The Fox God has sacrificed a J-pop idol and reborn into a metal goddess queen. We've been blessed by Kitsune-sama.🙌 -NotACult- 🦊🤘💀 And yup, Legend 1997 is a SuMetal birthyear reference and it was an exclusive concert to celebrate her 16th birthday, they also got a Legend 1999 concert celebrating YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday. This is usually the opening song for BM concerts (also the first song of the very first album) including recent live concerts at The Babyklok Tour around the US, but here they're using it as an ender for this show.

"The Fox God has sacrificed a J-pop idol and reborn into a metal goddess queen." Wrong. Suzuka, the J-pop idol collapsed and died on the stage. Period. No questions here except this one: are you blind? She died THEN her body was put on the cross and was resurrected by The Fox God.

Great reaction. Apparently there are still some people who claim BABYMETAL are not metal ... Yes this was the concert finale - just Su-metal celebrating her 16th birthday being crucified by her good friends while 8-9,000 fans chanted "Death Death Death" .... what did you do for your 16th birthday? They only crucify Su on special occasions (her 20th birthday had extra flames).🔥🔥🔥 They have brought 'BABYMETAL Death' back as the opening number for their concerts on the current US tour - they hadn't been playing it since 2017, but they have a new third member now, so they need to introduce themselves properly again when they start their shows.

As referenced a bit below, but not put into exact words, this song is a play on words. In Japanese, the phrase is "Su-Metal Desu." The 'u' sound is silent, so they are saying "Su-Metal Des", "Yui-Metal Des", "Moa-Metal Des", and "Babymetal Des". In Japanese, this means "I am Su-Metal", "I am Yui-Metal", "I am Moa-Metal", and "We are BabyMetal". If you have seen the end of many of their shows, they finish their shows with the English chant of "We are BabyMetal". But they appreciate the contrast between the song being both "BabyMetal Death" and "We are BabyMetal" at the same time. Also, for some context, there was some question about what would happen to BabyMetal at the time of this concert because Su-Metal was turning 16 and had aged out of Sakura Gakuin. This was showing the death of the human form of Sui, and the rebirth of Su-Metal the metal goddess. And yes, this song was the finale of the show, right after Headbanger. In concerts, they have used it as an intro most of the time, but they also used it to hype up before the final song in both the Clean Night and Black Night concerts. They did get some pushback for the imagery in this concert. Both the crosses, plus the toppling of the statue at the end that was supposed to be Su-Metal's face on a Virgin Mary-esque statue. Regardless, they know how to put on a show.
@denniseldridge2936
@denniseldridge2936 9 ай бұрын
I think the whole issue with the imagery is understandable, but of course in Japan such Christian cultural references don't run as deeply as they do here in the west. Koba essentially nicked a bunch of Christian themes and sort of threw them in a blender, but the result is brilliant of course lol.

Great reaction! The statue in the back collapses in the end as an homage to Metallica's "...And Justice For All", and the neck brace is an homage to Japanese metal band X Japan's drummer who injured his neck from headbanging so much that he had to wear a neck brace for a while.🤘🦊🤘

An interesting take posted on BABYMETAL REDDIT by VulpineDeity: Take it a step farther. Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase. Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I AM SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL. The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show. 🦊 🖖 ❤

That's a very interesting idea! Reminds me of how the Kami Band summons the girls into this world with their solo intros (the girls rising out of the ground in beginning of Doki Doki Morning m/v, and Su-metal rising out of ground after Kami Band intro in Rondo Of Nightmare (Budokan Black Night))

Right on! Haha. I absolutely love this performance. You are 100% right, this is the 1st song of their 1st album, and typically an intro song to their shows. This particular performance is the show closer, a damn epic one for Su-metal's 16th birthday concert. Also, I love the lore behind this particular concert as well, here's a few nuggets to help appreciate this further: 1). Desu (silent "u") = "I am / We are", so they are literally saying, "We are Babymetal", "I am Su-metal", etc. the whole song. They just stick their tongue out and make it sound like death, for a cute but metal way to introduce themselves. 2). This was before Babymetal's 2014 explosion into the international stage, and they were just getting big in Japan. Hence, they couldn't always afford a live band. They had dudes in skeleton costumes pretend-playing while live vocals sang over a track for 1st 9 songs, then a 5-song encore came on with Kami Band, with this song as the closer. 3). The story behind the concert: The FOX GOD summons Babymetal to battle the Big Bad Idol industry, which is oppressive to Metal. Babymetal infiltrates them as J-Pop idols, in order to fuse it with Metal (Babymetal's whole concept). This concert starts off very poppy, even with a completely lip-synced EDM version of Headbanger, then progresses towards the heavy, more metal sound towards the end of the concert, until the Kami Band joins them on stage for the 5-song encore. This closer shows how Su-metal sacrifices herself (mortal and Idol), to be reborn as a Metal Goddess. This concert was end of 2013 (Dec), so it sets the lore up nicely for 2014. 4). Kami Band basically becomes Babymetal's "official" live band from this point on, and pretty much the same guys play for them, even to this day. Great reaction, look forward to more!! 🤘🦊🤘🦊 Also: O - H ...

