Some minor correction first, song title is "Babymetal Death" not "Death" alone. This is another song they brought back to live concerts as an opener after 2017 and fans are really glad with this one. Song is heavy but wait until you hear Babymetal Shin Ver. or Sis Anger to decide which one is heavier. Sad you choose this one without the kamishibai or narrated intro, you got the translated intro in the description of this video at GuilhermeCait. If you're a Metallica fan you can spot the beggining riffs of _"One"_ song, as well of the -"virgen mary"- image behind (is not, is SuMetal resembles and Lady Justice Metallica tribute, even statue crumbling down is an homage) they're truly BM sensei and they support the group too. Our girls said this is one of the most physical demanding song, and you can see the reason why, they normally used this song as an opener and a way to warm up for next performances, in this rare exception this was at the end of the show, an epic finale. Btw there's no one relevant credited on the growling you are hearing on any BM song, except on "Distortion" that features growling of Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy band. This was during SuMetal 16th birthday and she was sacrificed as a j-pop idol and reborn as a queen metal goddess, the Fox God has bless all of us. The neckbrace is part of BM lore. Yoshiki (pianist and drummer on X-Japan) suffer serious injuries during a live concert while headbanging so hard (this was way back before BabyMetal was even created), after that he needs to use neckbrace to avoid doing that movement, he still playing and being active recently. They are singing their names as a way to introduce themselves in japanese way but with the pun intended play of words: "SuMetal desu" means "I'm SuMetal" but she is trying to say "SuMetal death", same for the rest of girls with their respective names, and the rest of the song is: "B - A - B -Y - M - E - T - A - L DEATH! DEATH! DEATH! DEATH!" Back then when doing promotional, TV interviews and introducing they did it the same way, you can look for a long vid with all these clips of them saying this kawaii introduction. They were taught to say "th" of "death" word by bitting their tonges at the end to pronounce this the right way, but they added a wink looking like this 😜 You'll see many Japanese fans ended their sentences and comments with "death" to remember this, unlike western fans like me. During an interview KobaMetal (the producer behind BM) said that when he was travelling for concerts abroads around 2015 he came to know a band like Ghosts and he was interested in discover that band doing the same thing they're were doing theatrically and artistically, so anyone thinking those bands are satanic and such they're just saying nonsenses, they're just doing a show in which they're playing a role, and in order to be convincent (like an actor in a movie film) they need to perform their part like they're mean it, and the audience must be part of it and they're an important ingredient because other way it wouldn't work. That's why we said all the time "notacult", unless you actually are or want to feel part of it. ;) Oh and just a note aside for anyone thinking this is disrespectful to western religion and whatnot, is not! KobaMetal explained he needed to make a bridge between fans and them so they can familiarizing with the BM concept with images the fans already knew, in this case he used the Neon Genesis Evangelion series (talking about anime) as a drive vehicule which is heavily influenced by christianity, kabbalah, gnosticism and even islam symbolism, imagery and iconography, the plot on this was never took as a blasphemy for any religion and it was mostly used for aesthetic reasons, same for BabyMetal, it was used to represent the "Death and Rebirth" concept of SuMetal own role persona while having a bridge between fantasy and reality, the reality is she decided to end up her idol career (death) with Sakura Gakuin and commit herself to this new rol (rebirth) as a metal queen for BabyMetal. 'BABYMETAL Death' is the first track on the first album and it was usually played as the opening track (without the crucifixion) for their shows because it is simply them introducing themselves. They have brought it back this year since Momometal became the third member. On this occasion it was the finale. The Japanese word desu (the U is silent) sounds like the English word death - especially if you stick your tongue out slightly - but it means 'I am, you are, we are' etc. So the lyrics of the song are few - the crowd spells out "B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L" and then the girls introduce themselves "Su-metal desu", "Yuimetal desu", "Moametal desu", "BABYMETAL desu" .... or "I am Su-metal", "I am Yuimetal", "I am Moametal", "We are BABYMETAL" and then everybody chants "Death death death death death death" - as you would expect when the lead singer is being crucified. They do love a nice pun or play on words ... and 'death' just sounds so metal how could they resist. They only crucify Su on special occasions - last time they did it with this much drama was for Legend S in 2017 for her 20th birthday ... that one had extra flames.🔥🔥🔥 Legend 1997 was the final stage of their transformation from sub-unit of a JPop Idol group to becoming an independent band in their own right ... more importantly it was all about Suzuka Nakamoto's journey and transformation from a JPop Idol to this performance where she gave up that life and sacrificed her human existence to be reborn as the Metal Goddess Su-metal. No hint of anything resembling a cult here of course.🤫🤘🦊🤘 The statue is inspired by and pays homage to Metallica's Lady Justice statue from their 1989 tour which crumbled in the same way at the end of their shows.

