Tarja had a flu on that concert day, she wasn't quite at her best but did very good job nevertheless. About vocalist changes; basically Tarja and her husband/manager and rest of the band (and their management) were pulling in different directions. Tarja was replaced by Anette Olzon, who was pure rock/pop vocalist with some musical theater background. Wonderful singer on her own, but maybe not best fit for Nightwish. On 2012 Imaginaerum-tour, she had some health issues and she was also pregnant. Because NA tour was very important for a band, they didn't want to cancel any shows but use temporary vocalists instead. Shit basically hit the fan in Denver, where the audience was already inside the venue - Alissa White Gluz and Elize Ryd came to rescue and they had quite unusual "karaoke night". Anette was very upset about temporary replacements, and she also knew that Floor Jansen was coming to help the band for the rest of the tour if needed (Floor had 48 hours to learn the whole setlist). I don't think that sit well with Anette either, so once again personal differences were so fundamental that they had to part ways with the singer. Floor did amazing job for the rest of the Imaginaerum-tour, and after the tour Floor Jansen and multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley became permanet members of the band. My opinion about line-up changes: those are natural for a band which has been around for 20 years. Personal differences, health issues, you name it. Those things happen. But, they handled situation with Tarja poorly, causing unnecessary drama with that "open letter" to Tarja, media and fans. I don't know what they could have done differently with Anette though. Cancel the tour? Anyway, Floor has been in a band for 6 years now and everything seems to be going smoothly and professionally. It's like they are finally complete band, with everybody on the same page, and pulling in same direction.

That's a hard question - why did Tarja leave. You will get so many answers from one side and the other side, believe me. But long story short - the band had been together at that point for 9 years and since they all were young, lots of stupid things happened - like lots of alcohol and partying - Tarja (the singer) were never a fan of this, so she found a solace of one south american manager who started to manage her business life, including her role in the band. In the end, it didn't sit well with the other band members, specially when her and her manager were grearing up for her solo career and they fired her with an open letter. It was a huge scandal in Finland and it took the band many years to recover. They also had a middle singer Anette (who was really good at albums but not soo good live) and they fired her almost on the same reasons as Tarja - what she wanted and the band wanted were two different things. Since Anette was fired in the middle of the tour, they flew in Floor Jansen from The Netherlands (their old friend) to finish up the Imaginaerum tour. Since everything worked well with the band and she fit in the band like a glove (just like she was meant to be the singer of Nightwish), they asked her to stay, which she did. Floor has been the singer now since 2012. I really enjoyed your reaction to the video, it made me smile so hard. Thank you!

@@Aurinkohirvi I'm a "zealous Floor fan" but I disagree with your statement completely. I happen to think Annette was/is a very good singer; she'd not have been in Nightwish if she was not. The problem with Anette was not that she was not a good vocalist, but rather that her style was too poppy for the band. Especially after Tarja, who is a classically trained singer. Also, Annette is a mezzo-soprano, so her range is different; a little lower. It was difficult for her to sing songs written for Tarja and the range Tarja has. For example, if you listen to Ever Dream with Annette singing, she has to drop her voice into a lower register where Tarja sang the higher notes. I presume that many fans heard this (and other situations where the song was altered to fit Annette's vocal range) as "not being good live." This has nothing to do with her quality as a singer, which a lot of people seem to misunderstand, but her natural range being what it is. People have a set limit on their range. this has to do with the vocal chords, not someone's ability. Someone can improve their effective range by training the higher and lower extremes of their range to be stronger. However, they cannot extend past that set limit; a limit imposed upon them by their very anatomy. In short, while Annette is a fantastic singer, she was a poor fit for the band.

If you look at the men when they perform Sleeping Sun, where their part is little compared to Tarja's, you realize how much they are into instruments and how little they are into voice. Marco is ok though , but I believe their collective ego fired Tarja . Maybe Tarja's husband had his part in that event . Maybe she went diva, I do not know, but clearly their ego is as high as The Empire State Building.

@@Aurinkohirvi I like anette on her two albums, and a lot of her live stuff is really good too. But a lot of it isn't as well. The live stuff I've watched with her seems very inconsistent, some days she was brilliant, other days, not so much. Consistency is key for a good live performer, even more than outright ability like Tarja or Floor I think. In the studio you have as many times as you like to get it just right. Live, you only have one. A band the size and musical style of Nightwish can't afford (in my opinion) to have a singer that's all over the place live.