So an old cranky Metal Head once watched Babymetal and said he is not a Fan....why.....just because. Then he sees this.....and.................wait....what???????!!!!!!!!??????? LoL!! Dude, this entire concert was INSANE the way it was put together! It was like a Broadway Production! It literally told the Tale of Babymetal by starting out, just like they did, with a very PoPPY vibe & all Cutsy...but slowly becoming heavier and Heavier....until they hit the Last 3 Songs.(some call it - 'unoffic[ally'- the Trilogy of Death)..starting with Headbanger (where Su collapses at the end), Akatsuki Unfinished (where Suzuka Laments a loss..perhaps here own Life) and then Babymetal Death (where Suzuka, the Idol Princess, gives up her Mortal Life so she can be reborn at the Budokan shows as the Metal Goddess Su-metal!!) You now get why we all say, they are the BEST Live Group on the Planet Today!! Put your Kitsune UP!! Po!

Suzuka Nakamoto twice covered songs on her birthday that were popular in the year she was born. One at this show. Yui and Moa did it once each at Legend of 1999. It doesn't take stones to do this in Japan. Christianity isn't a thing there. Death sounds like the Japanese word Desu. The U is usually dropped. Desu means I am/we are/it is. Babymetal desu = we are Babymetal. Also the crowd is chanting Death but also We Are.

This song blew my fucking mind the first time I heard it. I went to see them because a friend of mine from Ukraine begged me to go and had tickets, and I was like "whatever, I'll see the meme little girl metal band, it's free" and I walked out with it being the best concert I maybe have ever been to. And I've seen to over 1000 sets and been on INTL tours with acts I actually had the CDs of. They do not disappoint, and I saw them again last week and have been just deep in the Babymetal rabbit hole again. The fucking rule and there's nothing like it. Show me another band, anywhere, from anywhere, that's metal as fuck and can come out and have an entire arena helping them spell out their name and dancing in sync with the singers. Nothing is even close to on the same level, like they open with just going B A B Y M E T AL and then say "we are Babymetal" and 10-50k+ people lose their fucking minds. It's awesome.

Great reaction, thanks! Nothing to see here. Just Su-metal celebrating her 16th birthday with her friends and some of their fans (like 9.000 of them) all chanting "DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! DEATH!". It's pretty normal... I believe. 🤣 Jokes apart (although that was true), yes, this was the final encore of the show and yes, named after Su-metal's year of birth and it also had the sub-tittle: "Su-metal seitan sai" (Su-metal's birthday party). And apart from being exactly that, the whole show had a theme: it was a huge allegory about their transition from a J-pop idol group sub-unit to a legit metal band, And this was the final number representing the sacrifice of Suzuka as an idol and human to reborn as a metal goddess. And that is exactly what she is since then. And by the way, just in case... notacult. 😁 Until next time! 🤘🦊

Yes, _Babymetal Death_ is the first song on their first album and normally used as an intro song. But in this particular case it was indeed the last song of the concert. The version of Headbanger you saw was two songs earlier, and you should probably take a look at the song they played in-between; _Akatsuki (Unfinished version),_ to get the whole experience of what the fans often refer to as the _Trilogy of Death_ (albeit slightly out of order): kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5mpfYKvZp6grqMsi=-g3b9K6TU_fP23i2 But you really need to compare that to the finished version, as it has some amazing instrumentation. Maybe make it a double feature? kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWOWaGV5arV9gq8si=doaLpv9yUTCWWZdS And if you want to try another of their mostly instrumental intro songs, with an even more amazing stage show, check out _In the Name Of._ It really should be the _Legend S: Baptism XX_ performance of the song though, which you won't find here on KZbin. It reminds me of Sepultura and is metal af. I'd give you a link, but KZbin would only delete my comment if I did. Just google it, and you'll easily find it on DailyMotion or something.

The Legend 1997 show took place on December 21st 2013, the day after Su-metal's 16th birthday, so this was her birthday party, complete with crucifixion. The story behind this concert was that Su had recently graduated from Sakura Gakuin (which is for girls aged 10-15) so Babymetal was officially breaking away from their ties to SG (though Yui and Moa would remain in SG until they graduated in 2015) to become an independent act. This performance was the symbolic "death" of Suzuka the J-pop idol, the birth of "Su-metal" the metal goddess, and the transformation of Babymetal from a sub-unit of SG to an independent band. Babymetal Death is the opener for the first album and for the vast majority of Babymetal's live shows, including the current US tour, although they have only done the crucifixion thing a handful of times over the years. On this particular occasion, Babymetal Death was indeed the show closer. The Kami band have always officially existed in the background and have never been officially named or recognised, although the fans know who they are and love them almost as much we love the girls. Koba has said that Babymetal is only the girls, and they are the focus, so that's why the Kami band stays in the background. It's also worth noting that the Kami band don't play on the albums, they are a live performance backing band.

Nice reaction and I’m really pleased your enjoyed it as much as you clearly did. I’ll let the other commenters explain the context of this song but I have watched plenty of KZbinrs react to this song and it only seems to be US reactors be confronted by this performance. Maybe it’s the more puritan culture of you guys over there but most of the rest of the World see it as purely entertainment. Bear in mind that Japan is not a Christian Country so the religious overtones are not as sensitive for them either. Regardless, this is a brilliant performance by the entire crew and as you said, the perfect way to conclude an epic concert. If you have the resources, I urge you to purchase this concert, because you get the Legend 1999 concert as well and to see their development in such a short period is phenomenal. Kitsune Up!!

The title "Babymetal Death" is a pun on "Babymetal desu" which means "we are Babymetal." There is no "th" sound in Japanese, and no way to write it in the traditional script, so they substitute the "s" sound, which you can hear the singers pronounce.
