The good news is Life360 is an official integration now in HA. Also, OwnTracks is great for GPS location. It also has an official integration. I use Life360 and NMAP together to give a more stable detection. I want to look into Bluetooth Low Energy beacons now as maybe getting room level presence :)

@@leestechprep presence detection and room presence seems to be the most discussed issue in the Home Assistant world. If you ever do set it up, I'd love to see a walkthrough 🙂. I am trying to setup Room-assistant right now but the documentation is a bit lacking unfortunately

I found this video helpful, even though the Home Assistant user interface and other details have evolved since it was made. Thank you for making a simple, focused video that illustrates fundamental concepts, like tracking a device, and using its presence or absence as a trigger for an automation. Even as the user experience changes, that basic lesson still applies. The one thing that I think was missing was an explanation of how you connect a device (detected via pinging an IP address) with a person (you). I believe it's the "lee: " item in the hosts: list. But where does "lee" come from. (Other than your name, of course!) Is "lee" a Person already defined elsewhere in Home Assistant? Where? Thanks again for giving a clear, focused lesson!

You do not need to fully reboot your Pi to restart Home Assistant to fully restart Home Assistant Go to Configuration > General > Server management > Restart

Great Video, This will be useful for people who do not need the exact location of the device. Life360 just got added as an official Integration into HA. Also did you mention that you need to set a static dhcp lease or the device your trying to track because that is very important. I would also recommend that you use OBS to record your screen at 1080p because your screen is bit difficult to read. Otherwise great video I also use pfSense

There are certainly differences in the UI and other details, but the overall concepts still hold. As someone very new to Home Assistant, I found it valuable.
