Even though I won't be reading most of the books you review, it's still very enjoyable to listen to you talking about them and the insight you give. Also, the thumbnails are always great!

Interesting review, Jason! Sounds like there were v obvious parallels between that and other well known books but like you say good to hear his writing was decent overall and maybe his other projects will land better. Thanks!

Yeah, the parallels were too obvious and frequent, even though I like the sources.

Just finished The Strange. Got the book yesterday and could not stop reading it so lost sleep! I liked everything about except the years mentioned. I did not think it was necessary to place it in 1931 etc. That just seemed confusing. Did not need an alternative history. Anyway I liked the True Grit connection. I thought the ending would be different but it was fine. More of a setup for a sequel, which I’ll read immediately.

Annabelle does mention going after revenge. I kind of liked the twists and turns that I did not expect.

I did see reasons why she was a 13 year old girl. Sometimes they did not want to harm her because she was young. There were times where she tried or did not listen to adults. Doing things a 13 year old would do. I only noticed the way people were speaking in an accented manner, more at the end. Did not notice it before. It was slightly jarring.

I had me a couple of chuckles. Such as the ‘In Dunes!’ Few are as picky as you are. Lol. But I enjoyed this review, you’re getting me intrigued to read it. Martian Chronicles and Southern Reach? I’m in!

@JasonFuhrman I'm writing a book about cat people in the backwoods, I'll let you know when I'm done so you can do a review on it.

@@JasonFuhrman You see that episode from Rick and Morty about The Purge? Well, the cat people are the same thing, but they're hunters instead of Amish people. I came up with the idea after listening to hilarious stories from Jerry Clower with my dad.

@SweetZOFFICIAL1997 I haven't seen it, though it sounds interesting.
