When bratty 8-year-old Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin) acts out the night before a family trip to Paris, his mother (Catherine O'Hara) makes him sleep in the attic. After the McCallisters mistakenly leave for the airport without Kevin, he awakens to an empty house and assumes his wish to have no family has come true. But his excitement sours when he realizes that two con men (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) plan to rob the McCallister residence, and that he alone must protect the family home.

I was born in 1983, so I was 7 when this came out. When the trailer came on tv, I begged my mom to let me see this. So when it premiered on November 16, my family and I went to see it and I have to say best movie ever! The story is diamond, the characters are all amazing, and the music is also wonderful.

BearsForLife F Home Alone got a Limited release November 16th. It didn’t get a full wide release until Black Friday November 30th. It wasn’t even playing in enough theaters, which is why it had long lines and fast ticket sales. I should know, I turn 8 that December and fondly remember waiting outside for 40 minutes with my family to get in.

Patrick Lawson I lived in Dallas at the time and it premiered on November 16 at the Angelika Film Center there. I don’t remember how the line was, but I just remembered how great the movie was and still is to this day. I also watched the Sequel at the theaters when it came out in 1992.

Moviegoers love watching this film to see Kevin handle anything and everything thrown at him. His natural talent and ability to be vulnerable yet still be in command of himself is refreshing. The true meaning of the Christmas spirit is to be like Kevin, the ability to have fun in spite of being all alone. I loved watching this classic in the theater with my family. Standing ovation. 👏✨

The boy who played Kevin's cousin Fuller is Macaulay Culkin's brother Kieran. Macaulay Culkin drew the map that his character uses to set up the traps. Macaulay Culkin's stunt double was a very short 30-year-old man. Director Chris Columbus' biggest fear as a kid was burglars. It's part of why he wanted to make this movie At the end of the movie where it snows outside Kevin's house, the snow was actually mashed potato flakes. Little Nero's Pizza is a parody of Little Caesar's Pizza. Caesar and Nero are famous names in Roman history. The ornaments on which Marv steps were actually candy.

This movie is a MANDATORY option on Christmas in Poland. There's no christmas without this movie. There's one TV station (POLSAT) that always plays it on a christmas day. One year they decided not to play it, and there was a HUGE petition campaign to bring Kevin back. And they DID, so the christmas was saved :-)

Really wanted to see this in the movie theater when I was 5 and my brother was 7, but our parents said 'no' because it was Rated PG and was reported to be "too violent" for younger children. Even our babysitter wouldn't take us to see it, in spite of the fact that the majority of the violence is VERY cartoonish and no different than something you'd see in a Looney Tunes short. Unsurprisingly, my brother and I were absolutely heartbroken. As a result, we had to wait until it was available on videocassette, but even then, our mom wouldn't let us watch it right away because it was "too violent". It wasn't until a short while later when she said that it was okay. It became one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. One year later, our dad took us to see "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York" in the movie theater and we loved every moment of it. In fact, we loved it even more than the original. Both are true Christmas classics and have become traditional for me to watch every holiday season!

As a child of the 90s this movie is more than a movie. It’s part of my childhood and part of my life.