Hi; I loved your reaction. Here is the answer of the question. The first lady (Tarja Turunen) was fired because things didn't worked as they wanted and a lot changed since she married in 2000. In fact, this is her last concert with them in 2005. She was notified by an open letter. In 2007, Anette Olzon was the second singer and things didn't worked again because she isn't a classical singer, so fans tried to bash her a lot. She was fired in 2012 and the circumstances are still a bit tricky because she was fired in a middle of a tour, pregnant and she was really sick when they decided to perform without her. She made a last concert in October of that year. The following night, Floor Jansen (The one in the Ghost love socre video) filled for her and she had better luck. Fans loved her because her long career with her previous band After Forever, and as you saw, she is classical trained, but also has a lot of pop and rock elements in her singing. Hope this can clarify your question. Thank you for the video and I recomend you for the next: Nightwish The Siren Live at Gampel Open air 2008 with her second vocalist Anette Olzon.
@trene65595 жыл бұрын
This vocalist, Tarja Turunen, was fired from the band with an open letter directly after this concert back in 2005. She had been with the band since the start in 1996. As one might assume, a lot of drama ensued. (Still somewhat ongoing, by the way.) Two years later, in 2007, they hired Anette Olsson. Anette was fired in 2012 during the Imaginaerum tour in the US. Floor Jansen was then asked to step in, starting on their next concert. In two days. She accepted, and is still their current vocalist.

@TheBlackiwid You're correct. She was going to leave anyway, so they asked her to leave before she left of her own free will. Either way, it was coming to an end. The main problem was the way in which it was handled, not the fact she left. She was going to do that anyway.
@Aurinkohirvi5 жыл бұрын
Well I've listened Tarja's hour and a half long Finnish press confrence where she goes very detailed on what was happening in the band, why she left, and issued in the letter. In her opinon the main problem was the world tours. They were having several gigs each week during the tour, and Tarja felt it was too much for her voice and her health: she wanted to cut the amount of the gigs, but the band wanted to keep the gigs. This divided them into two opposing camps. Because Tarja saw that she can't do such world tours any more, she gave her notice to the band: she said she will retire after next album's world tour. And that she would not tour next time but tops two weeks at a time (found also in the open letter, where this attitude was found problematic by the band). There may be also reasons that were not told in the letter nor in Tarja's press confrence. Jealousy could be one of them. In his answers to Nightwish fans Tarja's husband Marcelo twice says Tuomas was romantically interested in Tarja, and claims he had a talk about it with Tuomas too. This is quite a popular and well known theme among NW fans.
@Aurinkohirvi5 жыл бұрын
Tarja was studying classical singing when she got invited into a band by her former school mates, and they decided to go symphonic metal to fit music for her voice. Her first 3 albums she sang classical style, but they changed her singing style into more contemporary style in her two last albums (change I really didn't fancy). Tarja and the band had problems in the world tours, it's mentioned both in the open letter - the band wrote a letter as an explanation why they fired her - and in the press confrence Tarja gave a bit after, she thought that the touring was behind the problems they had. Tarja and her husband-agent tried to get Nightwish reduce the amount of gigs, because she felt her voice and health couldn't take several gigs every week, but the band wanted to keep the gigs: that divided them into two camps. There is this quite popular theory too, that this "Jack Sparrow" there, Tuomas, the composer of Nightwish songs, had a romantic interest on Tarja, but she married another one, and jealousy stepped in. Tarja's husband in fact said in his letter's to Nightwish fans twice that this was so, and he even discussed about it with Tuomas. Anyway, Tarja had already told she would retire the band after the next album's world tour. But they fired her in advance before that next album, right after this concert. So she wasn't disapointed that she got fired, she was already leaving. But she was disapoined on the way the firing was done, and that the relationships in the band had gone so bad they gave her a letter instead talking to her (that's the part where she cried in her press confrence). The firing and the open letter left a bad taste in everyone's mouth, and poisoned the fandom for a long time. There was some really rude things said, and I do regard it a biased and misleading letter, which left things unsaid. Tarja's one and a half hours long press confrence on the contrary was quite detailed.