Great double reaction - I guess I'll leave two comments, one for each song. Iine means something like 'so good' - like the thumbs up emoji 👍This was just the second song they released (although they were already playing 'Ijime, Dame, Zettai' live before this). They tore up all the rule books on what genres can go together in one song, wrote their own rules then tore those up as well. They were establishing very early on that they are going to do exactly as they want, so if they think EDM, hip hop, death metal and more EDM can go into one song, that's what they'll do. The chaos (schizophrenia?) was very deliberate (even the lyrics say so). They did warn you about the death metal drop before it happened - "Yo yo yo yo. Microphone check. One two one two. Are you ready to mosh? Kitsune da o!" If you can find it, the live from the 2011 Sakura Gakuin graduation show is so good too. The growling vocals in the death metal part (that has to be the best drop from hip hop to death metal ever, by the way - you should see the crowd shot with 55,000 people at Tokyo Dome all bowing to Su) are telling you they are not holding up the traditional metal devil horns or Maloik, they are showing the Kitsune.🦊

Fun fact: This was Su-Metals Birthday concert. She had just turned 16 the day before. And the whole purpose of that stage play was to represent her ascension to diety level to fight for the Fox God in order to save the Metal Galaxy. There is a ton of lore surrounding the band. Including a graphic novel. " Apocrypha: The Legend Of BABYMETAL". There is also a ton of tidbits in the Death video. Some quick refs. The Neck brace: Tribute to Yoshiki the drummer of X-Japan. Who injured/broke his neck head banging while performing. The statue and the opening riff are tributes to Metallica.: Who opened the girls eyes to the true power/meaning of metal. Which allowed Su to coin the phrase: " Don't think, just feel." Also James and Lars are huge fans of theirs. One last tidbit. After that performance the hashtag # Notacult was born. Iine means "so good" (like a 👍), but it gets frequently mistaken for being called "Line", to the extent that it had become a running joke in the fan community; whenever reactors get around to it, we always have a laugh when they make the usual blunder. It was only their second song ever released and it was the first of what might be called the "wtf?!" songs, since that is apparently the reaction they are going for with some of these tracks. Iine has made it way back into the live set for the first time in six years in recent months. I got to see the first live rendition at Clear Night in April, and it came as a complete shock to the crowd, because absolutely no-one thought they would ever play it live again since it had been effectively retired since Yui's last performance in 2017. I also got to see them perform it live three more times during the Australian tour in June, and it's such a fun high energy song to see live. Babymetal Death is the opening track of the first album, and serves as an introduction for both the band and its members. It contains a play on words of the English word "death" and the Japanese word "desu" (pronounced "dess"). Because Japanese does not have dental fricatives (sounds that use your teeth like "f" or "th"), native Japanese speaker have difficulty pronouncing "death" and it ends up sounding like "dess" when they speak it aloud. In Japanese, the word "desu" is used in a similar context to "is" or "to be"; it is commonly used when someone is introducing themselves, so when Su-metal says "Su-metal desu" (I am Su-metal) she is introducing herself, but at the same time she's also saying "Su-metal death", which is pretty metal. Thus the song is basically Babymetal introducing themselves by spelling out the name of the band, and then introducing themselves individually in the most metal way possible. For most of Babymetal's history, it has been the show opener for the vast majority of concerts, but they pretty much stopped using in from when Yui stopped performing until Momoko officially joined in April this year. Now that they are a trio again, they have started to open their shows with it once again, only now Momometal always gets an especially loud cheer from the fans.

_Kitsune da o!_ 🦊🤘🔥 Binging BM non stop. The good news with Iine! is they brought back this at live concerts after 6 years without performing right after YuiMetal left the group. Iine! is one of their early wild songs with the crazy mix of genres and a reminder for everyone since the very beginning they have no boundaries in terms of genres. Last time they performed this with the original trio was in 2017, we're waiting for the new proshot live version recently at BabyMetal Begins - The Other One 2023 with MomoMetal the new member in it, meanwhile we can enjoy some fancams around the World Tour in Europe, Asia and Australia. Just in case, the brutal growling aren't credited to anyone relevant, is just for fun just like the whole song and it works. The contrast elements of kawaii, Jpop, euro beat Hi-NRG, hip hop when they were even younger and the brutal heavy breakdown is really insane. Nice reaction. They said this was a hard song to perform because they do so much jumping for it. And to think they usually start the concert with this song is crazy. This video is from the end of the show. The whole concert was done as a rock opera. Telling the story of how Babymetal went from Jpop idols to metal. The end there is basically Su but all three of them giving up the short-lived idol life or career. And going into the perform for as long as you want to eternal metal life. All three of them started shows crucified. And even coming out of coffins. When they came back this year in January. At the end of the show three clear coffins come up for them to go into. Lucky it was the end of the show so no worries of getting stuck like in the Spinal Tap movie. Babymetal do like their stage theatrics. and let's face it so do we.

