A set of Home Accents Holiday C9 multi-color LED Christmas lights from the The Home Depot. I have 2 strings of similar LED lights from several years ago that I deem satisfactory for outdoor use. Since I am just about out of electricity to allocate for the outside lights, I figured I would try to find a few more of these strings to use until I have the electrical service's capacity increased.
These lights seem comparable to the ones I had, so I bought a set to try. These lights are really worked up by the package, making lofty claims like '2 times brighter' and 'flicker-free'. They're certainly not horrible, but they do somewhat fail to deliver. Despite the claims about being bright, I find them rather dim, even in comparison to other LED strings I've seen. The flickering isn't atrocious and is significantly less than other sets I've seen, but it absolutely still does flicker.
I'm not 100% satisfied with these lights and do not find them acceptable for use indoors, but for outside at a distance I think they will suffice. I will go back and get a few more at the end of the year if they go on a decent sale.

OOO LEEEDDDSSS great. The blues will always be the weak spot with those things, however the tru-tones LEDs are certainly a great improvement.

I know you don’t like LEDs but there is a product I think you should try it’s called Tru Tone. It’s a company that makes LED C7 and C9s that look and work just like Incandescents. I think you will be really satisfied with them. Just look up tru tone Christmas lights.

Yeah, I bought a whole bunch of those & stuck 'em in 1950s twisted-pair light strings. I've been thoroughly impressed w/ them!

If you don’t like the flickering or the blue color on these, you might want to give the GE version a try. We have them outside our house, and they are 100% flicker free at least to my eye. The blue is nice and toned down, and the colors are nice. They feature the traditional red/green/white/blue/orange color combo. The brightness on them is satisfactory for me, but I have no idea on how bright they are compared to incandescent, as I don’t own any incandescent multicolor C9s. Judging by the ones in this video though, they are likely quite a bit dimmer. Interestingly enough, the orange shades use a white LED underneath, so they give that incandescent warm glow. However, all the other shades use that respective color of LED underneath, so red has a red LED, green has a green LED, etc… The only issue is they are pretty expensive compared to other sets, they are $50 per set of 50 on Amazon. They were about $30 per set of 50 when I bought them in 2019, so obviously the price has increased a lot. The price is cheaper at Lowe’s though, at only $20, but they don’t offer them in that ceramic style, only faceted or translucent. Another good option are the Tru-Tone LED C9s. I don’t have any, but I have heard they are very good. No flicker, equivalent to incandescent in color and brightness, and they look just like incandescent. You can’t tell the difference. They are incredibly expensive though, at about $80 for 50 of them, and they don’t even come with the light strings, only the bulbs. They are certainly the best option for replicating the incandescent look, but judging by your comment at the end of the video may be extremely out of budget. wow these are suprisingly cheap at lowes, costing the exact same as hd's incandesent translucents ($14) im an inacndesent purist for the most part, but if they are mostly flicker free ill pick up a set or 2 when i go by lowes for my usual incandesent restock at the end of the season, and see what GE has against crap depot leds

I love those! I think I'm going to have to visit Canadian Tire sometime soon to see if they have something similar under the Noma (their in-store lighting brand) name. They're much nicer than the weird looking faceted C9s that we have on our roof this season

Or I live due to the amount of rain I can’t really use LED less if I get a certain kind of commercial grade LED that is a fully potted LED module the cheap LED ones from Home Depot don’t even last a Christmas before they basically rust away I don’t know exactly why they can’t just make all of them potted since you really don’t need to change an LED light I don’t get it but I still have to use incandescent outdoor so I can use LED inside as long as they are not going to get wet Generally the LED light strings I use her battery operated ones that I’ve converted over to USB so I can run them off of a power bank Cousin Kasian Way, Wally lose power, and I tend to use them as back up lighting.

The set you pointed to outside and called "gloomy" looks to be the one LED set I really like. The colors are very "pure" in a sense; best way I could describe it is if the blue were to be displayed on a screen, it would only use the blue pixels. They're an almost perfect shade of the color without being too bright or having too much white bleeding out. I also like that they only appear as pinpoints of light rather than illuminating the surrounding area. Do you happen to know where you got that string? It's hard to find them because you have no way of knowing what it'll look like without testing.

i cant tell exact models from here but it seems like a "faceted C7" multicolor HD home accents set coincidentally, blue is probably the one color leds dont fail at (other than red, and cool white), i juat absolutely dispise the flicker with basically any led string, so the only leds i use are warm white standard bulbs indoors i use incandesent minis for 85% of everything because i prefer pinpoints too (especially in my dense landscape, too much light), they give off the pinpoint effect (but also tint the greenery with warmth imstead of coldness, which is probably why the leds got called gloomy) when led colors are executed well, all needed is a full bridge rectifier, but as of now only one company seems to have done it right

You should check out the company called Tru-Tone for Christmas lights. They are LED but look like the vintage colored bulbs and give off that warm glow. They sell C7 and C9 in frosted and colored clear bulbs. There are some off brands selling similar bulbs on amazon now too, but Tru-Tone is the original. People have made reviews here on KZbin about the Tru-Tone bulbs also.

leds are great when they are well made and designed/implemented well, an example of them NOT being implemented well is when there isn't a capacitor involved in the circuit with the LED driver. this causes them to flash at 120hz which is twice the frequency coming from the wall because every time that sine wave is in the middle so to speak they aren't producing light. really they only produce light half of the time an incandescent would. That infuriates me most of all because it makes every movement that is under their light look strange because of the strobing. Basically, they look really bad unless something is implemented in the driver to fill in the spaces between the 60 hz ripple of wall current.
@ethernet00
@ethernet00 Жыл бұрын
its 60hz from the wall but once half wave rectification comes in they are infact switching from on and off 120 times per second and thats why i never took my led strings out of stoage again

@@ethernet00 correct that was stated in the comment above. But I didn’t know it was from the rectification.

Don't feel bad about using LED Christmas lights, Jordan! In fact, you should get rid of all your outdated incsndescent lights and replace them with LEDs! LEDs are much more energy-efficient, more durable, and longer lasting than incandescents, which saves money and helps the environment at the same time! Me and my wife Lois bought LED Christmas lights a few years ago, and they light up our tree much better than the old incandescent lights ever did! We love them! So do our neighbors! Me, my family, and my friends all wish you a Merry Christmas this year, Jordan! God bless you!

Are you kidding me? The incandescents are *brand new* and Jordan is not going to get rid of them. They may be inefficient but they look really nice! And Jordan doesn’t mind the extra cost.

more durable? longer lasting? help the enviroment? LOL hell no i buy more incandesents every year, but none hit the bin ever, i just expand my incandesent only display. my incandesent sets go as far as 35 YEARS back, some really cheap 80s/90s 1AMP rated sets that are still on the factory bulbs, going outside in almost daily ice and heavy rain every winter every led set ive gotten, from every big box store, has lasted 4 seasons or less for me, now the only thing the led strands are good for is 3AMP extension cords to run my incans LOL LED in regular edison bulbs is a great solution for indoors, i use led bulbs in all but 3 fixtures of my house, but christmas leds? ABSOLUTE TRASH aluminium mixed with copper or regular steel in "outdoor strands" from every brand, they are all PREDETERMINED TO FAIL!