IMHO it is sad that nearly all Tarja reactions come from this End of an Era concert. Understandable, as it was the only live concert they fully recorded in Tarja's era. Because they had changed Tarja's singing style from classical to more contemporary in her two last albums, and this is her very last concert where she sings a lot that style. But she sings much more beautiful in classical style than contemporary. Much better Tarja's live songs IMHO you could find for example in Tampere Pakkahuone concert, when she still sang classical style.

The Phantom's character is twisted, corrupted, evil. Christine is pure, angelic and good. This is what didn't make sense to me in most versions, you need a "demon", you can't have two angels. You need the Phantom to SOUND twisted, a voice that is beautiful in the same disturbing way Goya's "Saturn Devouring His Son" is beautiful. Also the "anxiety" created by the band emphasized Christine's struggle and catharsis when hitting her highest note. It seems to me that with all it's flaws, this is one of the better versions of this piece. Not the best, but it has a lot of things to teach.

First- Thank you so much for reacting to more Nightwish! Marco, the bassist singing the male part here, also sings backup on several other songs. He sings lead on The Islander, which you could take a look at live at Tempere! I'd highly recommend it, it shows off even more of what he can do and is a nice change of pace for Nightwish. Tarja was the original singer for Nightwish, and she was childhood friends with Jukka (Drums up until recently) and Tuomas ('Jack Sparrow', keys, and composer). She left the band somewhat dramatically in 2005 over professional differences (And some say because she was gearing up for a solo career anyway). The reasons why depend a lot on who you ask, but the summation is that she and the other band members weren't getting along well enough to perform anymore. Anette was chosen after Tarja left. She stayed from 2007 - 2012, but also wound up having differences with the band. (I'm sure someone else will go into that whole thing, I don't know enough about it to say- I'm not a huge fan of Anette.) She left and was almost immediately replaced with Floor Jansen, whom the band had previously toured with. (Floor was with ReVamp at the time, I think?) Tuomas has said he had Floor in mind even before Anette officially left, and she finished that tour with them in her place. Floor and Troy were both invited to join the band formally in 2013 and have been with Nightwish since then. Plenty of us Nightwish fans have been listening since way back when Tarja sang lead, and to me, the important part is that the band is still going and they still have the same soul in their music as they always have. Whoever is singing lead, Tuomas is the real secret behind making Nightwish what it is. Even if Floor left (And I really hope she never does, because I love her!) I would still listen as long as Tuomas was the one writing the songs.

I don't consider myself a fan of nightwish but I always liked the band since I was 16 or something, I'v heard some of the history of the band and as I understand, they let Tarja go because of her attitude she was to sum it up a bit of a diva, not attending to band meetings and rehearsals, apathetic with other members of the band, so Toumas ("Jacksparrow") which is the composer and keyboardist of the band and old friend of Tarja decided to let her go, in fact this concert was the last one they had, in one of the songs of this same concert I can't remember which one you can see him almost crying, after that they got Anette Olzon which didn't lasted too long and then Floor Jansen, Toumas actually felt really bad about the Tarja situation that he felt depressed and a bit suicidal, so he composed a song base on his feelings in those hard moments "The poet and the pendulum", which is actually a really good song to react to (I especially like the live version sang by Floor instead of Anette).

Also.. as you said she didnt show up to the rehearsals, and was quite much in Argentina. During the last years there were also presented some plans of going solo, which made them even more insecure about the future, so i Guess they didnt see any other way out than firing her. Thus this was a deicision done by the Whole band, Tuomas was the one who got the blame, and a Whole lot of hate-mail from angry "Tarja-fans".

A little one sided...or at least uneven. Never mind that Tuomas was infatuated with Tarja and resented she had married someone else....as reflected in several songs....or that the band was objecting to things like her not travelling on the tour bus....when they were drinking all the time, something she said she found it hard to be around....the apathy also can, in part, be explained by the band not being particularly friendly towards her husband. Any way you slice it, the way the band behaved, posting an open letter, not discussing things in private, hurling accusations and even reflecting a few things in songs in a rather unpleasant way (Master Passion Greed anyone) or a few of the things suggested int he open letter such as "cultural differences" were utterly unnecessary and wholly distasteful and immature....not to mention underhand and sneaky.

