Holy Operatic Batman! Reaction to Nightwish - Phantom of the Opera

This is my reaction to Phantom of the Opera by Nightwish. After recording I investigated and it actually is a rock version of the song from Broadway play. Thats how Nightwish got noticed and became big, was because of the symphonic Metal/Opera with Tarja's unique voice. Tuomas (keyboards) founder along with Tarja and Emmpu (guitarist) also as co-founders. Tuomas was going toward acoustic/folk with female singer, but when asked Tarja to join the band and heard her sing, he and the guys were shocked of how dramatic and powerful her voice and took a different direction and that's how Nightwish was born otherwise if it wasn't for Tarja's voice, this band wouldn't have existed nor doors open for other singers. This band got famous because of the combination of Metal/Opera with Tarja voice which works so well. Tuomas and Tarja know each other since the age of 12 and from same town and school. Hello Dad [ Being Dad ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Helsinki in 2005, then together with Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tar-rya], the 1st female singer of the band, and Marco Hietala, bassist and singer. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile). There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). This is their 1st vocalist Tarja (1996-2005). Floor is their current vocalists. Definitely from the Broadway show.

Welcome to Nightwish and symphonic metal. They are from Finland, been around since 1996. Their 10th studio album will be out in Sep. This performance was in Helsinki, Oct 21 2005(End of an Era DVD). Seen here is original lead singer Tarja Turunen, the most operatic of the 3 female lead singers. This concert was her last Nightwish show after 9 years and 5 albums. She was fired after the concert, but has gone on to a long and successful solo career. Floor is the 3rd and current lead singer. Keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen is the mastermind, writing and composing 90-95% of the songs. He did the arrangement on this. Male vocals here, by now former bassist, Marko Hietala(2001-2021) Yes, the Broadway musical , Phantom of the Opera, composed by Andrew Lloyd Weber. Mr. Weber has seen this, and loved it. They do have more rock songs, every song is different. Most start with "Ghost Love Score" live at Wacken 2013 (with Floor), but for a heavier and more rock sound try "Romanticide" also live at Wacken. Definitely avoid the fan shot version of "Show Them" from Band Maid/The Warning, those that have reacted to it, many have gotten copyright strikes.

Floor Jansen is not in this video. She did not become a part of Nightwish until 7 years after this concert. The woman in this video is, Tarja. She co-founded Nightwish with keyboardist Tuomas in 1996. She was fired by the band in October of 2005. After her termination, she went on to a very successful solo career, and is currently on her world tour.

if you really want hard dark spell-binding Tarja (and Marko too) with Nightwish: (Tarja, our s'xy spell-binding gothic vampire dark queen, especially in these early performances, when she's still quite young) (even some rocking on invisible guitar, head windmills, and etc theatrics too) (oh, does Tarja have amazing stage presence, easily as much as Floor, but with some songs with nightwish, she's been a bit more restrained, and for all songs with nightwish, she lets the entire band shine, instead of it just being about her, like it mostly is with Floor, Tarja is absolutely NOT a "selfish diva", never has been, not with nightwish, not with anyone else) (remember, the concerts/albums/covers must be BEFORE 2006, for Tarja's performances) (not ranked, just listed) 1. Slaying the Dreamer 2. Planet Hell 3. Wishmaster 4. Kinslayer 5. Ghost Love Score 6. The Siren 7. End of All Hope 8. Dead to the World 9. 10th Man Down -------------- and there' also her recent 'Dark Christmas' album, I personally love the 'frosty the snowman' song in it the best (need to watch a vid with the visuals, as she does a really good job, and not a vid just with the lyrics/singing), so fkn epic, Tarja the s'xy dark evil queen, grins, hehe --------- and there's also her 'supremacy' (for muse's cover) song as well too, in woodstock 2016, if you really want to see her operatic/classic range in singing

Her name is Tarja Turunen and her rich dark classical vocals helped Nightwish to define the genre of symphonic metal!! She was the original singer and co-founder of the band. As you dive into this band, please keep in mind that most of the songs that their current singer Floor is singing were first sung by Tarja or the second singer Anette Olzon. I am sure you will get requests for Floor reactions only but if you truly want to know the band please consider reacting to all 3 female singers and not just Floor