Iine! is one of Babymetal's slice of life songs. The lyrics talk about how good (iine! 👍) it is to go to a party and leave the everyday cares behind for a while. And you get the musical sound track with all the different genres one might hear and even the sound of someone leveling up in a video game. And speaking of leveling up, we had Su-metal leveling up from J-pop Idol to metal goddess. This whole concert, "Legend 1997 - Apocalypse" was their most thematically consistent and relentless. A ton of references and homage tidbits. Including to the *1997* anime feature film Evangelion: Death and Rebirth. Su- even sings (performs?!) a cover of the theme song, Tamashii no Rufuran (Soul's Refrain). Video available on KZbin and well worth watching. Only done for this show and not on any of the albums. That death metal drop is sick! "BABYMETAL Death" is the perfect show opener (as they are actually introducing themselves) but this time they used it as the final number of a very special show. Legend 1997 is, as a whole, an allegory about their transformation from a j-pop idol sub-unit into a legit metal band. And this was the final and necessary sacrifice of Su-metal as an idol and human just to reborn as a metal goddess. Unexpected? The first song retracts to their origins. They began in the Sakura Gakuin idol group that made its members graduate when they actually were graduating from High School. They're OMG WTF video!! They have performed the crucifixion routine about bout 6 times. Not just Su, Yui and Moa plus the Avengers too. As for the first video. I saw short video of a performance on the Sabaton tour and the ladies were really feeling it that night. During the line jump Momo whipped around pulling Su who jumped a couple of feet and with the momentum Moa must have cleared four feet with her knees bent. As for the death one, they say Su-meatal desu, Mometal duse, Yuimetal desu and BABYMETAL desu. Roughly translated desu would be “I am”. Now to make it more metal the crowd says death instead of desu (in most concerts). This is the opening song on their tour this year and I can’t wait to shout BABYMETAL DEATH this September. 🖖❤

Yeah they crucified a 16 year old girl on stage and had 1000s of people bowing to her being led by two 14 year old girls for this concert. Not many 70s metal bands would have done that. I have seen them live years ago, they are one of the best groups for absolute performance live. Kobe metal is the genius who is creating these songs and production. Iine is actually one of my favorite songs from them another good one for me is onedare daisakusen this is one of the black metal songs which is just Yui metal and moa metal, I can speak japanese so the song is amusing because it is basically 2 girls coming up with a strategy to get their father to buy them things, well been there done that since I have daughters.

You also should know that this was Su's 16th birthday. After this, she was too old to be in SG and there was mad speculation that Babymetal was going to break up, or have a new lead, or some other change. This was the final song of her 16th birthday show and they sacrificed her to the Fox God. The show ended after this with no words. So, fans were left to speculate, wildly. Of course, 3 months later, when they kicked off Babymetal World Tour 2014, the crowd went crazy when Su, along with Yui and Moa, rose up out of the stage. They have a habit of crucifying Su and then having her "resurrected" for their next big tour....

ii ne is one of those songs where if its your first song from BM, you don't understand wtf it is, kind of gimmicky, but oddly entertaining in a identity crisis type of way, however, after you got a few songs under your belt, you appreciate it for what it is, a sort of business card mix of them showing off all the styles mish mashed into each other. Its not my favorite...doesn't even hit the top 10 for me, but it is very iconic and a fair representation of BM overall. its a must see to understand the band, but not early...otherwise you'll just think the band is insane. DDM sucks and I never want to go to a concert where thats on the set list, however...this in the middle of the show is just a silly fun time. One of those it shouldn't work songs, but it does and its fun. more of a guilty pleasure tbh..so yeah, I love it, but secretly...shamefully... And Death is just...well, its just their intro song. its fine...nothing overly inspiring but the band is kickin. musically awesome, lyrically...meh...good show material though. love the X Japan callback with the jumping X motion (total tribute move). Total epic start of a show...much like their intro recently of In The Name Of (check it out. got like 3 awesome intros to their concerts with that song...no lyrics, but holy crap what a show starter)

Been loving your Babymetal journey I feel down the foxhole in 2016 and never climbed out. My 1st concert was 1985 and have been to loads since Babymetal is in my top 5 performers I have seen along with Maiden, Dio, Jinjer and Band Maid. Speaking of Japanese metal Babymetal is just the gateway there is a whole lot of greatness in J-Metal. Weirdly to western eyes but many are female or mixed gender bands. My 2 favorites are Nemophila and Hanabie. Though other great ones are out there like Lovebites, Unlucky Morpheus, Ninjen Isu and Maximum the Hormobe. Band Maid is more hard rock but share ALOT of fans with Babymetal. You have to stop watching videos. They're great, but anyone will tell you that the only way to fully appreciate BM is through their live performances.