I really enjoy seeing someone who is not normally a metal fan, but who has musical training/musical knowledge, listening to Nightwish and enjoying it; potentially becoming a fan. All the musicians in Nightwish are very good. Likewise, Tuomas (the keyboardist aka 'Jack Sparrow') is a phenomenal composer; he writes roughly 90% of the band's material, including the arrangements that go to the symphonies and choirs that record with them. (I've heard they record with the London Symphony Orchestra but I am unsure what choir they use. They then use the prerecorded tracks in their live shows, which I imagine is a very difficult task for their tech person in charge of synching up the recorded tracks with the band's live playing.) Marko (the bassist who also sings) is a great singer as well. He harmonizes well with the ladies (all three different NW female lead vocalists). If you would like to hear more Marko, there are several recommendations, depending upon whether you wish to hear his distorted voice, or his clean vocals. He has a beautiful clean voice! Romanticide from Wacken 2013 is a good one for distorted, as is Yours Is An Empty Hope, from Wembley 2015. Clean, I'd recommend The Islander from Tampere. The comment about your seeing Jack Sparrow every time you looked at Tuomas made me literally laugh out loud. :-)

Tarja Turunen, the original singer - the one in the video, was kicked out of group after the concert you've just reacted to. It was a massive scandal in Finland. Tarja is a classically trained lyric soprano. And she often takes vocal lessons, because she is very respectful of her vocal instrument. She has been in the group for 10 years and due to her vocal abilities and the colour of her voice the group made their sound. Since the departure from the group she has released 4 solo albums (not counting Christmas and other classical albums). Some of the albums even went platinum. Nightwish is now on their 3rd singer if I'm not mistaken. There are rumours that the 2nd one was kicked out when she got pregnant. Would love it if you would react to more Tarja stuff. Her songs with Nightwish or her solo works (classical or not, she even made a classical album of different versions of Ave Maria). :) P.S. - the Jack Sparrow guy you mentioned is actually the leader of the band who writes most of their songs.

"There are rumours that the 2nd one was kicked out when she got pregnant." - The story is that she was kicked out, because she was mad that they performed live with two other singers, while she was sick, on their US tour. She wanted the concert to be cancelled, but they did not - she did not want people to pay for tickets and not get what they paid for.
@trene65595 жыл бұрын
Anette was fired when she was pregnant, yes. Was this the reason she got fired? I highly doubt that. However. They were in the middle of a tour that had another year left, with the finale as headliner on Wacken open air. Not making sure to absolutely protect yourself from getting pregnant mid tour is a rather irresponsible thing to do. But I still think the band would have been lenient towards this if the chemistry between her and the band was good. Was the pregnancy the sole reason? Probably not. Was it the straw that broke the camel's back? I think that would be a much more reasonable assumption. But in the end, these are little more than mere rumors and speculation.
@cree_VI5 жыл бұрын
They kicked second singer not of pregnancy, but because she become lazy, toxic, and so on. You just look at her performance and you will understood. If i would be Tuomas, i would kick her much earlier. I just don't like how they did that with both singers, little bit more respect would be better

When Anette was rushed to the ER from the concert venue, the guys were unsure what to do about the show. Tuomas and Troy walked to the stage and told the audience what was going on. Then they asked what the people, who had paid for the show, wanted them to do. The audience wanted to see them play even without Anette. Two female vocalists from the supporting bands started to go through the lyrics and sang what they could. Only a few people wanted their money back after the show. :)

You could look for "Amaranth" by Nightwish, there's a version with Anette Olzon, and a demo with Marko, the bass player you just heard. And damn it works, there are lotta metal band with sopranos ... try Therion ♥

Don't know if somebody has mentioned this already, but listen to Marco singing High Hopes (Pink Floyd). You wouldn't think those sort of vocals would work on a song so plaintive but it does and brilliantly.

on top of the fact Tarja was fighting a virus (and could barely sing during practice), Jukka (the drummer) was fending off a nasty migraine. Nightwish has performed when one or more of their members were sick and they hit such phenomenal performances. Also too Tarja speaks English as a fifth language at least so some of her vocals show it. Marko seems to blow people's socks off when they hear him full sing. Definitely recommend some of the songs he did lead on (Islander, While Their Lips are Still Red, Higher Hopes). To me, Marko was the real voice of Nightwish even if the female leads (Tarja, Anette and now Floor) are all top-tier in their craft.

