Aboard The U.S.S. Holland AS-32. Computer Operations S-7 Div. Overall, I loved my time in Scotland. I felt a spiritual connection with the entire country.

Visited this great area 70-71 during 2 patrols, SSBN602, gold crew. Stayed aboard USS Canopus during transition. Fond memory of the road from and to Prestwick Airport. Great times in Glasgow, Greenock, and Dunoon. Loved the children with their rosey cheeks, fish & chips, and all the kind locals.

Made 6 patrols on the USS George Washington SSBN 598 out of Holy Loch. Seen as much of Dunoon and Argyll area as I could. Took lots of photos,we even had to go into the floating dry dock before one of our patrols. We have decedents in my family from Scotland so it made all that more special. I still remember the year a very large storm blew through and as we drove to the tender from the Preswick Airport we seen alot of damaged homes and a lot of trees and chimneys blown down. Also remember the tour ships that came by especially the Granny Kempock.

I was with the boats (James Madison) in the early 70's. I thoroughly enjoyed the little time we had off to tour Scotland, I always have loved the place, the people, and the vast history of a great land. Will be back, and none to soon aye. You're a hardy bunch. To say I miss it is an understatement.

awesome , i read a declassified document that the james madison indeed collided with a back then soviet victor class sub 1974 , the UK and US authorities managed to keep it hush hush for decades, thankfully both vessels managed to limp back to their home ports.

Nice footage of a beautiful face. Sad to know the USN is not there anymore. Just doesn't seem right about not seeing the Navy there. When I first got there, I cursed the day, but ended up making the most of it. Thanks Rob and Karen for giving me a refuge off the ship, now and then. Enjoyed the wonderful concerts there, and the woods and castles! Hello my old friends! Dale E.

Question, was the water level in the Loch low that year? And also, who's submarine is that at 3:53?

Are you saying that the locals miss all the money we poured into their businesses all those years? But probably not missing all the dang yanks hanging around, huh?