This is apparently the wording of the letter sent by Nightwish's members to Tarja right after this concert/show (see link). It would seem that all the band members bar Tarja (and the audience/crowd) knew at the time that this was the end for her in the band. nightwish.fandom.com/wiki/Open_Letter_to_Tarja_Turunen

I am so happy u did this video after Nicole version. ***Let me fill out the facts of Nightwish. Tarja was the first female vocalist in this band. There were three in total. The band featured operatic vocal with symphonic metal which inspired other bands to follow. They were working great until Once , the album. The composer, spirit of the band, Jack Sparrow, wanted their direction to go more of a pop sound. Also, there were a lot of angry accusations against Tarja and her husband. Right after this tour, the video u just reacted, they kicked Tarja out of the band and published an open letter on the internet blaming Tarja for lots of reasons. Tarja was very upset and believed they were just making stuff up. Therefore, Tarja started off her solo career since then. Her vocal changed dramatically in recent years with a lot of dark chest voice and belting. U may listen to Tarja-Supremacy (Hellfest). After Tarja was kicked, they hired the infamous second vocalist, Anette. The sound changed drastically with a very poppy voice. Also, Anette was not able to sing a lot of high notes of the old NW songs. Fans weren't buying it. After second album with Anette, she left Nightwish because they continued the tour during her sick period without her permission. After Anette left in the middle of the tour, Nightwish hired Floor Jansen to fill the spot. She has to learn all the songs in less than 48 hours, of which there is a documentary of it, with the same title. With Floor's incredible and versatile singing in her previous band After Forever, Floor pulled off the Nightwish songs easily with her own interpretation and becomes the new favorite of the NW fans. She becomes the permanent member of Nightwish with all the hopes. If u want to know more, just ask! I am their die hard fan.

Let me reply to your comment. Anette's both albums have sold more than Floor's album. Her album is the most sold metal album ever in Nighwish's home country (5 x platinum by February 2010) and the only one that sold platinums outside Finland (Germany and Hungary). Most viewed KZbin NW-songs are from Anette. She is not the kind of catastrophe you paint she would have been. Tuoma's the composer said that Anette's first album saved Nightwish. He also said that fans took Anette better than he hoped to expect, because he knew there would be much criticism, as it was obvious they wouldn't go back to operatic style any more. But then, they changed away from operatic style already during Tarja, so Tuomas didn't consider Anette a big change to Tarja. Some zealous Tarja fans left, but then some people came in. Anette's sale numbers wouldn't have been possible had people forsaken Nightwish in great numbers: that is a myth repeated by Floor fans, which does not hold water. (Tuomas' actual quotes in the bottom of this comment). Look at them videos made about Anette's vocal range. Seems quite high to me (F6 and Bb6)! In fact them all Nightwish singers seem to be pretty close similar what comes to their vocal range. Tuomas composed Dark Passion Play album without knowing which singer they would hite to sing it. He said (can be found in album's Wikipedia page) that he felt liberating to compose without thinking the singer. Whom do they pick to sing these songs? From over 2000 girls that applied, they pick Anette. After she had sung these songs in studio acapella style with Nightwish. "I hear all those comments saying that this is a complete new start, that the album is something completely different, and I really disagree. The soul of the music, the orchestra and choir, heavy guitars, ballads - the same elements are still there, it's just the voice that has changed. And even though it's a completely different voice, I also think that we left out the opera two albums ago! Even Tarja wasn't singing with that style on "Century Child" and "Once" anymore, so is that change really that radical and dramatic - I don't think so, actually." www.blabbermouth.net/news/nightwish-mainman-talks-about-new-singer-upcoming-tour/ About hiring Anette Stalker: How were the reactions of fans so far? Tuomas: Very divided, which was to be expected, too, I mean, there's a lot of people who really like her, like "This was the perfect choice, she is not trying to copy Tarja at all, but she still has the emotion and the power in the voice, it's a good direction," and then there are the other people who think that Tarja was the only thing ever for NIGHTWISH and they are never going to listen to it again. Well, let them have their way, I have no problem with that. This is the way it's going to be, and especially when we're going to play the old songs live with her new voice, it's going to be a shocker for many people. Stalker: But I had a look at the band-website guestbook, and actually I noticed that the majority was pretty positive... Tuomas: Yeah, I'm kind of surprised, I was expecting much worse, so at least they are going to give her a chance, give US a chance. And there are surprisingly many people out there who have always enjoyed the music of the band, but never really liked Tarja's voice, because it was so high and loud and operatic. And they are like "Finally I can listen to this, because the singing is a bit easier to the ear." So there are a lot of those people as well. So for the fans we gonna lose, perhaps we gonna have new ones. www.blabbermouth.net/news/nightwish-mainman-talks-about-new-singer-upcoming-tour/

If I remember well that kind of rock singing is based on classical singing, just by hearing them the vibratos are quite similar, the way they belt are similar. I may be wrong tho. And I think that the fact that both were often on the same exact frequencies helped it work

Please no, not from this concert! Tarja sings much more beautiful in classical style than in contemporary style. She sings her first 3 albums in classical style, and her last 2 albums more contemporary style. This was her very last concert so she is in contemporary mode here. Not so pretty. Also she was very sick. Unfortunately this is the only live concert they recorded with Tarja, but there are some decent recordings for example from Tampere Pakkahuone concert, her classical period. Each song from there are much better than from End of an Era concert.

Tarja received a letter by the band during the end of their last tour, in which she was announced that she would no longer work with Nightwish. The reasons seemed a bit personal, related to her manager/husband and her character not being aligned with the values of the band. I don't know how true that letter was, and I don't really care about some of the accusations. Their last tour's DVD was named "End of an Era", so I believe it was premeditated by the band to be that way. Then they got Anette, who was probably a way to transition the band to sounds closer to Floor's (last singer) voice. After the way they broke their ties with Anette, I became more skeptical of the "open letter" approach to Tarja. Because, again it looked as a planned action to temporarily use Anette.

Great reaction! I am late replying. So for me, I love - adore really - Tarja's vowels in this. It's a little fanciful and different, and has such character. Obviously, her voice has such depth and resonance. And Marko - he is perfect for the Phantom, because for me, that part should be sung much more menacingly and with much more contrast than Christine. It just makes the Phantom that much better. You of course need to be able to sing up to Christine's range to be able to harmonize and make that work, and Marko can do it. The arrangement from Tuomos is amazing too. The constant tone during Christine's opening just sets the tone perfectly. This is the best performance of Phantom of the Opera I have ever heard. The heavier, rockier tone is also in my opinion better than what most productions do with it, although part of it is the high level of musicianship here. I think it should always be done this way and this is the bar to aspire to.

Great video, I love your low-key style. The reason it sounds like it was meant to be this way is because the original has a huge sound, there's an entire orchestra backing up the cast. Nightwish's version really keys into that, just amping up what is essentially a soft rock number into a harder style. And, yeah, that guy can just pound out the vocals; I really love his voice. It's so unique.

There are places in Marco's parts where he sings very cleanly - so you know the growl he mostly uses was a *choice*. I think it works wonderfully, it adds a primal menace to the Phantom part that is missing from the more classical versions. Yes, they really do make it seem like the song was meant to be done this way.

Nightwish had 3 singers so far. Tarja the woman in the video was from the original lineup and the best fit for the band if you ask me. The band kicked her out after this specific concert because as the rest of the members said they basically couldn't take her diva-like attitude and her husband /manager who was interfering in the band. To be honest, I think the main reason they kicked her out is the controlling personality of the leader/keyboardist of Nightwish. He's very talented, I love him and appreciate his music but he obviously wants things the way he wants them. It's his way or the hightway. That's why the band keeps changing singers. In my opinion kicking the original singer out was a huge mistake but oh well...
@Derpagrim5 жыл бұрын
Well, Tarja got kicked from Nightwish due to various stuff that I don't remember here and now. Then they found another singer - Anette Olzon. Then she was kicked from the band because she couldn't join up for the tour they we're having on very short notice. Probably other issues as well. So they called in Floor to join the tour with them. And then Floor became part of the band. This is the short version. I'm sure others will give a more descriptive version. :)

About the Tarja' departure, Tuomas wrote ¨The poet and the pendulum¨ This one particularly is pretty emotional, talks about himself during the time he had to let Tarja go and the depression he had about it besides the media storm he had to struggle. He divided the whole song into 5 parts, like a theatre play or something, pretty awaesome. The title of the song and some ideas are based on the work of Edgar Allan Poe "The pit and the pendulum" (The well and the pendulum), where a man waits in a dark room, empty and wet for his execution in the end dies beheaded by a blade that fell on his neck (that's why the sound of the blade before the last part of the song entitled "Mother and Father" begins) a half-moon blade balancing like a pendulum.
